I believe the FW Squiggoth kit is somewhat older than the Mamuk kit, and the lord of the rings movies.

could be wrong.

Definitely NOT a conversion.

The concept of squiggoths has been around longer than the Peter Jackson movies as well.

no votes From me.

Squiggoth came out in 2002-3? IIRC.

The idea of it was in drawings long before Peter Jackson did LOTR movies.

maybe the body they used as a starter and just added things to it, but I would highly doubt they use the lord of the rings miniatures to make other models.

Squiggoths have been around for much longer the Jackson films. They were in epic (then simply 'Space Marine' and 'Titan Legions') in the 90s.

Lotr licencing was pretty specific about blending the two franchises. I doubt gw legal would take the risk regarding intellectual property breaches. Wasn't that the main reason Lotr is a different scale?

The FW big squiggoth model wasn't, isn't, never has been based, copied, modified or converted from a LOTR hephalump. Not Even a little bit.

This was my first impression.

However, the pose is quite static and could benefit from some motion, which would emphasise the brute aggression this model should possess.

The models are not derived from each other anymore than the chaos mamoth.

However the concept of the squiggoth could have been inspired by the tolkeing books which date back to the 1930s and they could have been inspired by tales of ancient warfare where Elephants were used as warbeasts accross asia for several thousand years.
