Hi,
Just getting into 40K and have been watching heaps of AAR.
I am a little confused over some rules re: flyers and have seen plenty of contradictory stuff on Youtube.
When Shooting with and at flyers do you measure to and from the base or to and from the model .
The same goes for Charging ... to the base, or to the model .
The datasheets I have list no special abilities for the unit/model.
And by jeez, this 8th ed seems like a ship-load of fun.
Thanks for any help.

I can't find a reference but you measure to the base. It'll be in one of the errata/faq documents somewhere.

Measurement is from base, but you can draw line of sight from anywhere on the model

which certainly does not help keep things clear.

So you can shoot in any directions from the flyer, and draw line of sight from the wings, the nose the tail etc, but you measure actual distance for range from the base.

we have played a few games with flyers and obviously GW are trying to keep 8th ed simple and fast to play, but the rules are a little wacky in places

Seems fine to me. Abstract los to any point on the model so that it emulates a flyer having better los than a ground based unit, measure ranges to and from the base so that they don't fly around untouchable like they used to.
