So was having a discussion on FB and the SoS came up as the suggested crew for the Blackships. I always thought the crew of those were mindwiped servitors and a few chosen inquisition members and the odd pariah.

Are the Sisters of Silence actually a thing in 40k post Heresy? Something that came to me is that the Sisters of Battle are a diluted form of the Sisters of Silence as they have a static anti-psychic nature that has been around for a while as part of their fluff / rules.

They dissapear following the heresy.

They find a small group of them in the 32nd millenium during the war of the beast, but the dissapear again.

Leaving you just enough wriggle room to fit your ideas into the setting, who knows maybe your specific SoB covenant started off as a group of sisters of silence but was diluted due to lack of recruitment.

I suspect they're still floating around somewhere, there's just nothing official about it. Maybe we'll get a bit more info once the Beast Arises series wraps up.

Though it's 40k, everything still 'exists' and can always be justify by warp trickery or whatever.

I have no doubt that like the Battle of Calth models, we'll get a 40k version of rules for the models in the Prospero box as well in the not too distant future. With the Fluff ret-conned to account for why they'd be around in 40k.

I.e. The 13th Black Crusade is going down, one or more traitor primarchs are witnessed amongst the invading Chaos forces, and the potential threat to the imperium is such that orders are given for the Custodes to mobilise and leave Terra for the first time in 10000 years.

And no doubt the Sisters of Silence will turn up from somewhere as well. Considering GW confirmed they are releasing a plastic Daemon Magnus kit in the near future, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Sisters of silence are deployed to counter Magnus.

I don't think they exist in 40K which is unfortunate.

Yeah, apart from the rules for them, there doesn't appear to be any fluff supporting their continued existence at this point.

The most I have heard is people saying "oh they are on the black ships" but I haven't even had actual confirmation of that.

generally people say that after the HH they just "disappeared" so yeah, its a little odd they just pop back with no fluff or explanation

Whatever the justification for reappearing at this point in the storyline, I love them smile.gif I've just built three units for my witch-burning Guard/Inquisition army, as they do a much better job of filling the gap previously taken by SoB.

The army now consists of an Ordo Hereticus inquisitor + flamer-heavy Guard + Sisters of Silence. It's nice to have some more specific anti-psyker stuff to add to that army.

QUOTE
The eventual fate of the Sisters of Silence is unknown. By M32, only a single force of fifty Sisters on the world of Nadiries were discovered, and these stated that the Imperium had discarded them out of mistrust following the Heresy. Despite being fiercely loyal to the Emperor and Primarchs, this last bastion of the Sisterhood expressed disdain for the modern Imperium, stating they would rather see it burn than be of aid. Nonetheless, Lord Commander of the Imperium Koorland was able to convince them to help in against the Orks during the War of the Beast.[7]

7: Watchers in Death (Novel) Chapter 9

QUOTE
Nadiries was a world of the Imperium. Located close to the intergalactic void on the absolute fringes of the galaxy, after the Horus Heresy, the planet became home to the last surviving bastion of the Sisters of Silence. For 1,500 years, this last forgotten fortress of the Silent Sisterhood stood guard while eventually becoming disdainful of what the current Imperium had become. In M32 during the War of the Beast, Nadiries was sought out by both Lord Commander of the Imperium Koorland and his Deathwatch as well as by the Orks, who feared the Sisterhood. The Deathwatch was eventually able to lift the Ork siege of Nadiries, save the Sisters there, and recruit them as allies.[1]

The beast arises series is set 1500 years after the Heresy. Black Ship descriptions note that astrotelepaths and navigators on Black Ships have to be kept away from the holds because Psychically-sensitive crew spend most of their time in the shielded upper decks of the main bridge, as far removed from the containment holds as possible so as to avoid the unpleasant effects of the anti-psychic security measures in place.

I guess that 'security measures' could include pariahs.

GW retros fluff all of the time storm ravens etc, centurion suits etc, grav guns etc.

It'd be interesting if they tied the SoS in with the Culexus Temple somehow.
