Because of my new work interstate, I can't physically tabletop game much these days, and I'm not inclined to on my precious time off anyway. Hence this question. I'm keen to return to solo gaming board game-style and am looking for games with proven track record that can be played solo.

I've already acquired Eldritch Horror and enjoy it immensely. I'm looking at Memoir 44 next and hope to purchase a box set plus the explansions today if I can. I'm already aware of Fleet and have already ordered it. But looking for other suggestions of tried and tested games.

FYI: Using the boardgeek ranking for previous year for quick reference. Don't have much internet time these days (too tired). Cheers.

POST EDIT: Just now. biggrin.gif
Nevermind. Picking up both Memoir 44 and Fleet today. Cheers. armata_PDT_34.gif

How are you playing Memoir 44 solo?

Pretty simple really. Only played two games but dispensed with the cards dealt and simply use the alternate draw method. Keeps me from favouring either side. Just played St Eglise and Pegasus Bridge using this simple method and it made for a very quick Allied victory both times. I know there are similar other methods out there.

FURTHER EDIT:
Tried the dealing the cards out on the next two beach scenarios - Juno and Point du Hoc, as recommended by the scenario. While it offers more tactical options for the player the AI remains restricted to drawing the top card blind. Will go back to my original approach.

Another option is boardgame apps for Android or iPhone, an increasing number of publishers are making app versions of their games and most have a solo/vs Ai mode

I have carcasone, Galaxy Trucker, Battlelore, Small World and some others, all work great

Has anybody played Hoplomachus, the galdiatoiral game by Chip Theory games? Heard it's well suited to solo play with plenty of add-ons.

Zombicide Black Plague is a great game and can be played solo, one player controls six heroes. I assume the other Zombicides could do this too? Don't know them.
Pandemic, or other co-op games with no Controller player.
Cheers,
Steve

Runebound by Fantasy Flight
by the side of the box it's 2 to 4 players, but it's like playing a solo next to another player playing a solo, with the only "interaction" being if one can beat the other to the playoff at the end. IIRC there is an internal clocking mechanism in the game, maybe optional rules, to stop players wandering around for a long time to power up before the end-game.

Lord of the Rings LCG.

You can prepare 2 decks (play 2 hands) and encounter deck (quest) at home and all you need is how to transport 3 decks of cards. There are few counters you might want to take with you as well.

It is a very tough game but feels very rewarding when you complete a quest.

Was looking at that recently. Need a bit of a challenge. Memoir 44 is too simplistic for my tastes. Cheers.

I've watched a few videos of Memoir 44 played soo and t looks darn hard for the Allies to match the defence of the Axis.

Not seen those videos; only going by what I've experienced playing M44 thus far.

Tried several ways to pull the C&C cards fairly without looking at my opponent (always German) - both randomly and dealt cards until it was their turn.

I've played six scenarios thus far and each time the Germans were beat. Must be my bias (it's quite possible despite my best attempts to play it impartially). The closest the Germans came to winning was in the French Maquis scenario (Scenario 6) where the Germans had two elite tank units. But at the eleventh hour, the Maquis managed to knock out one of the elite tank units to clinch a very close game.

Whenever the Allies used tanks, I always had them race for the objectives anyway.

It is a very challenging game IMO, not much luck based apart from card draw. There is an online database where you can spend hours building decks and there is even a Simulator to play on your PC..

First quest of the core box is a breeze.. 2nd quest ramps up really quick. 3rd quest I've never been able to beat it apart from using a deck that I copied from online site smile.gif

Worth a try if you can get someone to give you a demo.

Sentinels of tye multiverse app is good fun, i woukdnt reccommend the physical game for solo as controlling 6 decks of cards and other accounting is too much, let the app do the work for you smile.gif

Think I'll get this and all the expansions. Like quest-type games. Cheers.
