Game 319 - OTC Rnd3 - Arkadius1(WWfF) vs Absylonia2(OoA)
Spread the Net

The opening 5 rounds of this team tournament are a round robin pool, so we'd gone down in our previous 2 rounds however if we win the next three then we can still make our intended goal of getting 6th.

Into the next round, most of the team has good matchups, so we line up pretty well. I get Legion in a matchup I'm quite confident in:

Minion Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Will Work for Food
[Arkadius 1] Dr. Arkadius [+32]
- Battle Boar [7]
- Gorax Rager [7]
- Gorax Rager [7]
- Razor Boar (2) [7]
- Razor Boar (2) [7]
- Razor Boar (2) [7]
- Road Hog [16]
- Road Hog [16]
- War Hog [15]
- War Hog [15]
- Targ [0(4)]
Gatorman Witch Doctor [0(4)]
Hutchuck, Ogrun Bounty Hunter [0(6)]
Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor [0(5)]
Swamp Gobber Chef [1]
Swamp Gobbers Bellows Crew [2]

Speed dating with:

Legion Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Oracles of Annihilation
[Absylonia 2] Absylonia, Daughter of Everblight [+28]
- Carnivean [18]
- Carnivean [18]
- Naga Nightlurker [8]
- Proteus [19]
- Scythean [16]
- Seraph [14]
- Succubus [0(4)]
Blighted Nyss Shepherd [1]
Blighted Nyss Shepherd [1]
Spell Martyr [1]
The Forsaken [0(4)]
The Forsaken [0(4)]
Ice Witches [7]

Welp, no need to talk to long on this one.
I lose the roll and get given second, basically an open table for how it plays out.

Legion runs up. The only solo near their flag is a Spell Martyr, killing it means that scoring that point will be quite difficult. Ergo I run up a Razor Boar and Primal Shock it down.

Slight issue here....I'mno camp. Everything is spaced safely out of Legion melee threat, regardless of what Legion do I'm ggoing to feat next round and win on either attrition or scenario.

So......Carniveans have assault....

IPB Image
Basically everything Legion runs up the field, the Carni's get Puppet Strings and assault spray on Arkadius.
At the end of it, the good doctor is left on fire with five boxes. It doesn't go out, average damage dice easily bin him.

Woops.

In spite of my ingenuity at losing Green matches, the rest of the team carries through and we win the round.

Sucks about that 3rd game but we've all done it at the OTC at some point in time.

Mine was accidentally starting Earthbreaker's activation before singing Aiyana's Fairy Dust song against a Menoth player, who I had specifically requested as a match up assuming it was a straight up green (you know, being the Mk2 Earthbreaker...also, me being a Menoth player, as well).

It was a moment of stark realisation, looking up at my opponent who had also caught the blunder, processing whether I wanted to be a jerk, deciding not to, and then playing on. Almost won it, probably would have if EB had that extra turn of shooting. sad.gif

Anyways, it happens.

How do you rate Hutchuck in the current scenario pack? Are the zones often close enough to make him a threat when he ambushes?

How do you rate a Roadhog with Primal and Forced Evo? Does that reliably murder another heavy?

Nah, was super fun. I was cracking up 2 seconds in to the Legion turn when they pointed out. I also failed to point out that the dude was one of the cleanest and most precise dudes I've played in absolute yonks.

I tried a Gif here and WargamerAU isn't having a bar of it

Rate him as amazing. He's what makes my Arkadius fine on Spread the Net. Scenario wise he's there for outlying flags or late zone contesting, I've never had an issue getting him where he needs to be. You rarely get the Wild Shot on ambush turn unless he's been forgotten about.

Convergence Vectors yes, Khador jacks no. The swing from +1 to -1 on the damage is usually enough. Will be significantly improved when the Rust functionality on Constructs is unlocked.

Game 320 - OTC Rnd4 - Arkadius(WWfF) vs Morghoul3 (MoW)
Epic Recon

Final round for the day, into a team of the bearded rawl men. There's basically Rahn and Merc nonsense no one really wants, happily others go Joe Black on those and I get some eastern war obsessivites commanded by nice painting man.

I'm expecting Rasheth double turtles, which means I alpha some battle engines off the board, have an equivalent exchange, then win up happily. Instead it's Morghoul 3, which is far more uncertain for me as I don't know how that junk goes, something about blindfolds and stabbing?

Minion Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Will Work for Food
[Arkadius 1] Dr. Arkadius [+32]
- Battle Boar [7]
- Gorax Rager [7]
- Gorax Rager [7]
- Razor Boar (2) [7]
- Razor Boar (2) [7]
- Razor Boar (2) [7]
- Road Hog [16]
- Road Hog [16]
- War Hog [15]
- War Hog [15]
- Targ [0(4)]
Gatorman Witch Doctor [0(4)]
Hutchuck, Ogrun Bounty Hunter [0(6)]
Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor [0(5)]
Swamp Gobber Chef [1]
Swamp Gobbers Bellows Crew [2]

Not getting it's Posse units blinded all game by:

Skorne Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Masters of War
[Morghoul 3] Dominar Morghoul & Escorts [+25]
- Archidon [10]
- Titan Sentry [15]
- Aptimus Marketh [5]
Eilish Garrity, the Occultist [5]
Tyrant Rhadeim [9]
Legends of Halaak [8]
Praetorian Ferox (max) [20]
Praetorian Karax (max) [11]
- Praetorian Karax Officer & Standard [0(4)]
Praetorian Swordsmen (max) [13]
- Praetorian Swordsman Officer & Standard [4]
Tyrant Commander & Standard Bearer [0(6)]
Tyrant Commander & Standard Bearer [0(6)]

I got to select the table, alas the ones with favourable terrain for me were well and truly taken so I defaulted to the scenario that favours beasts lists, ye old Recon.

