Hey there,

I'm not new to Geelong, nor am i new to gaming (though i am a bit of a newb i guess tongue.gif) but i am new to gaming outside of my house! So i was just after some info about the Geelong Gamers Guild! I now you guts meet up mondays, but is that every monday? What time do you all start getting there? Pretty important also, where is it?

Also, what sort of games does everyone play? Im more a wargamer and play 40k, would love to learn to play WHFB (i have a few fledgling armies) and Malifaux (i have a few crews). Im also a big Blood Bowl player, so Id love to join a league (or maybe even start one) if there are people interested!

Look forward to hearing from you! biggrin.gif

Meet ever Monday night at the Geelong Guides Hall, 33 Myers Street, 6.30 till late.

Usually some 40K games, some role playing and others from time to time - bit of Warmachine and Necromunda happening in recent times.

Fantasy you would need to organise in advance as while some have armies they generally don't bring them without a pre arranged game.

Happy to give you a 40K games on Monday, just let me know the points you want to play.

Cheers

Ross

Thanks Ross! I think i will more than likely come down on Monday and give it a look (maybe not play this week). I also forgot to mention in my original post, are there many Lord of the Rings players? (Or any?)
Thanks!

No Lord of the Rings sad.gif

There are some Fantasy players but they don't play at Guild.

I have Malifaux. Gez and a couple of others have crews too. I will bring my crew Monday if you want to have a scrap, depending on work! Though I'm very new to Malifaux.

I have 40k but not played in a weeks!

Ok so i didnt make it Monday and probably wont be able to make it this monday, but hopefully i will the monday after that!
Id love to learn a bit more Malifaux, i still havent gotten the rules downpat so yeah. What crews do most people have? And are most armies painted? I should eventually paint mine up, as i plan on maybe going in some tournaments that you guys run. Do you run many? I saw the Geelong Heresy one, but are there many others apart from that?

Hey VDV,

There are other tourneys apart from Geelong Heresy (I am one of the GH TOs), although they run sporadically (wholly dependent on availability/willingness of TO, and community interest). The other regular tourney in Geelong is Rumble in the Bronx, which is a WHFB tournament (and does really well!).

Malifaux has become a recent inspiration for a number of members of my own gaming group, not to mention others scattered around Geelong. I'm in the process of getting my models painted to organize some demo games in conjunction with Moo's Sunday gaming sessions at Mind Games, although at this stage most of us are playing unpainted. As for factions- I know of a number of forces from each faction being represented just within my group, so there is plenty of scope for variation in games. As for tournaments for Malifaux, well that's just a matter of time...

I personally don't make it to the GGG very often due to work etc. (we usually meet on weekends). If you do organize a game at GGG make sure to send me a PM and I will try to make it down to introduce wink.gif

Oh and 40K is still alive and well, there are plenty of us willing to get a game going. Certainly introduce yourself to Ross (RAR), and the other gamers who can make it to the GGG...

We certainly do!

We like to get a good showing of local gamers at our event to help bolster the local gaming community. If you enjoy a social game and are partial to a few beverages then you should definitely come along. Tourneys are also a great goal to help get your army painted- perhaps start an army diary on WAU to get some advice and drive to finish.

After all, GH is only a 1200 point event...

When you do have time to get down to the GGG, just go to the nearest person in the place and ask to speak to someone in wargaming. Ross, Moo or Nathan should be able to help you.

There is a new executive comittee and they have some pretty awesome ideas being thrown around.

40k tournaments making a come back to Geelong, including Australia Day Rampage and June Crusade. We did a 40k Blanket Bash in July last year, not sure if it's happening this year but 2012 will hopefully see old favourites coming back. There are at least 2 games of 40k being played in Guild the last few evenings. Bring your army down and tee up a game. 2, 3 or even 4 ways are fun. Ross ran a campaign last year and it went really well. We might be able to convince him to run another soon wink.gif

Warmachine is happening too (I have seen Khador and Cryx? being played so far), Malifaux is being played but not every evening. Some crews I have seen being played in Geelong includes Leveticus, Seamus, Vickies, Lucius, Colette and a couple others i can't remember. I play Von Schill.

There is an ongoing campaign of Necromunda at the moment. It has been going on for a 2-3 months. I had to drop out due to work.

Guild is planning on setting up a painting corner as well. Members pay 2 bucks, non-Members 5 bucks. Guild will be providing the paints. Just rock up with your models and brushes. Good opportunity to just sit next to the heater and get to know fellow gamers and exchange painting ideas. Not sure on the ETA however.
