GW should be convincing shareholders and stakeholders that tournaments are important but they don't even believe it themselves. It represents a greater risk because they are in a pretty unique position and have less certainty on these things. I think you'll find the answer is less complicated than that. Shareholders won't even know what tournaments are let alone that they could be run. All the information they get is at a strategic level. Costs vs revenue vs profit. There will be some vox pop lite stuff to flesh out detail to give them the impression they know what their shares are doing, but nothing deep. GW don't run tournaments because they have no way of judging the return to the company. Why would you spend money in a business when you have no way of measuring how much it will bring back? R |

The more I learn about marketing the more I realise that supporting tournaments isn't an efficient media spend.

Yup.
It's almost like all of the people here who insisted that it was good marketing were self interested or something. -------------------- "shirty, the slightly aggressive bear"

Why do we even need tournaments with big prize support. Since was a lack of prize support a deterrent to anyone interesting. Since when did you want to go to a tournament with uninteresting people.

I do. I hope all my competition puts themselves to sleep and I get to win all the prizes.

It is free. You just need to email them with enough notice. Our last tournament, Battle in the Vines, 5-6 May 2012, was not in WD until the April Edition even though I gave them masses of notice. When I asked why we didnt get the three months coverage that we had had previously I was told that they are now relying on the GW website to advertise tournaments. -------------------- Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet. That sucks. Looks like it is a bit of a lottery.
I think I had about three months of WD for Theatre of War. I had two people contact me as a result and one of them ended up coming along. Although there weren't many players overall anyway. |