I then also lose the dice roll and end up with second. Both flags are protected by forests, so I take the side where the forest is on fire, a prospect that doesn't bother me to much with beasts and psycho surgery. I also get a defensive wall. There's trenches and a cloud on the table, it doesn't matter a great deal given the nature of ranged attacks in the match up (i.e. Skorne have....Eilish?).

It turns out Morhoul Blinds stuff and sends thing around acrobatically.

IPB Image
Round 1: Skorne splits into two forces, Archidon/Ferox going left and everything else going to the right. The Tycoms also stab their standard bearers to give souls to Marketh, it's an afterlife almost reminiscent of dying to a toilet from space.
I send four of the Razor Boars, one Gorax and one War Hog left with Targ. Basically everything else goes right. The Road Hogs pop in front of Arkadius, there's enough opposing infantry than I'm anticipating Raw Adrenaline Road Hog sprays doing some good work. Forced Evo goes on the right War Hog.
Guardian Beast is up, being the relevant of the two upkeeps for Arkadius in the matchup.

IPB Image
Skorne 2: Everything moves forward extremely aggressively.

Left wise, Rhadheim plants himself on the flag, the Archidon floats further up while the Ferox get in amongst the Razor Boars. They knock out a couple Minds, otherwise don't do particularly well.

Right wise the Karax form a pile at the end of my zone, popping their mini-feat. Sadly they engage the Road Hogs with their initial moves, so I don't get Guardian Beast spray of awesome. The Karax do some CMA's on the Razor Boars, they take out the Spirit of one of them.
Swordsman, the Sentinel and Morghoul pile up behind them.

IPB Image
Minon 2: No, I don't remember bow-wow either. Now let us stare into the crystal ball placed in front of the phone camera....I see......some models?

Armour buffed Karax. Annoying, but not unmowable. Nothing amazing happening here brain wise, it's let's kill stuff time. I did stare at the table for some time trying to decide if I should feat or not, I ended up not doing so at enough work could be done without it and I'll take some casualties or end model placements that make me not care about impending frenzies.

Out left, The Razor Boars, Gorax and War Hog kill four of the Ferox and miss the Archidon. Hutchuck comes in as well to contest the Skorne flag, gets a charge into the back of the Archidon and misses. Sod. Guess Rhadheim is about to murder you.

On the right, one Road Hog gets Ghostly and Raw Adrenaline from Arkadius, who shuffles back. Forced Evo is thrown on the Battle Boar, I boost a Crippling Grasp onto the Karax and Psycho Surgery to heal up the various models dinged up by the Skorne previously.
Gobbers cloud in front of Arkadius.

The buffed Road Hog moves out to the centre of the table, does a spray that wings Morghoul, kills a couple Swordsman, Marketh and misses the actual intended target of Eilish. And yet I'm ok with how that went.

Karax blob wise, the super engaged Rabo's shuffle, one copping a freestrike for a few points. This is to make a spot for the now Primalled Forced Evo'd Battle Boar to go in. He moes in, maxes his Fury to Berserk overtake his way through most of the unit, foiled in the end by the Officer, who gets put on one box just in time to stop the Swordsman suffering a similar fate. Shame.

The other Road Hog jsut chills back, making an ineffectual shot. The War Hog moves into the Fire Forest to kill a single Swordsman to clear up my flag, not an ideal move alas options were limited.
The Swamp Gobber Chef runs to my flag, Orin sits in the backfield to survive the return strike.

I get up one point off the flag, now 0-1.

IPB Image
Skorne 3: Rhadheim easily butchers Hutchuck and shuffles back to the Skorne flag. The Archidon and surviving Ferox kill a Razor Boar each.

Centrally, the Sentry and one Tycom go into the forward Road Hog, flailing and putting it at one box. He then gets finished off by Eilish advancing and doing an almighty Bleed. A fair response for trying to burn someone alive really.

Right wise, Morghoul feats. Everything left to go charges acrobatically around, embarrisngly they fail to either Blind or kill the Battle Boar, only taking out it's Body.
The Swordsman Power Swell, kill the remaining Road Hog and Swamp Gobbers. Legends of Halaak Slam the War Hog a tiny way through the forest. remaining Tycom and some of the Swordsman also fail to nab the Battle Boar.

Well.....wasn't expecting that. Morghoul is empty of Fury next to a pair of Beasts.

Skorne score there flag, 1 all.

IPB Image
Minion 3: Arkadius Feats, War hog moves over, kills a Swordsman to overtake into Morghoul and kill him.

The poor opposing luck made the end result inevitable and simple, however even if the Battle Boar dies and Morghoul retreats a bit I'm still happy. I can easily push hard on the left to counter the scoring game, between lighting and multiple beast attacks with feat I'll finish off the infantry on the right, Arkadius can happily drift left to set up killing the objective in future turns. Content into the matchup, so close to the Battle Boar living even bigger dreams.

The Team wins this one on the back of throwing the Grandfather clock against it's natural enemy, a typhoon of Blinding Light powered by existentialism.

I always spend too much time trying to decipher your cryptics...

Grandfather clock? Typhoon of Blinding Light?

I'm hoping this is some kooky 80's fantasy/sci-fi film...smile.gif

Game 321 - OTC Rnd5 - Arkadius(WWfF) vs Strakhov1(WoW)
Epic Pit

Something about a new dawn and Dracula screaming at the moon.
It's the last of the Round Robin games, at 2-2 a win puts us in the middle of the pack as planned.

I just made a Carver list trying to fit in all the tools for Primal Terrors. It made me unreasonably angry as a list, primarily because it looks like hot garbage.

Anyhoo, mostly happy with whatever into this team, outside of a Ret list that might be quite annoying with it's double space ticks. I end up into the Khador, I pick a table with a central obstruction. No real idea on either list, didn't change what I was dropping.

