Well i got the Slipstream supplement for the Savage Worlds game and have had a lot of trouble trying to find the core rulebook.

I have heard that it is combination of a roleplay and miniatures game, maybe a bit like d&d 4th

Has anyone else played it and is it worth my effort to chase it up?

Ive played it. Its pretty rules light. You can use a battlemap during the combat but not needed.

btw the main rulebook is dirt cheap. like $15?. Milsims used to have - maybe still do?

We were using Savage Worlds for a 1000AD campaign but switching to another system thats more accomodating of what we want.

We play it and its really solid. Its no more rules light then many minis games but much more rules light then most RPG's. Its a great middle ground and works well. the rules work well together the combat really plays quite a bit like a minis game with sort of plot protection for the PC's. I really recomend it and often talk it up on rpg.net

The core rules are good and simple. Some of the settings have unbalanced stuff, you have to either be playing in the right spirit, or whoever's running the game needs to keep an eye on things.

You don't need minis but depending on setting it can make it a lot easier (AoEs, auras, etc).

If you're looking for something straightforward and entertaining with decent depth in character creation and enough options to make combat interesting, savage worlds aint bad.
