Hi all,
After being a long time fantasy player and losing interest since AOS(mainly due to fluff)
I've decided to finally make the jump to 40k. I've always loved tyranids look and because I'm on
a short trip in London and the prices are amazing I've bought some nids.
I bought the get started box, hormagaunts(love the look mainly), box of zoan/venothrobes and a
Tyrannofex.
My main questions are firstly
I live 5 mins from Marion, SA where is a good place for some pick up games (I've never joined a club)
What is a standard game size (850-1000?)
And how should I assemble my purchases. The tyrant I assume with wings is a must but the
Zonathrope box should I go 3 or a split with venothrobes.
I also really like the look for carmfiexs. Would they be a good next add?
Cheers in advance

Hi mate welcome to the 41st century.

I love nids too and have much success within our local group with them. They are very versatile and you can create some interesting builds with them.

As for what you have I'd recommend the following:

Tyrant: Yes wings. Add devourers for good measure.

Zoans: Try two and one venomthrope. Both are useful. Have a play around with some proxies before you commit to glue to find out how they play for you.

Carni next: You betcha! They are good fun.

Enjoy!

-Tervigon. Free scoring units are great.
-Lots of termigants.
-Mawlocs are fun. and useful for getting at the hiding enemy backfields units.
-Exocrine and Zoaps give you access to AP1-3 shooting. to help get rid of the things thatare harder for small-medium bugsto kill in h2h.
-Hive guard give you good transport killing (that doesn't need LOS) to kill transports so your h2h can eat.....
-Biovores and mucolid spore mines give you good cheap damage them anywhere capabilities. (they can be used to support your army anywhere your are vulnerable and need a bit extra on the table.). Mucolids also give you a second option for anti flyer if your flyrant(s) are overmatched.

If you're in Marion your best bets would be GW Warradale or Southern Wargamers in Hove

We actually have a 40k tournament at Southern Wargamers tomorrow if you wanted to meet some people

Thanks for the replies. When do southern wargamers meet normally (I'm away until Tuesday)?

There's also a club in Blackwood. Harlequin Halls, I think they're still going.

I use to have a nid army a few years back. For the big guys buy some magnets. Allows for changes in build and or when new books/options come out to swap things around. Do not (i know from experience) do it at the gaunt level or you will want to kill yourself.