Minion Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Will Work for Food
[Arkadius 1] Dr. Arkadius [+32]
- Battle Boar [7]
- Gorax Rager [7]
- Gorax Rager [7]
- Razor Boar (2) [7]
- Razor Boar (2) [7]
- Razor Boar (2) [7]
- Road Hog [16]
- Road Hog [16]
- War Hog [15]
- War Hog [15]
- Targ [0(4)]
Gatorman Witch Doctor [0(4)]
Hutchuck, Ogrun Bounty Hunter [0(6)]
Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor [0(5)]
Swamp Gobber Chef [1]
Swamp Gobbers Bellows Crew [2]

Having a threat range off with:

Khador Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Wolves of Winter
[Strakhov 1] Kommander Oleg Strakhov [+28]
- Kodiak [13]
- Torch [18]
- War Dog [3]
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution [6]
Fenris [9]
Greylord Forge Seer [0(4)]
- Destroyer [14]
Koldun Lord [0(4)]
Koldun Lord [4]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [13]
- Greylord Escort [3]
Doom Reaver Swordsmen [13]
Greylord Ternion [7]

I won the roll, sweet first it is, the primary terrain I care about being centrally located anyway.

IPB Image
Round 1: Curse your light reflective table oh image of the sea!
Remember Dreadfleet? Me neither.

I run my stuff up, relatively even spread. Flanking Razor Boars, Road Hogs in front of Arkadius for Raw Adrenaline possibilities.
Khador throws Doom Reavers around, the Kodiak pops behind the obstruction.

IPB Image
Minion 2: SHINY CHIN SHE'S GOT A SHINY CHIN. I JUST CAN'T GET OVER HER SHINY CHIN.

It's Alpha time to clear out the screen and set up scenario win. It's time to feat and keep Arkadius safe.

Razor Boars go out and kill most of the Doom Reavers, Hutchuck pops in and flails at Eiryss, the right Road Hog Assaults to set Fenris on fire then sprints back to the safety of the wall.

Arkadius shuffles left and feats, sending the Razor Boars out again, one of them managing to gut Eiryss. Fury gets cleared off the Road Hog and Primal spends, last feat move is the left War Hog getting up the board.

Said buffed War Hog then uses Ghostly to charge while winging the obstruction to go into the Kodiak and kill it.

Arkadius ends up hiding behind the Battle Boar, the other Road Hog, the obstruction and a Gobber cloud. Guardian Beast in waiting as well.

Super solid turn, really like how safe Arkadius is.

IPB Image
Khador 2: Ternions move to toe the centre zone, between them and one of the Bad Santas they manage to Stationary the forward War Hog. Torch then charges in, rolls embarrassingly poorly and leaves the beast on halfish health, having lost its Spirit.

Rightwise the marshalled Destroyer, Doom Reavers and Fenris kill off the Razor Boars and put my objective on half health. Not without a Razor Boar Counter Charging and dismounting Fenris though, so that was kinda funny. To me. Not everyone was equally amused by the quant murder qualities of mini-piggies.

IPB Image
Minion 3: The War Hog Frenzies and dings Torch. In true First World Warmachine problems, the War Hog surviving prevents the Road Hog going in to kill Torch. However, it did prevent Torch toeing the zone, so I can clear out all the zones and get a crippling control point lead.

Left zone, Rabo's finish off the last Doomreavers, a buffed up Gorax pops the objective.

Arkadius and entourage shuffle to the bottom of the centre zone, clouded up and happy. Road Hog flames down the contesting Ternion.

Right wise the other Road Hog goes in with Ghostly, kills the Doomreavers in the zone then Sprints back to behind the forest.

I score the zones and pop the objective, now up 4-0.

Khador kills the War Hog, then essentially concede after failing to get Overrun to trigger. Fair enough, even that isn't enough to get a credible threat on Arkadius anyway.

Our team wins the round, 3-2. The two pools now break down into mini-brackets, the mid ranking goal is looking pretty good.

Game 322 - OTC Rnd6 - Arkadius(WWfF) vs Thagrosh1(PT)
Outlast

Alas, the final round of the tournament. For us anyway, our team buzzes out from the final round, winning this one gets us to our glorious 6th position.

I'd ranked every match as Yellow, pretty sure every single one of those was wrong, they were actually either green or orange. Net result being I end up facing down the barrel of Cryx and Primal Terrors, I want neither. I pick the Legion, who convinced me they hadn't played their lists before the OTC. Now expecting the poor results of beig super conned.....

Minion Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Will Work for Food
[Arkadius 1] Dr. Arkadius [+32]
- Battle Boar [7]
- Gorax Rager [7]
- Gorax Rager [7]
- Razor Boar (2) [7]
- Razor Boar (2) [7]
- Razor Boar (2) [7]
- Road Hog [16]
- Road Hog [16]
- War Hog [15]
- War Hog [15]
- Targ [0(4)]
Gatorman Witch Doctor [0(4)]
Hutchuck, Ogrun Bounty Hunter [0(6)]
Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor [0(5)]
Swamp Gobber Chef [1]
Swamp Gobbers Bellows Crew [2]

About to bounce hard off:

Legion Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Primal Terrors
[Thagrosh 1] Thagrosh, Prophet of Everblight [+28]
- Blightbringer [32]
- Typhon [20]
Spell Martyr [1]
Warmonger War Chief [5]
Warmonger War Chief [5]
Blighted Ogrun Warspears (max) [15]
- Warspear Chieftan [5]
Blighted Ogrun Warspears (max) [15]
- Warspear Chieftan [5]
Hellmouth [0(6)]
Hellmouth [0(6)]

Legion get to pick table, they go with Outlast as a good scenario for the unit focused list and poor for the Workers for Fine Sustenance.
I also lose the roll for first, I pick the side with a good forest around my flag. Its not perfect, but is better than the opposing option of a wall.

IPB Image
Round 1: Both armies run at each other, I palce models so they can get past the forest.
The Warspears forgot to allocate a Prey, so that was unfortunate for 'ol Blighty. Legion beasts go central, Hellmouths out front, Spear units on either flank.

