Early Morning Photos
We were busy even when there was no one walking in the isles! With thanks to Kym (Southern Battle Gamers Club), Matt and Richard (Goulburn Wargames Club and Napoloeonic Kriegspielers), Michell (WSGS) and his partner Jacqueline, David, plus all our partners and children's patience. We could not have done today without their hard work, patience and tolerance. Note nearly every picture has different kids playing. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by Tyberius: Apr 6 2007, 10:07 PM -------------------- The chickens have come home to roost,

Which WAUers are pictured there man? Did you get much interest from the general public who had never seen/heard of the games before? WAUers rct75001 Blue Will and i think Mitchell is steelman Day two also had Bails assisting The General public were very interested overall. This is our 5th or 6th year at the Easter Show. We are considered a popular attraction and invited back each year and we get larger each year. The first few years we were part of the Matisse Derivan display and the last 3 years we have had our own display area (thanks to Matisse and the Organiser of the Arts and Crafts pavilion.) Parents are looking for hobbies that can bring together all of the following: Encourage reading (sci fi/ Fantasy/ history) Problem solving Encourage tactical, stragetic thinking Involve basic maths encourages attention to detail promotes patience involves and promotes your imagination is artistic and creative promotes good hand eye coordination (painting fine detail) May involve wood work for terrain building May involve electronics for working lights, score boards in miniature terrain features. Promotes interaction with others (anything id better than a computer screen) A lote depends on how you promote the hobby to the general public and give them examples of miniature games they are already aware of like chess. In all the years we have been there we have only had one miniatures stolen (last year) and the parent made the child return it and apologise. All the kids have always said please and thank you. -------------------- The chickens have come home to roost,

I dropped past friday morning to say hi and check out your set up there but you were already run off your feet in playing demo games and painting demonstrations which was impressive considering the low attendance at that time.
Bravo for your efforts in promoting the hobby in general |

Ok to answer the question about still playing with toy soldiers.
My Mum said to my Aunties when I was a teenager: That I was either at home painting, reading or playing games as complicated as chess or at the library or having a game at the local club/ friend's home. As a parent she knew where I was, the type of people I was mixing with, I had a hobby so I was busy and it made me read. Could my aunties say the same for their kids. My Girl friend who later became my wife said to her friends when they made some comments about toy soldiers: She always knows where I was, either painting or gaming (and normally at home). She preferred this to: Having car parts through the home or racing cars through the streets, Going to the pub 5 nights a week after work and not coming home until late, Or going to the club each weekend and meeting other girls. I had an enjoyable time, and very tiring, I have thought about a recording for next year as you explain the simple horse and musket rules to them by the end I was getting mixed up myself, Richard and I introduced about 60 kids and a few adults to the joys of historical gaming. It was amazing to see four yr olds able to read and some 10 yr olds who could not. Some people were amazed that we made the building and a couple eeven thought they could hire us for parties, I said sure one women than asked for a booking, she didn't blink when I said $3000 grand plus GST, so there probaly is a market out there especially in the well heeled areas. I didn't win a game all weekend, richard won one (the kid nearly cried, scared him for life!)
