Just dipping my toe into the Heresy, and I have yet to buy any of the books. However, I've got my hands on two squads of basic Thallax and I'm wondering how to paint them. I would like to avoid, if possible, the red/black/metal look that I've seen around.

I was wondering about painting them with Olive drab as the base coat and camo patterns like you'd see on a tank. I figure that the Mechanicus is probably pragmatic enough to recognise the benefits of camouflage patterns.

Has anyone else done something similar, or have any links to blogs or websites with pics?

You know what? I give up, this is like playing chess with pidgeon. I'm going to leave while I still have enough brain cells to make the decision.

Maybe try a digital camo effect like you see in Children of Men, not too hard with some masking tape...

Yep they sure do!!

In one of the books there's some examples. Usually one of the shoulder plates will be painted in the legion colour (so black in Ravenguard's case) and has the legion heraldry on it.

I think it's generally their left shoulder.

P.S. I don't know if you're considering using the new Pravius, Consult type, but you put a Ravenguard Pravius with a Castellax and he gives them Infiltrate and Fleet, which is so insanely good!