I Force Evo a War Hog, feeling hte sheer optimism that maybe this time I get to make an attack o the Blight Bringer.

IPB Image
Legion 2: The opposing threat ranges are quite limited, so things mostly run around. The Hellmouths activate early, so when the Blight Bringer pops a shot into the right Road Hog it happily Hyper Aggresives forward. Sadly enough Tentacles and Ogrun go in front of the Blight Bringer that my dreams of Gargantuan murder and halted before they can really begin.

IPB Image
Minion 2: Alright, I've learnt my lesson. Feat in with only a pair of Heavies this time. Thankfully the Hellmouths don't have any severe hidey holes to deal with.

Razor Boars pop blocking tentacles, then a War Hog and a Road Hog both get Primalled and go in.
They both pop a Hell Mouth and a pair of Ogrun apiece. One Rabo ends up next to the Legion flag, also eating an ogrun.

Beasts spread out in both zones, the left Road Hog flame throwers down an Ogrun. A Heavy sits in each zone in threat range of the outer edge.

Swamp Gobbers run to toe the right zone, Chef runs to my flag. Hutchuck also appeared, screamed "Biff" and left a War Chief on a couple boxes.

I score my flag and the right zone, 2-0.

[imghttps://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L5nq9cBqkRQ/WxPKYFVcW4I/AAAAAAAATNI/VhTiQMsLya4jtk36XQj1Vh7LYfl2Kc2WgCLcBGAs/s1600/060%2B%2528800x450%2529.jpg[/img]
Legion 3: Blight Bringer aims, shoots the War Hog in the right zone.
Typhon and the remaining nearby Ogrun go into the extreme forward War hog, Forced Evo proves problematic and the Piggy lives. Any minute now he'll sprout some wings as well.

The Ogrun on the right fair somewhat better, killing the Road Hog while the War Chief murers Hutchuck and smashes a nearby Razor Boar.

Alas, nothing was able to get up the board, so I score my flag again to go up 3-0

IPB Image
Minion 3: War Hog kills the requisite contesting Ogrun, I score the flag and right zone again. Game ends somewhat abruptly.

We win the round 3-2, confirming our 6th place placing with the last round bug out. Mild success is ours!

In theory I'll try Cygnar for Wintercon in a couple months, though we'll see how well that actually goes. If I end up with Winions again (Which, in fairness, I've had far more success with than Mercs) it'll need to have an anti-Legion list by the look of it, Maelok doesn't look like an anti Primal Terrors theme to me (Charging Posse with Mortality do not kill a pseudo arm 22 Hellmouth).

Game 323 - Test - Thagrosh1 (PT) vs Thorle1 (BoO)
Epic Pit

So the current hotness has hit the locality. BLIGHTED OGRUN FOR DAYZ.

A local expressed interest in trying it out and I haven't worked out my Cygnar stuff, so behold Proxy Hell.

Laziness compells me to act, which doesn't sound right. Anyway I just kept the Minions in the bag and slapped labels everywhere.

Ripped off the Dingaling list, it mauled me so it must be broken.

Thag1, Blightbringer, Golab, trip melee Ogrun, Hellmouths
vs
Bradigus with a pair of Ram Hands, Sentry/Shifting stones, stack of Woldwatchers

Running this as a test game, so to attempt to simulate competence I did some takebacks and position shuffles that I wouldn't normally do.

I won the roll, took first to get up the board. Both sides have good forests for Hellmouth placements, so it's all good. There's also a wonky shaped obstruction in the centre of the board.

So...Posse are melee Ogrun, Huge base is Blightbringer, Skarath is Gol.....ag? Anamag's flying beast whose name is one letter off being a UA's name. Weird things are Hellmouths.

IPB Image
Legion 1: My stuff runs forward, Bradigus has deployed to push hard on the right.
I've got my left hellmouth further back than is probably optimal, hiding behind a wall. Right Hellmouth is further up behind a forest.

Tentacles move out to blocking positions.
I've got the two regular units going on the left, the singular unit with UA on the right.
Golag leads out in front of hte Blightbringer, Thags put the strength buff on the UA'd unit.

IPB Image
Circle 1: Synergy is up, the world trembles in shock and horror. Or at least I do, I sodding hate that spell.

Circle stuff moves up a short way, things keeping away from the Hellmouths. Attempts to kill Tentacles on the right go really badly in a sad way, a pair of tentacles surviving when they had no right to. Impervious Flesh is rule. Why is it a rule? What sins did we commit?

IPB Image
Legion 2:So...I *may* (i.e. definitely did) screw up and completely failed to remember that the tentacle that died in front of Golag became a forest, not a cloud. Um....test game! We played it like the Tentacle was never there! Saved!

Wait.....
*Looks up rules*
Sigh. It's GolaBBBBBBB. Dangit. And he doesn't have Eyeless Sight. What is even happening.

Anyway, it's time to just run dudes up ready to do scenario/kill stuff in my next turn.

Blightbringer lobs a shot at a Ram Hands, that gets Shield Guarded to another Ram hands. This saves the Wayfarer from blast damage, however the ultimate goal was to assist Golab so I wasn't super concerned.

Thags puts his strength buff on Golab, who charges a watcher in front of Bradigus. Said watcher also took a single damage point from the BB's shot, so Finisher is proced and the light warbeast basically explodes. Those two strength buffs were not necessary at all. Golab sprints back to the other side of the obstruction.

Ogrun run forward, a single smuck from the left and right unit both go forward enough to engage, though really they are just there to force the Vengeance trigger.
Gorags unit moves to far forward on the right, back Ogrun should have stayed within the BB aura. Oh well.

Rightside tentacles eat both a Gallows Grove and one of the Shifting Stones.

IPB Image
Circle 2: At some point Brad feats this turn, though only after multple activations to clear out Tentacles and the forward ogrun.

