I thought I'd post some pics of the start of my Deathwing army. I haven't played 40k (or any warhammer for that matter) for a while now, so I'm reading up on the new (to me anyway) 5th edition rules in the hope of entering a few tournaments in the new year. I built this army back when 5th edition came out but never really got around to doing anything more. Until now anyway smile.gif

So there isn't really anything too non-standard in this army except for the colour scheme. I've never really liked the standard Deathwing colours, probably because I can't paint bone colours too well but anyway. I used to play Tau which were based on a Camo green colour scheme, so I thought I'd try Dark Angels green for my Deathwing. Just to note I will only update this when I finish painting a model, that way I'm not pressed to update every two days, but at the same time it should still keep me motivated enough to get everything finished. Also I'm aiming for 1500 points (which is what I have). A basic outline is below.

Belial - Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield (see below)

Venerable Dreadnought - Drop Pod/Assault Cannon/CCW
Dreadnought - Lascannon/CCW

Deathwing Terminator Squad - 1x Assault Cannon/1x Chainfist
Deathwing Terminator Squad - 1x Assault Cannon/1x Chainfist
Deathwing Terminator Squad - 1x Assault Cannon/1x Chainfist/Company Banner

Land Raider - Lascannons/Heavy Bolter

1495 Points all up.

Being new to 5th edition if there is anything that isn't really working well in this list any tips for improvement would be great.

Again as I built this army a while back I used the above weapon combo on Belial, but I've more recently read that other weapon combos are better for him. So not sure what I'll do about that, we'll see how it goes, it was mainly cause I thought it looked good at the time smile.gif Anyway below is my first test mini (Belial) to see how everything would work out.

I'm currently working on the Land Raider as a change from painting small stuff, so that should be up next (might be a while though).

Thanks for looking smile.gif
Matt

Just a note on your list, Thunder hammer and shield is the worst option for belial (being a 4++ in combat only, as opposed to a 3++ all the time).

Also your missing the Apothecary.

Nice paint work though.

also, you have the shoulder pads on the wrong sides, but thats no biggy.

Ok looks like he won't be my Belial then! Is it best to stick with the sword of silence/storm bolter? And this may be a dumb question but when you wrote 3++ where did that save come from? I'll have a look at an apothecary too then.

As I mentioned above the colours where just because I can't really paint bone an I prefer the look of the green instead, not really a fan of standard deathwing colours.

I did notice the shoulder pads but it was after building this termy, the rest of the army has them on the correct way.

3++ is what Space marine storm sheilds grant. (++ being short for invulnerable)...

Also that model isnt done up, there isnt anything flashy on him. He would make a good sergeant but Belial needs some bling and either a different helmet or a bare head. To make him stand out.

Either the claws or SB/SoS are better options with most people preferring the Claws.

Ok thanks for the comments, I hadn't noted the change in Storm Shield rules.

Lightning claws do look more preferable after a quick flick through the DA codex. I'll have a look around for a better model for Belial too. At least I got to have a practice run on this termy, so he still served an alright purpose.. rolleyes.gif

Well the Metal Terminator Captain model does well for him with his bolter and sword.

Wow it has been a long time, but with the new 40K 6th Ed. having just come out my interest for this game has perked again! Hopefully this time I'll finish what I started.

Been doing a bit of painting on what I'm hoping will be a Tau + Deathwing allies 1500pt army. Got some pics below. Not sure what I was up to with that old colour scheme a few years back... And yes my deathwing are green, live with it smile.gif

Thanks for the comments guys! Bit of a boring update but currently working on my 24 Fire Warriors. So far have under coated (chaos black spray) and am doing the initial green layer of Dark Angels green (yep still got old school paints!). I'll post some piccies soon even though they won't be too exciting, but it keeps the motivation there!

Ok here's a few pics of a completed stealth suit. Sorry bout the bad lighting. Any thoughts? I feel like it needs something more...?

IPB Image

IPB Image

For my list I'm thinking

XV8 Battlesuit Commander

Belial

5x Termies

1x Dread

12x Fire warriors

12x Fire warriors

Then not sure probably fill out with:

3-6x Stealth suits

Hammerhead or two

Just really rough as I'm concentrating on painting atm smile.gif

Haha thanks. Yeah I know, I haven't worked out a back story as to how two alien species who want nothing more than to kill each other managed to come up with the same paint scheme for their armour!...who knows, will be fun making up the back story though!

Couple of pics of the first Fire Warrior squad in progress....better pics of the final paint scheme in daylight this time.

Nice work!

What colour are you using to highlight the DA green?

Thanks! smile.gif

The highlights are done with snot green/DA green mix, then pure snot green, pretty simple really and turns out nice!
