The other day I had a weird situation arise.

I played a game using the Eldar Aspect host formation, and as the host was made up of howling banshees and shining spears naturally I chose the +1 weapon skill boost.

The banshees had a wave serpent dedicated transport, which also benefits from the +1 WS.

Things got confusing when some gribblies charged my wave serpent.

The tank didn't move, but as it's now weapon skill 1;
1: Do they have to roll to hit?
2: Is the tank now locked in combat even though it cannot fight?
3: If 2 is true, can it fall back due to 'our weapons are useless' because it has no attacks?
4: If it is part of a multi assault and the enemy falls back, can it attempt to sweeping advance and automatically catch the fleeing enemy as vehicles always pass initiative tests?

Bit of a can of worms, we just played it as the serpent wasn't WS1.

Vehicles always have a WS

Usually 1, unless they are immobilised in which case they are 0.

Vehicles that simply don't move; still are WS1

The Aspect host will instead make them WS2

They have no attacks; so it's only useful for defence (so Tau will hit the vehicles on a 4+ rather than on 3's)

Vehicles are Fearless so never Fall Back, and unless they are Walkers then they can't be locked in combat; so the Skimmer may just move away.

I thought they got rid of WS for vehicles and just said you always hit on a 3+? Not that it will matter soon tongue.gif

Not quite, the exact rule is

Accordingly, all vehicles are treated as being Weapon Skill 1. The exceptions are walkers and Chariots, which have variety weapon skills, and immobilised non-Walker vehicles, which are treated as having Weapon skill 0.


As others have said, they are not locked in combat, unless they are a walker/chariot. Mind you, this will all be null and void in about 5 weeks time.

find it funny, few vehicles that cause fear but are ws1 in combat. Hit on 3 to 4+ When fail test