Left zone things just move to contest, centrally a ram hands gets stranded up their after killing some ogrun and failing to get to Golab. Rightwise all the Tentacles die and multiple of the Watches get into Gorag's unit, leaving three of the alive including G-bro himself. There was insufficient weight of attacks to pop the objective, which gets left on 7 health. Not loving this multiple Wold Watcher build at this point.

IPB Image
Legion 3: BB shoots the opposing objective, centering an AoE that buffs the Ogrun unit that swarms up, killing the objective, Grove and Sentry Stone.

Golab kills a Ram hands, Sprints to toe the left zone.

Right wise Ogrun kill a pair of Woldwatchers, the spawned Tentacle stabs a backward watcher that didn't put up Earth's Blessing, dragging him into the other watchers outside of Bradigus' control area.

I score the left zone and the objective, so go up 2-0.

IPB Image
Circle 3: Feralgeist runs to toe the left zone, Brad and various watchers clear the centre zone, right wise the zone gets cleared by watchers meleeing. Hellmouth scratches itself, pondering the meaning of life.

Circle score the centre and right zone, so we go to 2 all.

IPB Image
Legion 4: We're off the clock by now, I just need to grind out, soon the left zone won't be contestable and I can just rely on a round 7 win.

Left wise, ogrun start running across toward the centre zone around the obstruction. Golab sits there to score.
BB shoots a ram hands, blast kills the Wayfarer. Also toes the centre zone.
Right wise, Gorag and a tentacle go into the Sentry Stone, alas they leave it on a box.

I score the left, 3-2.

IPB Image
Circle 4/Legion 4.5: The last Ram Hand beats his way across to toe the left zone, Bradigus moves up to attempt to clear the zone with gun shots, not accounting for the BB. it doesn't work. Right zone does get cleared.

We tie up 3 all, the only beast not full on fury available is the Ram hands so Golab kills it then BB eats Bradigus.

I could definitely improve my positioning, regardless Brad Woldwatchers didn't feel like it was going to have much of a chance. Cue ominous noies. OMINOUS I SAY.

Game 324 - Kraye1 (HM) vs Wanderer1 (DM) - Shortrep
Standoff

10 days between games? Inhumane. Inapeane mayhap. Stanley Tucci would not stand for this.

Had a shorty against the Wanderer, both lists being learnt and a game with abrupt pull out, so no vast vistas of conclusion to make really. Present Kraye is triple Centurions, some Chargers and a Minuteman.

Minutemen look neat, I find it bizarre they aren't used more. Specifically I wanted something that could get up the board to apply feat without flipping over to Sons of the Tempest.
Currently have Junior with a Sentinel, I'm rather torn on if he should even be in the list. Testing pending.
I also have Lynus and Edrea in the list. Conveniently for an extra attack to potentially pop stealth models, and here we have some juicy Gremlin Swarms.

Wanderer wins the roll and picks first, I get a side with some defensive stuff, in particular a nice wall in my zone whereas the Grymkin will be funneled by an inconvenient obstruction.

Grymkin run, not as aggressively as they should, fearing the mighty Minuteman.
I then move up, the Centurions Trampling and Polarity Fielding. There's a Gorehound on each flank, I move up to shoot one. Prowl and Fog of War aye? Whoops. Good things Repo 5 is basically the most forgiving mechanic ever.

Grymkin push up lightly, contesting the left zone with some Dread rots while the right side gets a Gore hound and a Gremlin Swarm.

IPB Image

Left wise, Centurions and one Charger kill the three Dreadrots in that zone. Junior's Sentry surrenders itself for the greater good to go up into the Grymkin rectangle. Rightside the Minuteman hops forward, throws the Gorehound towards my side where the Chargers can move in and kill it.

A Gremlin Swarm and a Crabbit are also killed, ultimately not a huge issue as the concession drops when I score up 3-0.

I don't think its that bad. Grymkin can just push up the guts, use a Skin and Moans to pop my objective and make it 3-2, my forces now being so divided that getting magic weapons out left to kill contesting Gremlin swarms is going to be extremely difficult. Contesting the Grymkin rectangle also isn't something the list does especially well.

Anyway, Kraye seems sweet, though ultimately my current list design and play style hasn't made use of his feat at all. Early days.

As a bystander it was an unexpected conclusion to the game.
Even if it was as futile as he made out, there would at least been the opportunity to try more of his list out and see how things (corpses, feat, markers, cards, positioning, etc) worked in practice.

Ayep, we talked through some stuff after the game, can only conclude my Persuasion score is still rather low. Very much not a Dragon Born over here.

Game 325 - Kraye (HM) vs Anamag1 (PT)
Epic Recon

Sunday it's a fun day face it Waluigi sucks.

List is all painted up, so suck it Proxies. Unless I want to run a list pair, about 25 ish models shy for my Haley3 (Uh....yeah....*my* Haley3 list, even though it may look, smell and piss like a copied one, I swear it isn't that).

Incidentally, Kraye's Horse looks super depressed. They even give it a little platform so it's angled to stare sullenly at the ground, thinking about the futility of life and explaining probability maths (2 50% does not equate to 75%. Fight me in a beer drinking way.).

Kraye list is triple Centurion, triple Charger, a Minuteman, Junior with a Sentinel, min mechanics, Lynus and Edrea.

Someone said clouds were a thing ok! I also totally thought initially it was going to be super relevant, then I realised I'd conflated Anamag with Kolgrimma, the other thing meant to be a hotness wrecking the world. Except it seems to be more Primal Terrors for dayz.
So yes, Lynus and Edrea should probably be something different, and yet I jsut kind've like teh idea of them.
The Kraye Hotness seems to be four Centurions, or a pair with four hammersmith/some other cheaper jack.

Anamag has the Blightbringer, then one each of Warspears/Warmongers/Chosen, then some solos and a double up of the max fun tentacle units. Curses.

I don't like the look of this, no damage fixes beyond boosting. Going into it the plan is to just drag out the game until I can pop Anamag, will need to have upkeeps out so that she pops hex Blast instead of Gallows.

