Trip, I find it hard to believe that you are also without a LA Invite?? Just what do you have to do to get to go to that tournament? Or who do you have to B@()W?

I never said that LA was a "best of the best" Tournament. It is just a tournament which I would like to attend as they seem to have picked out all the good people of WH40K and invited them along. Seems like a great concept with exceptional backing.

Guess I will have to sit on the sidelines and wait.

I had a graet time. Only being new to 40K and not winning a single game I was well and truely supriesed with 12th. By far the most memorable moment for me was when Scott 2 Speed Freaks surrounded the objective with myself only having a unit of scorpions below half strength (4 left) on the objective, it was a close one!

Yeah Hoju, I still reckon Scott (Gortag) didn't try hard enough to secure the objectrive, I mean his Leman Russ was 12" away, is that bad planning or what? Claiming obnjectives with 49 buggies... shesh! wink.gif

Congrats Trip on a well deserved win.

Me? I had a whale of a time. It was a real pleasure to start the day vs Johnno(? unless he was my round 2 opponent), a player I'd never met before... and the real kicker was he brought nearly the same army as me - completely mechanised marines! What was impressive was he outdid me on numbers of vehicles, including a Land Raider, which is a neat trick!

At least I found out my own army was beatable, I hope Johnno picked up as much as I did from that game (ie, with mech SM, try not to swamp both flanks, it is unlikely to suicceed smile.gif )

With that handy tactical tip, I proceeded to concentrate my army as much as possible for eaxch subsequebnt game, and manouvere would more often be on one flank instead of two.

I was greatly encouraged by the performance vs Imperial Guard... I was fearing trouble but in both games I managed to suyrprise myself. Have to say, Meltaguns and Flamers are awesome...

Oh, and Incendiary Castellans from the whirlwind are awesome... In round 2 I used them against the very cool Gaunt's Ghosts army, and with 4+ cover all over + Camelione cloaks, well, lets just say the incendiaries put paid to those advantages, plus it didnt help that I was rolling 3+ like it was 2+ (Thus not really missing the extra S) and it was nasty for opponent when my Whirlwind shots failed to scatter at least 3 times... And the flamers hurt a lot as well.

Round 3 I faced Asmodean's Suits, in possiblyt the worst possible scenario, since escalation saw my entire army off the table(something I should get used to). I wouldn't have minded except half my force stayed home on turn 2 while it seemed the majority of Asmodean's suits came out and deep struck into prime possies... One day Ill beat these accursed Tau of Asmodean's but not today! It didn't help that deployed like a Prig... Even though it was take and hold I clearly would have done better to try a flank manouvere, isolating his 3 fire warrior squads might havew helped my cause a little...

Andf I finished off the day vs Ophion's Imperial Guard. We played the rather nteresting HQ witheld mission, which was interesting although I did see Lonestar's table and felt for him as it was clear before a dice was rolled in anger that he wouldn't ever activate his HQ.

Perhaps the way to address it would be a simple warning that one's HQ will nered to be recovered from somewhere in enemie's half of the board it could have fdorewarned someone in that position so they might do sopmething different.

Happily at our table, even though I'd done similar to Scott, with most of my force in the "wrong" flank, I did have one vehicle nearby(forward deployed for push back and all), plus the Land speeder was only 2 turbo boosts away... Although I was extremely nervous when I first moved the predator - a 12" move out of a ruin with no dozer blade but I rolled 2 d6 with no "1" so was now a turn away from activating my HQ (Just as well, since it represented nearly 20% of my army)

One thing I definitely learned with my army is I simple MUST have Dozer blades on the Preds - I move them through difficult ground a lot, and was exteremely lucky to only immobilise one all tourny...

One thing I have really enjoyed with new DA is they really are able to do most things quite well. I think ppl discount grenades a bittoo lightly - it is clear to me your obvoious aim is to have a tank stunned or immobilised before the guys charge with their grenades/meltabombs... Auto hit is not to be sneezes at and a Krak Grenade on rear armour of a Leman Russ is plenty enough to do the job. A meltabomg in this situation is almost cruel and even a Powerfist is awesome!

