Hey guys

We, the Arc40k TO's, have decided to make ourselves available for a free and open chat about armies.

Arc40k, and before it Arcanacon, has always held to a philosophy of providing a place where a bunch of gamers can get together to shoot the breeze, show off their mandollies, and play friendly games of 40k with the epic turned up to 11. Our hope has always been that the players that come to Arc have that same philosophy at heart. We know that times, editions and codexes change, and that every tournament has changed with them to appeal to new gamers and changing attitudes. Arc40k however, has always tried to stay true to this core value, along with or in spite of, a changing environment.

With this in mind, we thought it was super important that we’re really clear about the sorts of armies we think constitute an “Arc style army”. To some extent we’ve tried to communicate this through our choices in the player pack. The introduction of the “Arc-forged” army is an attempt to bring some order to the chaos that is army selection in 7th edition. Emphasising panel comp shows that we as TO’s are serious about the values we hold dear have an impact on the sorts of armies that WIN Arc. But importantly, we’ve realised we need to do more to communicate what sort of armies we’d LIKE TO SEE at Arc40k.

This thread is intended as a place where people can ask questions about their armies, and whether or not they’re gonna get a thumbs up or a middle-finger-up from our point of view. Please don’t just post entire lists willy-nilly, but feel free to ask about specific combos (e.g. 2+ rerollables) or sweeping army concepts (armies with 150+models, or maybe walls of AV12). Don’t be surprised if we ask about your army’s theme, as we think it’s a central part of what makes an awesome Arc40k army. We won’t be providing scores here, and all armies will only be judged after the submission date.

Our only requests in this thread are that firstly, people try to stay on topic and constructive. If you’re being unhelpful, aggressive or unreasonably negative, we’ll just delete your posts and move on. Please try not to comment on others' posts, as it makes the whole conversation hard to keep track of. If you feel particularly strongly about something that you read here, feel free to PM Fuggorf or Ven Dread about it.Secondly, we’d really appreciate it if people posting here sign their posts with their real names. You know who we are, and we can’t hope to hide behind online anonymity. We’d just love to know we’re all on the same page, and that you’re willing, like us, to put your name to your views. If you really find this uncomfortable, we’d appreciate a quick PM telling us who you are, but we won’t share that information publicly.

Thanks in advance,
Ben Zagami and Dan Attrill
Arc40k TO’s

Curious how you folk will respond to summoning lists, or armies that have the ability to summon?

Certainly not wanting to spam them, just think 1 or 2 units that can summon

Looking at running a fully mechanised space wolf force, mostly dreadnoughts, razorbacks, maybe a predator. how would that go down in the eyes of the TO?

@PsychoUltramarine
A Kan Mob is an awesome theme for Arc! As far as feedback goes don't forget Arc isnt ALL about the POWER in a list, its about well rounded themey lists. Things to think about...
- No Orks in an Ork Mob?
- Im not sure how the Dakka Jets fit in en masse? Maybe one for air support being called down by a Mek adds variety.
- Vary up the Kans in the list... 6 with all the same kit is a little cookie cutter.

@ds
Its not end of the world crazy... Things to think about
- Alone or together, these are great options... add too many more tanks and the list will probably be pushing it.
- What kind of theme do you have for your force?

Best thing to think about is how would your opponent enjoy playing your list?

Make every unit you put in your list count... both in theme and on the table. 'Concession' units are too easy to spot... smile.gif

Original
3x Squads of Legion of the Damned
Guard company command squad
Platoon comand squad
2x Squads of Guard
Valkyrie
Bastion grrrr

Using death korp as a foot force with the legion deep striking
Now probably similar as above, but rough riders to replace the bastion. Oh that means guard need to be primary instead of the legion, that doesnt work as ill need a extra troops or use vets.

But something generally themed with foot slogging guard and plenty of legion. Id say legion of the damned are perfect for arc, not often seen, points expensive but still a solid damage unit with plenty of funk.

Alternatively what about a legion of the damned imperil knight as only model on table and then it starts raining LotD everywhere?

Thinking about upping my Sisters of Arrakis with "real"wings on Arrakis they used ornithopters all the time and so I have put together a flying sisters list

Celestine (new fig for the army)
3 sisters squads With simulacrums ( new)
2 penitent engines (thumpers) (new)

Supported by Sisters (Bene Gesserit) acolytes/novices
(All female conversions)
IG HQ command squad (new)
IG Veteran. Squad (troops) (new)
iG Vendetta x3 squadron (kit bashed) (new) based on Huey Hogs

Not Arc-forged I know but what do you think?

Interested in your thoughts about Imperial Knights as an added detachment. Do they attract a big comp hammer regardless or does it depend on the army they are allied with? Thinking specifically about SoB/Knight Errant.

I was looking to run a walking MC army for my Tyranids. The theme being its the Swarmlord and his personal bodyguard of MCs, designed to bash through heavy defences and withstand heavy amounts of fire. The fluff behind the army is that my Hive Fleet is relatively small and can't afford to expend biomass on small creatures, and is forced to concentrate on larger creatures, but less of them to try and consume worlds.

Essentially the army would consist of: Swarmlord, 3x Tyrant Guard, Exocrine, Haruspex, 2x Carnifexes, 5x Ripper Bases, 9x Genestealers with a Broodlord.

Can I take a bastion and centurians?

@mrtickles

My thoughts on this sorta list comes in two parts:

1. From an opponent's POV, it doesn't look like there's anything that a bolter or lasgun can point at in that list. It makes for an uninteresting game IMO when most of my mans sit there and cheer on the 3 anti-tank weapons, hoping for some juicy infantry to spill out of one of your transports.

2. What happened to Space Wolves "fighting with two feet on the ground as Russ intended." If your vehicles were transports for Blood Claws, I could understand, as they're generally less set into their ways.

With the lack of air defence at ARC this year, flyers and flying MC will rule so I can understand people want to field multiple, I mean you can get flak missile on SM and other army but expensive and far less reliable than a quad gun or Icarius twin lascannon!

Was thinking about running roughly 120 boyz with nobz and a few rokkits in there

Led by a trio of HQs
Maybe some lootas for those pesky fliers

Is the horde list going to be frowned at?

Gday guys

Im looking at fielding a Deathwing army of Terminators themed around either a historical large scale deployment of the Deathwing or based on the Deathwing short story "The tale of Two-Heads Talking".

Essentially its a pure terminator army with maybe a dread or terminator librarian in there, all the squads with a mix of heavy weaponry

Cheers guys

Leigh