I lose the die roll, Legion picks sides. I then end up with the side I want, so life is full of surprises.

There's a central forest, some hills and such around.Key point for me is I got a defensive wall int he right zone, so I can contest that zone and flag without being Gallows'd forward. (Gallows'd can't be right? Generic disparaging comment about my english teacher rather than accepting that the onus for a lack of improvement in such matters is on me).

IPB Image
Vygnar 1: When the Hellmouths go down, one pops into a trench in the right zone. There's a solid 30 seconds in which the other is vaguely set either behind or in the centre forest. As luck would have it, Anamags brain chucks it inside the forest, so I can try to pop it this turn. Focus gets allocated out to the Chargers and it's happy days.

So...three Chargers shoot an unbuffed Hellmouth. Odds of killing it? Turns out it's a mighty 42%. Sure enough I leave it on three boxes, so that's sodding terrifying. Arlan gives a focus to the Minuteman, who moves up and manages to finish it off. That was not an inspiring series of activations.

Sudden weird desire to mount Kraye on a Frightmare.

Two of the Centurions/Chargers lean toward the left side as do the Mechanic unit, thinking being that I'll run a suicide mechanic to contest the opposing flag when we get to taht stage of the game.
The more central of these Centurions gets Admonition.

Rightwise the Centurion gets Arcane Shield, thinking back that he is likely to be behind the wall and engaging Tentacles, so will be a harder prospect to Hex Blast. Lynus and Edrea run to here, as the Gremlin Swarm is on this side as well.

The Centurions all popped Polarity Field and used walk + Reposition as a pseudo run. Normally I'd trample up to claim board space, the focus allcoation to kill the Hellmouth stopped that.

IPB Image
Legion 1: Warspears/Warmongers run up the left. Warspears forgot to pick a Prey, so I have a 100% success rate on that.
Blightbringer runs to the right of the Legion objsective, Chosen hover out i front of it. They recieve the armour buff upkeep. The surviving Hellmouth sends foraging Tentacles out.

IPB Image
Xygnar 2: The Legion beef is on the way, alas'tis tainted. Almost hainted you could say.
Start sandpapering time I guess.

On the left, two of the Chargers shoot up the War Spears, killing three and toughing out another. They then repo back, the left most Centurion waffles up onto the hill and pops Polarity Field.

Rightwise, the remaining Charger toughs out the War Chieftain, intent being to remove Solos that could score my flag. Second shot tries to clear out a blocking Tentacle and fails to do so.
The Sentinel and Minuteman that kill said Tentacle and bounce off the front Chosen before Repositiong back.
Remaining Centurions try to kill the front Chosen before repositioning back with Polarity field. The first toughs the mutant cav out before hiding behind the wall with Arcane Shield, the other charges in, killing a Tentacle, hits the knocked down Chosen. Does a single damage and watches the Chosen actually gain health from the attempted murder. Disheartened, the heavy moves back with Admonition up.

The Chosen surviving was.....embarrasing at best? Reasonable success at messing up the Warspears at least.

Legion 2: Missed the pics. Doh. Turns out the Water Inspector didn't show up to our workplace because they went to the wrong site 4 hours away. Good work Government. Solid.

Anamag moves up, feats, puts the Strength buff spell on the Chosen. A boosted hex Blast lands on the righmost Centurion and strips Arcane Shield. Blightbringer throws out a shot to get teh strength buff up the board.

The Chosen move forward and kill the no longer Arcane protected Centurion, was not good. One of them also went to the central Centurion, I opted to not trigger Admonition until I could see where the War Mongers were going.
Alas, the first War Monger ran up to block teh Centurion from moving up into easy threat range of Anamag. He ends up Admonitioning backwards to not engage things to allow some Cygnar shots. War Mongers also move to block Line of Sight to Anamag anyway, a pair of them toe the left zone.

Left wise, the War Spears move up and stab the left most Centurion for some scratch damage.

Ammok runs to the Legion flag, the Gremlin swarm goes to my iteration.

Legion score the right zone and both flags, now 0-3.

IPB Image
Ygnar 3: It's simple enough, we kill the Batman. With Manbat!
That point differential is awkward at best, I have to keep the delaying game. It's clear that the right zone is Legion turf and that isn't going to change, I have to seize the board space around the left zone and pop all the Legion solos to prevent even the possibility of them scoring the flags, given Anamag isn't in a position to get their in the next turn. I deeply regret lacking an extra solo to run up the left flank for offensive scoring.

Leftwise, the pair of Chargers kill Ammok and a War Monger. The left most Centurion kills off the remaining War Spears and repositions up to contest the Legion flag with Polarity field up.

Sentinel shots and the centre Centurion kill another pair of War Mongers and one of the Chosen, the heavy then repos to toe the left zone. The Sentinel also had to back up to stop giving an engagement bonus, the Chosen did 12 damage that cored out the centre columns without taking out a system. As planned.

Minuteman jumps in to contest the right zone, he will be sorely missed. Arlen also charges in to be an annoyance. Edrea kills the Gremlin Swarm, Lynus exists. The Charger on this side kills off the Warmonger Chief and a tentacle.

I score the left zone, I'm safe from a scenario loss for another turn though it's still looking sketchy. Also attacks are definitely going to land on Kraye, who did gun shots and repositioned across, planning to eventually run to the Legion flag. 1-3.

IPB Image
Legion 3: Blightbringer shoots the obejctive, well and truly takes over the right zone.
The two War Mongers and whatever the UA is called pop their mini-feat, one gets up into the left zone. They kill Arlan and the Objective with minimal difficulty.

Of the Chosen, one gets a single attack charge on Kraye, another goes for the Minuteman and the third goes into Lynus and Edrea. Kraye takes 10 damage, the Minuteman loses half his health and both Lynus and Edrea die.The spawned tentacle tries to finish the Minuteman off and fail.