The Meltaguns are very handy and give your squad an excellent chance of stunning/immobilising your target tank for the Grenades to do their task. Of course, should you happen to destroy the vehicle, that's also okay! I think Ophion was well sick of meltaguns and meltabombs/ kraks by the end of that game as all but one of his tanks was destroyed this way.

Of coursae, The whirlwind performed well again, this time with Vengeance missiles (less tewrrain) I was able to deal with anasty concentration of guard with all those heavy weapons in his centre and having 3 shots hit squarely made this task all the easier...

With whirlwinds it's not just the damage they do, it's the multiple -1 pinning tests they cause, followed by morale checks if pinning is passed.

SO at the end of the day I had 3 wins, although my army had only won twice. It was cool to only face one Meq, and that was my own army!

Lessons learned:
Concentrate my force
Only split into Combat squads if you have a real plan for them, and generally 10 man squads are better than 2 x 5s... Main exception was the Lascannon squad who were more useful when split. Next time I'll swap that plasmagun for a meltagun 'cause meltagun's are better for an army that moves forward! smile.gif

Thanks for an awesome Saturday gents, I hope to see you all on Sat 23rd of June for Cryx Cup iii.

I reckon the Sons delivered what they said they would. The natrrative stuff was cool, new missions are always cool, and cthe spirit was to have a good time. The only issue I had was the last mission was a bit cruel to finish a tourny on... but no biggy.

My 2c (Rounded up to 5c)...

But I still have my usual "Best terrain" prize! Woohoo!

I'm working on it with my time off... Odds are I still won't beat your masterfull scenery(Or volume of masterful scenery... hehe), but there will be no loss for cities if tourny ever needs... Being the Ciaphas Cain fan I am, I'm basing my city around the ork occupied dessert city in the "Death or Glory"Novel

And as every one else said... Props on your Eye Popping GK. I went to start painting this morning and got depressed thinking of yours... tongue.gif

I quite liked all the missions, thought the last one was quite cool, though I think we should have been told what was going to happen before we deployed so we could plan a little more for it.

Glad all liked the fluff... Sorry if my ever sore throat and lungs did not carry so well on the day...

Mission 4,,,,Like all great plans, be they on the field of battle or testing a mission that will be 100% balanced every time...we found a situation that we did not encounter previously. All appologies to the 3-4 with larger HQ's that were adversley effected, and one in particular. No hard feelings hopefully.
Negatives and partial inexperiene aside... I/We'd love any specific feedback on the missions themselves.

Round 1, And introducing our northern Son Johnno, fresh back to Sydney after a 8 Month adventure in QLD.
Everyone made him more than welcome and he had a ball... Esp that 1st mission, I know he enjoyed the switch with you Alex...

That said well done Hoju being new to it all... Great Showing... armata_PDT_37.gif

One way of ameliorating the last mission would be to allow any retinue models to shoot, but not move (ie they stay put protecting the commander). The commander mini remains out of play until activated by another squad, or you could have him activate using a reserve roll.

yeah i wouldnt have been keen to have the chaos lord with terminator retinue open up on me in turn 2

i kind of liked it in my game because we had the interest of my opponent in the end throwing 3 units at his HQ trying to recover it, in the end he got there but not before his bloodletters were charged by my harlequins who were then over the subsequent 2 turns charged by units of chaos marines before the harlequins were wiped out and the chaos lord activated

i get the impression this was the intent of the TOs and i think in my game it worked well - except my hq, which played no part in the game and i only activated cause i had a unit there that i didnt want to throw into the melee.

was an interesting idea anyway

Never mind Mono, those "burns" have been cleared away, the dreadnought, has had another highlight to bring him inline with the rest of his force, I am thinking of wearing sunnies while playing to protect my eyes..... as for my oponents, they have been warned
