K - so after prepping 3 tacs, Sicarius and Termies, I hear the standard battle company list sucks balls. Do I stick to my guns and 2nd company it up, or do I do something funky instead - like a Loganwingesque 1st company.
White helmets all the way. Termies and power armour, with dread / speeder / LRC support...

I know - you'll tell me to take Grey Hunters. Pfft.

Here's some options:
- Logan Grimnir as the 1st Company captain (Pups) and 50 odd Wolf Company
- Ultramarine strike force tuned to Chaos... by the temptations of a second CCW...
- Vanilla dex, but with a good list instead (Tigurius / Drop Pods?)

Hey after the crap you hung on my for wanting to do Dark Angels as Vanilla I'm not letting you go Space Wolves with Ultramarines tongue.gif

Going Chaos is a downgrade off Vanilla.

So, Vanilla but a good list will be the way to go. But the Tigirius/Drop Pod hasn't been good for ages (as in, not since last codex).

The best Vanilla build is Vulkan (with multimelta/flamer marines in rhinos)

The second best involves lots of Bikes.

So with both those counted out you can do a third-stringer list, which will probably be a SAFH style list with lots of Thunderfire cannons.

Are they painted as Ultramarines, or are they "generic" space marines.

Space Wolves are the best goer - basically 40K on ez-mode tongue.gif

Otherwise Vulkan with melta-flamer spam is your best vanilla bet.

Yeah - basecoated and washed blue so far. No trim.

But ONLY because Relictors grey is so damn boring.....

CURRENTLY looking at:
Sicarius
Command squad - 4 x Storm Shield / Plama gun
3 x Tac (one las / plas with Tank Huners) with Fists all round
5 Scouts, snipers, camo, HB, + Tellion
= 1200
Ven Dread, asscan / xtra Armour
Thunderfire Cannon
=1500
5 Termies, Cyclone
5 Sternguard, Fist
Librarian, Epistollery
=2000

Also wanted to run them with only true Ultra characters if any - no Vulkans and Pedros, but maybe I'm fluffnefing.


As for all you "Casper doesn't play Orks" naysayers - a 10 year losing streak with Orks on foot says a lot.
Codex: Armageddon taught me to win at 40K (literally) because speed is awesome.
But my Ravenwing are gone, my Saim Hann in pieces....


Maybe it's time for the Snakebites instead?

You only need a few storm shields. How often do you take more then 2 ignore armour shots that won't wipe out the unit anyway, the whole point is wound stacking, so you want 2ish individually armed storm shield guys (I suggest plasma gun, melta gun) and then 2 other guys with plasma guns. Also these should be in a tank or a drop pod so they don't just die really hard.

This load out will trick you into thinking these guys are supposed to do damage, when in fact they are supposed to not die.
It should really just be 5 man, camo, conservative infiltration/outflanking playstyle.
I'm thinking I will make my next scout squad with shotguns just so that every time I look at them I KNOW they aren't supposed to do anything but score.

Not a bad choice but he needs a really specific role. Usually don't bother with the level upgrade, it never really needs it... His role here can be to teleport either a 10ish man sternguard or the command squad around (depending on matchup) to shoot people really hard.
