G'day Guys,

It has been a while since I have seriously painted anything, due to a bit of burnout after painting a number of 40k Orks and Space Wolves and just staring at my overly large collection of currently unpainted miniatures was equally daunting. That said, I recently moved and managed to cull some of the hobby stuff that I was to bring with me, in fact I pretty much halved the collection that I have available to me (rest is now in storage). So i have been feeling a bit better about it all.

So with that out the way onto the contents of this diary.

I have had an interest in expanding into Warmachine for quite some time, and a while ago I ended up buying some Gun mages due to their fluff. As I read more and perused through the rule and faction book I decided to see if I could do a solely Gun mage list and came up with this Tier 4 pCaine list:

Lt. Alistair Caine
- Defender

Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Unit
- UA
- Hunter
Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Unit
- UA
- Hunter
Black 13th Gun Mage Strike Team

Gun Mage Captain Adept
Gun Mage Captain Adept

It will probably struggle against things that have high ARM and DEF, but I will have good fun with it, plus it's fluffy as all hell and to me just a great theme.

So that said, I will be documenting my painting progress as I go through the army, and hopefully my gaming experiences as I learn the ropes. I'm in inner west sydney now, so hopefully I will be able to make it to Burwood or Sydney Good games for some practice sessions that see me getting romped.

Current painting progress is below, I will update colours as my progress happens:(Completed, In Progress, Not Started)

pCaine
Defender

ATGM 1
UA
Hunter
ATGM 2
UA
Hunter
Black 13th

GMCA
GMCA

I will try to get some pictures up of my 'Jacks when I can work out how to get a good and well lit shot on my phone (galaxy s2, so quality is good at least), lighting is just proving to be a problem currently.

Cheers,

Ty.

Good list, I usually run a Charger instead of the two GMCA at that points level. It's brutally efficient.

I have considered it, although i have heard caine is rather focus greedy, so didn't know if a focus dependent jack like a charger would be a good choice.

I do have one from the battlebox so will probably muck around with it at some point see what i can do with it.

Yeah depends on what your playing really.
You will struggle to crack heavy armour, it's where the list falls down.

Yeah I unfortunately have noted that already, though thunderstrike does become useful to try and keep them away or use them as tools for knockdowns and then assassinations, although scenario play will make it harder.

I guess I will learn as I play.

Anyway managed some photos, probably not the best of quality due to the poor lightning, so I tried some brightness adjustment to make them a bit more tolerable, will try for better ones as I go.

And some older photos of the defender without basing and complete hunter, that is in better lighting:

G'day guys,

Made some more progress with painting and finished up the man himself, Lt. Caine.

Again I will have to apologise for the dodgy camera phone photos, but it is the best that I can currently do, hopefully it suffices for now. So here we go photos!

Caine:

Caine + Jacks (you can see the weathering a bit better):

Will be starting on the Gun mages potentially tomorrow, hopefully I will be able to get access to my airbrush so I can knock out all the blue rather quickly. But we shall see, probably won't happen knowing my luck.

Any C & C as always is welcome. Also if anyone feels like lining up a demo game (i'm in the inner west of sydney) to show me the ropes sometime, that would be awesome.

Cheers,

Ty.

Put a flat sheet of paper behind them, white or a light blue, will produce better photos.

I will have to i think, should improve the lighting a bit, however I am pretty sure my house actually has no plain white or blue paper in it...

I normally do mine up against the wall. Normally either white tiles or cream paint. I also use a sheet of cardboard to sit them on.

It's also worth using two (or more) light sources. When I take mine there's the ceiling lighting plus a bedside lamp (for gentle light) and my desk lamp (much brighter than the bedside one).

EDIT: you can find my examples here: My Generic Diary which also includes my Cygnar stuff smile.gif

Thanks for the advice, not to sound rude though, I currently just don't have the gear that i require for good photos. So that said I am doing my very best to at least show images for people to look at in the meantime.

I wasn't criticising, just offering some helpful advice. smile.gif

All I've got is a simply camera and a very cheap tripod (it's about 10cm in height) to take away any hand shake. I sometimes wish I had a bigger tripod to do those shots from above for things like my Battletech collection. Had to use a phone book to get a little extra height for that one wink.gif

Keep up the good work!

Got a quick update, as I have managed to slot some painting in in between things, unfortunately my honours research is getting a little hectic with assessments etc so painting has hit the back burner a bit but I will persevere.

Anyway been working on my solos the Gun Mage captain Adepts. But I have hit a bit of a crossroads as I am not quite sure what scheme to do them in, so for now I have started on two (its namely the cloak colour that I am looking at) and thought I would get the WAUtrust opinion.

Option 1: Brown Cloak, same style as pCaine
IPB Image

IPB Image

Option 2: Royal Blue, typical Cygnar style.
IPB Image

Personally I am kind of leaning towards replicating the Caine paintjob on my gun mages, as it gives them a slightly dirty more realistic look. Plus, its not really done that much, or seems rarer.

Thoughts?

Since you can field both of them I'd be tempted to go with the two colour schemes. You could do your ECaine in the second scheme later on and if you decide to do another unit of Gun Mages you can do them with the second one too.

Will make them easy to identify which unit if they get intermingled in a game.

BTW: Good to see the white background smile.gif

Well I will be running two units of Gun Mages, however I managed to get a squad of each of the sculpt styles so can differentiate that way.

Might finish both and see what I think, its easy enough to repaint the cloak.

Also white background is good, just took a photo against my whiteish wall. Do however still need to get a desk lamp, then I should be good.

It's been a little bit of time, but unfortunately I had to put together a progress seminar for my research, so that kind of took over my painting time. However, seeing as its the weekend following I decided to do nothing and managed to knock out my two gun mage adepts.

Without further ado:

IPB Image

IPB Image

They are painted similarly to Caine in the brown trencher coat with blue armour, I really like the style, it goes well with the dirtier worn look that I have on the jacks. Plus feels a little more gunslinger.

I have also made a start on the black 13th, they are so tiny, its ridiculous, probably about time for a resculpt for them.

That's about it for now, just my two units of Gun mages and the black 13th to go and then I am all done, then will have to try to get some games together.

C & C as always is welcome.

Ty.

They were sculpted during a time when PP was worried about climbing metal prices, woefully small compared to a lot of the other models.

Mmm, that does make sense, I just figured their popularity in Cygnar armies would have lead to a resculpt by now, especially with the redux of the Gun mages.

I guess they are happy with them as is, no need for a resculpt.
Pretty sure the GMU one would have been due to mold wear, might as well make a new one.
