So I had a BFO and thought why the hell don't I use the Favela layout from CoDWMII. For those who don't know a favela is a south american type of slum.

I dont need to use the CoD one, it was just the basis of the idea. This is the kinda thing i wanna build up.

lol best of luck with it!

Truthly i was considering taking inspiration from Rust for my next terrain table.

I think the first step would be to draw out the design you want on the board and work from one corner to the next.

Again Good luck and have fun!

lots of foam core, textured card (cardboard or plastic) and ALOT of time.

looks like a sweet board idea, would be great for infinity and awesome for a small non vehicle 40k game.

obviously its not going to be as involved as the actually favelas, I need room to actually move stuff tongue.gif.

I am more or less thinking about the density from CoD. a couple of openish spaces, lots of windows, ladders, 2 or 3 multi level buildings and some roof top terrain like arials, water tubs, some catwalks etc.

Now I just need to go through my terrain box and work out what I already have and then where to get foamcore...

I think alot of Balsa is also in order with corrugated cardboard.

EDIT:

I'm also thinking of making it modular (maybe six 2'x2' boards).

how about you make each building from the favela map as a starting point, and then put in the burnt out cars, roads, playground etc later?

Would be an awesome Infinity or Necromunda board also.
Brings to mind the TAG-fight from District 9 (against a serious military, Wikus would've been toast earlier).

Could be a good starting point.

As a note, to not directly use a favela type environment i'll be making it to fit in with my armies... So it will eventually be snow covered to some extent.

Some corkboard roads and paths will also be in order.

If you want to cover it with snow without making the whole thing look weird, think about how the buildings would be constructed in a cold climate. The favela reference pictures you've used are all from warm climates, so the style of construction would be different: a flat roof catches more snow, and is more likely to collapse (especially when built with scavenged materials).

Hmm good point.

I may not do that then. I want to be able to stand minis on top of it. So no snow then...
