Southern Shrike Bowl 2012 Options

Southern Shrike Bowl is coming up fast on the horizon. Last year saw a record 41 coaches playing, almost double the previous best attendance. This year we are aiming to improve on that, with them aim of breaking the 50 barrier in the next few years. Here are the key details you need to know:

Southern Shrike Bowl 2012
Date: 18th and 19th August 2012
Location: Klemzig Community Hall, 7 OG Road. Windsor Gardens SA - Bigger and better venue!
Cost: $40 if paid before 18th July, $45 otherwise, Under 18's $20 (no further discounts apply)
$10 additional discount if you "Bring a Friend' (see below)
No of Games: 6
Rules: Resurrection Tournament, CRP rules, 1.15m to spend on players and inducements (min 11 including Star Players), number of skill set options to choose from, maximum 1 Star Player per team (2 Star Players for Stunty teams)
Teams Allowed: All CRP teams, plus Chaos Pact, Slaan and Underworld.

The "Bring a Friend" discount is exactly the same as last year. Simply bring a friend along who has not attended before and both you and your friend get a $10 discount on your ticket price. This discount is available to everyone, regardless of whether or not you have attended SSB before.

A few changes have been made to the tournament, based on player feedback. The changes to note are:

• Opponent's score is now the first tiebreaker used to determine placings
• +ST and +AG can only be taken by 0-16 poitionals
• Round times have been reduced from 2hrs 30mins to 2hrs 15mins
• All games not in the second half in the final hour of each round will be put on enforced 4 minute turns
• Any players not completing their game within the 2hrs 15mins allowed will lose a re-roll for their following game, followed by a point deduction if it happens a second time

After a successful debut last year, individual round challenges will feature again at SSB 2012. Based on feedback received they have been made a bit more difficult to complete this year. Each round will feature 3 challenges to be completed. The first player to successfully complete each one wins a prize. Challenges could include:

• Break armour and casualty a player on unmodified double 6's
• Scatter or fumble the ball into the crowd
• Catch a ball in 2+ tackle zones
• Succeed at 2 consecutive 5+ Dodges

On top of the individual round challenges, there will be a "Whack a Wardancer" competition to give those people facing off against Wood Elves or teams fielding Cirwin, the 2011 SSB MVP, something to focus on.

For those interested in the team aspect, the SA Steelballs Cup for the best SA league will again be up for grabs, as will the Southern Shrike Cup for the best team.

I can say that the prize pool is once again looking fantastic with a number of different prizes on offer this year compared to last year.
