Archmage Life Magic 225
Level 4 35
Silver wand 10
Loremaster's Cloak 40
Foliriath's robe 45

Essentially means he has 5 spells, can only be hit by magical attacks and has 2+ ward save vs spells
At Empire my Archmage tended to get sniped a lot with character killing spells and thought this might work better than a straight up ward

I'm just new to the game so not sure how far you can push smart selection before it becomes cheesy/hurts your comp score

Well the only issue is that anything to wants to hurt the mage will most likely be a stabby character with a giant magical stick, to which you have no protection

but yeah if you can avoid that, this combo will make him untouchable

Played him, killed him, good choice, not OTT for some others will struggle vs this. Elves though are in need of good magic IMO.
If you haven't read this thread it has some ideas.

Magic weapons are not that uncommon now so this guy is still very killable. A Chaos Exalted Champion would take him out for example without effort.

And then also a miscast can blow them up easily enough despite your expenditure.

I'd rather run a staff of solidity and a generic ward save like Guardian of the Phoenix.

Go shadow.. probably with the choose spells item and go.

THEN, use the spell attribute to switch him for another character if he gets in a dodgy position.. smile.gif

Shadow's a more fun (and less used) deck to boot!!

You're really flogging that site aren't you Nasher? lol..

I say if he hits combat, he's probably dead, so go hard.. then go home.

In my experience the robes are usually enough, you just have to be smart about know where to place him when to run him out of a unit once combat is close and to keep an eye on enemy wizards and just plain avoid Skaven weapons teams and shooting.

Personally i thinkt he Annulian crystal is arguably the best arcane choice available to HE at the moment.

@Aevin I normally run that on a level 1 mage but I totally agree. Although in the new list I'm concocting I'm thinking of leaving it and swordmasters out (I know blasphemy!) Instead going to take a block of 20 Phoenix Guard with Caradryan (4+ ward and 2+ ward vs spells) and block of 20 White Lions and put the Wizard in there (also 2+ ward against spells, with life potential 4+/5+ regen with earthblood.)

Long story short, won't need as many dispel dice as all the direct damage spells that allow you a save will be pretty much ignored by my most important units, therefore can save my dice for the other spells ie. dwellers and hex's etc

@Mouseketeer definitely considering shadow. Will test it out in a few games, but a block of 30 strength 8 spearmen does sound like a lot of fun for me

Damn straight I am, unfortunatly it's actually a very good thread for HE and beginners in general. biggrin.gif

I found that they lore of life was not particularly useful for the HE player at EiF. I would wait and dispel throne, or let through buffs on units and then charge, shoot, magic some other unit. The shadow magic has a number of buffs and hexs which if one at the right time really cane units in combat etc.

You could get away with a 2nd level with the silver wand on shadows(combat), and another 2nd level lore of fire for a more versitile (ranged) magic phase. ??