The last War Monger can't run to either flag, so goes up behind the wall.

The surprising survival of the light warjack means that Legion don't score and we stay 1-3.

IPB Image
Wygnar 4: With feat and Full Throttle a Centurion can get to Anamag. Glorious chance to salvage the situation!
Kraye Shuffles forward, pops feat and Full Throttle. Two of the Chargers unload on Anamag, stripping a transfer.
Sentry leaves the Warmonger UA's melee range to clear the way, dies to the freestrike. Third Charger pops him to stop him free striking the Centurion. Forward most Centurion kills the War Monger engaging the assassination bot.

Pathway now clear, the Centurion charges Anamag, finishes her off with his initials.

Hmmm.Won that one, think if we replay any amount of times afterwards I'm unlikely to do so again, 'tis a problematic matchup even with a scenario that ostensibly works out for my list. Chargers were consistently above average in performance most of the game, more tough rolls or averaging out of damage on their shots and it's strife land. Minuteman was a hero, killing that free Hellmouth and contesting away. Badly misplaced Kraye, probably needed the central Centurion to hang out on the right, didn't over spread the list as badly however struggle to find the cav man a safe spot to sit.

Game 326 - Kraye (HM) vs Axis1 (DI)
Breakdown

'tis the day of Goat Chariot fella, so gamez time. Had a pilgrim down from the real nations capital, it's a return to the lunatic cultists needlessly obsessed on mechanical components, featuring a pairing of Axis and Orion. Was genuinely surprised it wasn't a proxied Locke given her rules just popped out, I'm sure that will happen in the future (I'm not ready for MAT 9 Vectors and Jackhammer. I'm just not.).

I only have the Kraye list, Axis gets dropped which I didn't think was the right call. Could be wrong, we'll see.

Kraye is still triple Centurion, triple Charger, Minuteman, Lynus/Edrea, support models including Junior with a Sentinel.

The journeyman is on thin ice at this point, if he doesn't do good things by the end of the weekend tourney he's out. His Sentinel just feels garbage compared to Kraye's Jacks. Caine0 would be a show in, accept he won't be in general release until after I'm theoretically done with Swans (Though time constraints and painting sloth is making the odds of getting Haley3 together for the mid year con are not even dicey, it's super edgy, like a tweens instragram account).

Opposing list is Destruction Initiative. Never charge CoCites. Double TEP, double Donginator, Cipher, Diffuser, smattering of Servitors and repair dudes.

Polarity Field stopping the Countercharge shenanigans looks pretty tops, reposition stops his feat from locking me down, the scenario can be relatively easily contained. However my number of guns looks awkward with that many disposable shield guards, so well see.

CoC win the die roll and pick first. There's a central wall no matter what, the side I take has a defensive hill and a protectie forest on the left, which gives CoC a wall on the left and a defensive trench, however those would be poor selections as they don't stop the TEP sprays in anyway.

IPB Image
Convergence 1: There's only a single pod of Reflex Servitors, who move up and dig in. Miscellaneous Servitors move up on either flank, then the TEPs, with Axis and Battlegroup in the centre. Standard TEPness, I've never seen them centrally and always ponder why it isn't tried more. Induction lines don't need to be perfect IMO.
There's also an ADO proxying as Eilish in the centre of the lines.

IPB Image
Cygnar 1: Time to Kray Kray. As in spread out like mad.

Axis was camping zero at this point, however he ahd three Shield Guards so it seemed like a waste of Charger shots to go for it.

The Chargers and Sentinel move around and pew pew, one kills the centre and right side Reflex Servitors. The two left Chargers shoot the elft side TEP, due to running he hasn't got his free Sac Pawns so I'm more reliably killing Shield Guard Servitors. It also would have been a win if the TEP just took some damage, so that was a happy situation for me, need to kill those sodding Servitors sooner or later.

Centurions roughly configure against the Vector lineup, which leans toward my right. ergo one Centurion goes left with Admonition, other two go right with the more central one getting Arcane Shield.

Minuteman gets Counter measures as part of the TEP annoyance plan, moves over to the left. Eilish has to choose where he wants to pop upkeeps from that way, banking on most people having default responses to geet rid of Arcane Shield where possible.

Mechanics go left to score that zone in the future, Lynus and Edrea go right. Edrea throws out her magic nuke, gets the perfect scatter onto the line of four Servitors and killing 3 of them. POW 6 strong style, Shinsuke would be so proud.

IPB Image
Groin Joke 2: Axis ponders moving up behind the wall to pop feat, decides against it going for a conservative retreat plan. In limited Kraye game thus far this has worked out pretty well for me, so happy with that.

Left wise a Servitor lands his Beacon garbage on the Minuteman (I forget to even check for Counter Measures, so strong play right there). That flanks TEP then scotts over behind the wall, sprays the Minuteman down to a pair of Cortex boxes.
The Reflex Servitor moves to the centre zone, An Inverter hangs out behind it, looking like its ready to protect the left TEP.
Axis waddles into the Trench.

Rightside the Cipher and Inverter waddle on the hill, Flaring the Arcane Shielded Centurion. The right TEP then sprays it, knocking out it's 3 and 4 columns, which takes out no systems. That happened last game, must be something about Cygnar.

IPB Image
Cygnar 2: No aggresive Axis feat or palcement means that I can now do teh scenario push game.
The centre zone is a death trap, so that's where the less valuable stuff can go to die. Otherwise I can send a Centurion into both TEPs, unfortuantely I lack the means to get more real attacks so killing them isn't a certainty. Need at least one to die so Kraye can have a safer side to flee to.

Kraye shuffles on his hill, staying out of TEP range and pops Horsepower. I keep Admonition going and drop Countermeasures in order to get focus out.

