Well another Quarter Master done and dusted, thanks to Rob and Aaron for running the event.
Congrats to Dave Fleming on 1st place. Glad I could give 4 of my opponents a good leg up, they finished in the top 12. Highlight would have to be taking out Les' (formerly known as Wes from Rocky, aka Wes the lesser) 20-2 in our grudge match, then him going on to finish 5th or 6th. Lowlights include Draigo and 10 tooled up pallies, having my terminators herded off the the board by 3 one wound thunder cav (changing what was shaping up to be a big win in to a big loss) and the fickle dice gods ensuring that my 20 points from game one made up 70% of my battle score (seems beating up on girls is bad karma) This post has been edited by westwood: Feb 19 2012, 07:14 PM -------------------- 1st Company, 1st Chapter, 1st Legion - 1st in the World 'On a scale from Bro to C#*t, how much do you want to come at me?' - Murph. |

Thanks Rob and Aaron for running the great event, and Alpha Hobbies for the prize support.
I had five fun games with mixed results and against five different types of armies, so I'm happy with that. Well done Dave for taking out first prize. Highlight would have to be taking out Les' (formerly known as Wes from Rocky, aka Wes the lesser) 20-2 in our grudge match, then him going on to finish 5th or 6th. I did my bit to help him up the list by having him pound my army 20-1 -------------------- |

Congrats to Dave getting first! I enjoyed playing all my games, against great blokes. Terrain was great.
However sadly this is where the plesantries end. Well I'll start with the big one, comp, what the hell went on here? I got 18 for a sisters list (yes there is 3 exos, but they are hit and miss at the best of times.. Ask breezey), the same score was given to Glenn Blair for his De (which was a soft list IMHO). Seriously it was a joke. Then there was the food and drinks.. 2.50 for a can of drink? Come on bit steep guys. It's a fine balance between travel and value when attending. Also Rob (you will know what this is in regards to) your ment to be a TO not a childish idiot, get over yourself you have single handedly tarnished the image of this great tournament for the CQ boys. -------------------- FORGING THE NARRATIVE:

Thanks for putting up with the hordes again, Rob and Aaron. As much as I dislike noncomp events, I am hoping the next QM is at least as well run.
QUOTE Seriously it was a joke. Have you ever agreed with a comp score given to you? Maybe we should save the organisers a ton of hassle, and just go back to peer comping. Same amount of whining, but at least it's not directed at the guys doing all of the hard work. -------------------- |

Oh man your one of 2 people who actually felt the wrath of the exorcists. Good games tho.. They kicked off against me when I finally came out of cover, 10 terminators went up in smoke in one turn. Unfortunately, it was to late to turn the tide. -------------------- 1st Company, 1st Chapter, 1st Legion - 1st in the World 'On a scale from Bro to C#*t, how much do you want to come at me?' - Murph. |

Thanks Rob and Aaron for a great weekend! It was my first Quarter Master and I quite enjoyed it, certainly gave me some ideas on how to improve my game. Thanks to everyone who I played against, you were all a great bunch of guys.
Personally I thought the food was great, so thanks for putting that on! PS. If anyone wants to instruct me on how to write a no comp list for QM2, your assistance would be greatly appreciated haha -------------------- Regards,

Papa smurf, fester and Montka can help with a poorly designed spam list, not a bad option if you want to lose a few games.

This tournament was well run Round to Round, and i appreciate that as much as my fellow gamer. On the day, the games were run smoothly, and rounds went off without a hitch. I had 5 GREAT games, and just wish there was an option to grant everyone a best game vote.
My comp score was ROUGHLY where it should have been for my list. It reflected previous scores that army lists have received in the past, and all in all it was an acceptable comp score. HOWEVER, i was in the top 2-3 of comp scores...... and i can tell the panel RIGHT NOW, my list was NOT even CLOSE to the top 2-3 "softest" armies that attended. There were quite a few armies that attended the event, that were TBQH much, much softer than my list. Glenn Blair's list comes to mind, among several others. Perhaps this is reflecting Panel inexperience, as i understand the panel that was used in previous QM's did not partake in panel scores this time around. I do not know how experienced on the tabletop anyone on the panel was except Yogo, whom's opinion i have infinate respect for, however, to solve the seemingly constant comp complaints, i have a suggestion that may work (not that it matters for a few months as far as QM is concerned, NO COMP QM2 here i come). Attempting panel anonymity when QUEENSLAND gamers sit on the panel is, quite honestly, pointless. This is a small, relatively close knit community, and we all know what happens. Gamers are not stupid, as all human beings as individuals are not stupid. There was a little talk about a gent on the panel whom has not played for quite a long time. This is a ridiculous decision, whomever decided who was to be on the panel. Unless panel members have a well-rounded, and well rehearsed (plays regularly against ALL armies) knowledge of the different codex's available to build an army, they should not be on the panel. The simple solution for this problem is sent the panel comp marking out of state. If the panel is out of state, no amount of bitching a QUEENSLANDER can do about comp will piss off another QUEENSLANDER, and when the panel scorer's are out of state and people complain about poor/inaccurate comp scores, instead of the TO being a valid target for this hatred due to being a panel member, the TO can wash his hands of the composition scores as a factor, both because the TO had nothing to do with the scores, it is also safe to assume that the vast majority of army lists will not be known by Out of State panel markers as someone's personal list, making it impossible to cut someone off at the knees because of the general behind the list, not the list itself. IF the out of state panel causes problems, instead of TO's viewing it as a personal attack (as i often am sure Rob and Aaron feel like it is) the TO's are not to blame. Then the TO's can take CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM and either change the out of state panel members completely if people are super unhappy, OR, request that the panel take into considerations for future events whatever was mentioned as reasons for scores being whatever they happened to be. Also something TO's need to keep in mind, and again, this is not aimed at anyone, i am about to start hosting large tournaments up here, that one or two voices shouting loudly about something small is NOT a problem, noone will be able to please everyone all the time, however, many much quieter voice's complaining to eachother about the SAME DAMN THING probably indicates that there was a problem, and take it under advisement, to move the tournament event in future in a positive direction, and help grow the community. I have more to to type about, but a cold rum sits outside my door as we speak, and its calling my name............ See you all at QM2 and thank you Rob and Aaron for a smooth weekend TL:DR - Thanks for the lawn dart - U know who u are -------------------- This has not been updated for some time.... |
