Hello all
I'm quite new to SBG and really want to put together some great competitive armies. My question to you all is, keeping in mind I do like to keep my list clean and themed (as free from allies as possible, except where appropriate) what are most competitive but themed armies in SBG. Cheers D |

The great thing about SBG is that just about every faction is competitive. If theme is important, pick your theme first, something you want to recreate, or just a particular unit/s that look fun to use/paint, and go from there.
Would be happy to help with lists, but I can't decide on a theme for you, definitely down to personal preference. -------------------- War is not about who is right, but who is left.

Is there a successful way to run a hobbit based force? The other list I would like to give a try is Galadhrim.

Hobbits can be one of the most deadly forces in the game! Cheap heroes for hordes, Gandalf, Rangers and Aragorn for some might and powerful support. If you set up correctly, you'll cause a lot of damage with the throw stones special rule. I don't have the Free Peoples book with me, but hobbits can be a scary force to face.
Galadhrim are also very useful. Stormcallers are a particularly strong hero choice, with nature's wrath potentially winning games. Galadriel, Celeborn, Haldir and Rumil are all good heroes. A handful of Galadhrim Guard will put the fear into F5 heroes, as well as being able to shield and support from the third row. -------------------- War is not about who is right, but who is left.

Hobbit Archers are one of the most improved warriors in the game under the new rules due to two stealthy changes few people have noticed.
Their archers remained 4pts (incredbly cheap) and hit with 3+ accuracy (like elves). The changes are that hobbit bows no longer exist, so they get to fire longer ranged human bows (24'), and that they no longer count as unarmed in combat. All hobbits are also resistant to magic and throw stones with 3+ accuracy. Note that the heroes to lead warbands are limited and the warriors are so cheap that you will almost certainly have to ally with another force to make up the numbers at higher point games. I think there are 5 heroes that can lead warbands and several who can't, which means 60 warrior hobbits maximum. 60 hobbits only cost 180 (militia) to 240 (archers and shirrifs) pts -------------------- |

I believe the regular UK GT winner for strategy battle games used hobbits repeatedly, and successfully, for a number of years.

Hobbit where good with just short bows. Now they are stupid good. Yes, the hobbit archers are stupid good, but as an army the balance hasn't changed much. They are now less able to spam an infinite amount of warriors and bowmen due to the fact that the warbands restrict them to 8 warriors + 4 archers per hero. Without a generic Hobbit Captain being available, the army has to take named characters and is kept to a sensible size. -------------------- |
