Is there a date for terrain day yet?

Will the club ladder be reset for the the new year or will it be continued from this year?

I have an idea for our rankings for interclub tournaments (regarding the mis-matches last time). I think we should all rank each other in order of skill (from our perspectives) then compile all the votes and make a list that way.
For example, if three people voted Wayne 1, Nigel 2 and myself 3, that would be the skill order (this of course, going of the August '08 ladder).

The current system we use is largely scaled towards favouring people who are regular attendees. i.e. if you play a lot of games (regardlesss of win or loss) then you are high on the ladder. which dosent reflect skill levels and and it dosent factor in if someone is realy good but they only played 1-2 games for example.

peer based "skill" rankings are purely subjective and also depends on how well you know each person. i.e. if you dont know them very well you cant give them an accurate score.

Another option is use the official Tournament ranking website which Mark C runs - however since not everyone has played in tournaments that wont be the best way to determine skill levels either.

I suggested a win / loss percentage recently. e.g. if you win all your games you are 100%, if you only win around half your games you are around 50%, you get the idea.

And the other option entirely is to do away with a club ladder altogether - which does put more focus back on social fun games rather than cutthroat win at all costs.

Although on the other hand a ladder is useful for matching players at interclub matches etc.

Anyway just some thoughts, happy to discuss further.

the subjectiveness of it means that it is averaged out through the entire club and it is merely an idea for individual things such as the interclubs. I like the current ladder but it doesn't make it fair on people who are are regular attendees but lose a lot of their games (like me biggrin.gif)

I just noticed this - are you intending to still run the club on the 22nd Feb?

It might be better to move the club meeting to the week before / after.

Also, I spoke to the organisers of the COTT tournament and they were saying there is a discount if we have a "club entry" i.e. 5+ players.

And perhaps it can also act as our informal "cherrybrook interclub match" that never happenned last year.

Just an idea.

Also - I should have a loss (*cough* reaming) against Steve, a (roll 4+ to win) win against Mike and a (barely there) draw against Josh in the stats somewhere.

That's not even counting the bucket of points our team's Carnifex Horde should have chalked up on Apoc day. wink.gif

Cya,
Andrew.

Hi Steve,

The rankings are based on the points obtained from Wins (15 points) Draw (10 points) and Loss (5 points). The reason I give points for a loss is that it demonstrates participation. The P ratio is your % of the total points pool. Hence every-one's P ration will decrease in time as the number of palyers increases and the total points pool increases.

It is a more sensitive way than actually publishing poeples wins and losses to determine a relative ranking. In addition the sort is by P ratio then number of games played.

Note if you don't log your results in the club activity book then as I don't have telepathy I cannot incorporate peoples results into the calcs.

Hope this helps. armata_PDT_01.gif

Regards

Whats with the "Games Played" column? I havent missed a club meeting this year, but Im only on 5 instead of 8 (for this July spreadsheet anyway). I take it the Campaign games dont count for this?
