Quick progress update.

I've finished 2 large infantry bases and mostly finished 5 regiment bases for the naiads.
I'm also experimenting with an idea for the Nokken. The fluff description of the nokken says they are surf demons and often lurk disguised as pools of water. So I've tried to mke some pools of water with watery claws emerging from them :

IPB Image

Still in progress and I'm learning the limitations of water effects solution ie, long drying time and many layers required to create deep water.

Finished horde of deep ones:

And first Horde (of 2) of Water elementals:

(whoops, still need to clean up the edges of the base.)

Sweet army Rohan. But are they finesse enough for you?

Yes, Staks. I believe the Nerticans are pretty finesse. Not quite as finesse as Orcs, but getting there. I'm sure I can find some cool looking but sub-optimal army lists to run...

The first batch of bases done. Quite Happy with the look, but still a bit unsure how I'm going to be mounting the models on them. I'll probably only be using around 12-14 models for a regiment as it will get fairly crowded. I'm also considering cutting the feet off some of the naiads and placing them in the water bits of the base to simulate them with their feet underwater (will then faint some water 'froth' around their legs). I did this for the rear depth horrors and it seems to work, although it was much easier cutting through the reaper bones plastic cleanly. Since I have so many naiads now its probably Ok if I accidentally mangle a few...

Going to work a bit more on models now, so progress may slow down a bit.

Colour test for Gigas:

IPB Image

IPB Image

I didn't like the red lobster colour that mantic uses. I want the army to be mostly cool ocean colours (greens/blues and maybe some purple) and so took inspiration from the blue crab. I'm happy with how it looks, although the colour is a little muted (I did go to a light brown/green shade on the underside, but it doesn't really show)

I have 6 Gigas models and I'm trying to decide how to base them. I don't see myself taking regiments of them, so am inclined to base as hordes.

Currently painting a few test naiads. Looking to do blue skin with a greenish-bronze armour.
Also need to do a supply run tomorrow at house of war for paints as I've almost run out of a few colours! ohmy.gif

Thanks again for the comments everyone. Helps keep my motivation up.
Happy to receive (constructive) critiques also.

I finished off the Gigas. Decided to add a splash of red to the claw tips, and think it helps brighten them up a bit.
Played with basing configurations and just cant see how you can fit more than 3 on a horde base (especially given the limited real estate on my custom bases), so I've gone with 3 to a horde. Even though its not strictly tournament legal, I've yet to find a person who has a problem with it. I need to produce more bases for the other gigas.

Have been starting some colour tests for the Naiads.
I want something that looks decent, but is also fast to paint as I have a bagillion of these guys to do. I found on my Orcs and abyssal dwarfs, that the Army Painter wash 'strong tone' was an excellent time saver. It gave a smooth shading effect and dried with a matt finish. Strong tone (and dark, light, medium tone) does a brown shading, which is good for a gritty looking army like orcs, but I don't think it'll be good for the nerticans. However, while buying paints yesterday I saw that Army painter also do coloured tones, such as blue, green, purple, red... so I bought them all biggrin.gif

For this colour test, I've used bronze with a green+turquoise ink wash, highlighted with brass and light blue/grey (PP underbelly blue) with the Army Painter blue tone wash applied. 5 steps seems manageable

IPB Image

I think this is close to the look I want so might try producing a small bunch of them and seeing how they look on a base. Unless I get distracted by other models....

As predicted, I got distracted by some other models:

Knocked out this riverguard troop in an afternoon. I wanted the frogmen to have marshy bases to reflect their different habitat. I plan on adding water effects to the middle of the base (where I dug out some of the cork board) to make it look like a swamp pond. This will take a few layers and so may be a couple of days before done, but I'm happy with the general look.

Looking great! I think the red tips on the gigas' claws was a good idea as it makes them pop a bit more

First regiment of Naiads finished biggrin.gif

IPB Image

IPB Image

IPB Image

Only fit 11 on the base. Was aiming for 12-14 but I think it looks crowded enough. Will need to finish another ensarer regiment to make up a horde, which will pretty much be an auto include in most lists. I also want to give heartpiercers a go, even though they seem to be considered a bit pricey for what they do.

also finished a greater water elemental - this is the reaper bones model that comes in transparent blue plastic, which I primed and painted.

IPB Image

I really like how water elementals look on paper and am considering running them a bunch. The fit in on the regen theme and at spd 7 you don't don't necessarily need surge (but I'd probably take it anyway).
