Um guys, this was just posted on the GW site:
GW Article - MOAB at games day 2011

Can anyone confirm this, or more specifically, did any of you guys know anything about this?? (Cause no-one else seems to know, quite a few have already been shocked by this news and wondering if MOAB is actually going to be able ro run this year)

From what I'm reading, it seems that GW intends to poach all your players from GW systems on day 1 for their Games day event.

I'm hoping you guys knew something about this, cause if there was no collaboration on this, then GW has sunk to a whole new low. (I'll still be playing infinity at any rate, assuming it's still on)

Hmmm, attending MOAB will suck for many if its at 2 different venues!

And yes, I guess southern battlegamers are aware, as GW links to them for MOAB registration.

The big question is WHY?

Why??

I'm guessing GW probably chose a date, but most likely due to their usual laziness, didn't do enough research beforehand and only later realized another well established and popular event, MOAB, was held in a relatively local region on the same weekend as their event. They probably realized that a lot of tourney players would likely choose to play at the respected and better run MOAB event over their Games day tournament (which have been downright dodgy and disorganized when they were held in the past), and thus their own event would lose out.

Hence, they've likely taken the most profitable option in their eyes - poach the MOAB event and pick up an easy 40 players for their event, which will boost their tournament and cost them nothing to do so.

If I hadn't already stopped playing 40k at MOAB and gone to Infinity instead, I definitely wouldn't be participating because of this.

Yawn.

A knee-jerk reaction if ever I saw one. What's next? Complaining that in a week it will be March since it's something different?

Hi Guys

Southern Battlegamers is aware that Games Day is on the same weekend as MOAB.

Since Games Day and MOAB are falling on the same weekend this year, Games Workshop invited MOAB to hold Day 1 of the 40K, WFB and LOTR Tournaments at the Games Day.

Be assured that MOAB will run as normal in 2011 and all events will be fully supported (including non-GW ones).

MOAB Organisers are currently working with Games Workshop to arrive at a mutually beneficial agreement.

When further details have been confirmed we will be able to provide more information.

So why are you so outraged then if it doesn't affect you?

Say you'll do it if they stop price gouging us and the site sponsors.

PURE WIN!

Side note - I was not complaining, just saying that organising to be at MOAB for some out of state or regional people will be annoying if they have to go to (insert wherever GW holds games day this year) and then to the Shire the next day for the remainder of the event.

Actually the site is very easy to get to, more so than the MOAB venue.

Not for interstate visitors who often travel in groups, pick accomodation close to the venue and have people playing non GW events travelling with GW gamers. Dealers will lose out due to customers being away on the first day, scenery and table movement to consider and the extreme inconvenience affecting people attending. Entrants will be confused by the changes and it will affect the experience of all involved.

I've been travelling up for MOAB since year one and think this is a decision that will hurt MOAB greatly.

We have opened a new thread in the MOAB subforum which has our announcement. Hopefully that should help answer some of your questions and give a better understanding of what is being planned.

THIS.

I am not talking for myself, I live in Syd, but others will see it as a real hassle.