Leftwise the Minuteman gets repaired by the Mechanik and one Gobber for the max 9 points, so that was nice. Said fella then moves up, using Flakfield and his shots to pop off the indepentent Servitors that are contesting the left zone.
The Centurion pops Polarity Field to stop the nearby Inverter ruining his day, he then charges the TEP and spikes hard to kill it (12% chance to kill. Would be 55% without the need to Polarity) then repositions backward.
Chargers in this vicinity wing said Inverter for some damage.

Sentinel goes into the centre zone, kills the contesting Reflex Servitor.

Rightwise the Arcane Shielded Centurion Polarity Fields and goes into the right TEP, alas leaves it on a more normal 8 boxes. Then repositions out of walk and punch Inverter range. It's well and truly out of my control area, such is the Kraye life.
The other Centurion toes the edge of the right Circle, Lynus and Edrea contest as well with Wind Blast up.

I score the left and centre zones, now 2-0.

IPB Image
Protected by a Coffee Drinking Apparatus 3: Axis feats, mostly on his own stuff, though he does get the Sentinel and the left Centurion. Backs up.

The left Inverter with iron Aggression now on it charges the Minuteman, alas its engagement of the Centurion is undone by Admonition.
One shots the Minuteman. Like ya do.

Cipher/Diffuser shoot the central Centurion for some wing damage.

The right TEP hurts the Arcane Shielded Centurion quite badly, it is then finished off by the Inverter trampling up to it.

IPB Image
Cygnar 3: All about zone clearing now. Cygnar, winning off of bureacracy.

Centurion and Chargers easily kill the Inverter on the left, Sentinel kills off the centre Servitor.
Right wise the other Centurion and some ranged attacks cripple but don't kill the Inverter. Alas.

In any event I get up 4-0 and CoC concedes, not contesting with the Cipher in the centre making the game relatively easy for me from here.

Dammit Junior, you were meant to achieve nothing so I could write you off. Arcane Shield was actually relevant, forcing a lot of effort to go into killing the right Centurion. He couldn't be ignored either, as even without focus he had good odds of finishing off the nearby TEP. Not having to fuel up the Sentinel was somewhat of a focus burden relief on the always taxed Kraye. Grumble. Hiss. Winning is Cygnar problem land.

Game 327 - Kraye (HM) vs Orion1 (DI)
Breakdown

The concession in the last game gives us the chance to squeeze in another.
I'm just saying that the Iron Man trilogy is pretty garbage.
Speaking of more people of Iron, this time it's Kraye into Orion, the correct Convergence drop in my view.

My list is unchanged from the last game, trip Centurion and stuff. Junior with Sentinel being the primary testing point.

Orion is in Destruction Initiative, this time with an Axiom, a pair of Assimilators, a......thing with a Buzz Saw gun whose name I forget and a Diffuser. Random number of Servitors. Well, a specific number of Servitors I'm to lazy to count.

Same table setup, same die result shenanigans. I keep my same tableside, though the logic of that is based on a very different game plan.

To my mind the opposing list will win any game that goes past turn 3. The Axiom can easily drag in a pair of jacks which then get killed in melee by Assimilators, while Kraye needs to camp half his stack every turn to rpevent half arse assassination which means my jacks are fighting ineffeciently.

Ergo, the plan is move stuff up and bait a Kraye assassination. Prey that it fails, then counter assassinate. To that end I have to deny Orion the forest, if he hides behind it then I'm probably stuffed.

IPB Image
Some Men Like It To Be Kicked 1: Convergence move up. Servitors make a line behind everything. Axiom on the right side, Orion goes into the trench.

IPB Image
Cygnar 1: Avenging Force is up, I avoid taking any shots in case Avenging Force puts Kraye in melee range of something, which I likely wouldn't survive. I eyeball that four focus is the highest camp I can go and entice the assassination run, player pschology that I'm used to involves a max camp deterring any attempt.

Kraye gets Arcane Shield, which just forces the Spell Piercer casting. Still have to put it up and force the activation anyway. In the vein of "Add stuff to make it harder" I put Counter Measures on the Minuteman, who then moves up, jumps and Repo's to engage the Axiom. Farewell sweet prince.

Centurions all move up in a line with Polarity Field up, Chargers make another rough life behind them. Sentinel sits near Kraye.

IPB Image
Weinstein has to inject his with drugs 2: There's initially an offer to roll out the assassination run and play a long game, I veto it as the entire point of hte plan is for the assassination run to make Orion go somewhere unsafe.

Sure enough, it's triggered.
Orion moves up, puts up Spell Piercer and Magic Bullet. Shoots the Sentinel to drag Kraye off the hill.
Assimilators, Diffuser and the....Monitor! That's it! All move up and try shots. One Assimilator misses, the Monitor gets Shield Guarded, some focus spends and Kraye survives comfortably on ten boxes. Axiom can't possibly get away from Counter Measures to do shots at this point, Gearmen concede before a pair of Centurions murder Orion and his garbage defensive stats (As taught to me by glorious Who's the Bossness).

Well, that was somewhat of a surprise in it's effect. Always easy to math on perfect execution, doesn't mean it plays out that way.
Without Axiom, a Shield Guard and none of the Servitors having a go, that assassination runs pans out as a 28% assassination chance. Better than I thought. Every focus point less basically adds +20% or so to the odds of dying.

Next lot of games should be the weekend tourney. My cunning plan is to take two lists and never drop Kraye. 100% win rate assured.

Super impressed that you played the player in order to provoke that sweet assassination run.

I've always struggled to work out the right balance of perceived weakness against actual weakness and either don't aggro the assassination run when I want it or, I do, but only when I have vastly underestimated my ability to die.

Mk2 Bradigus versus my Feora2 back in the Moops days is a classic example.

Feora: I'm 6" out of deployment, hiding behind a Judicator with Escort up and 2 focus.
Bradigus: I can kill you this turn.
Feora: Haha! Try it. I dare you.

You've invoked horrible memories of dying to Krueger2.

As a community I think there is a general consensus that assassination is not the primary win condition, which the above only really reinforces for me personally. Assassination is the game play solely because my read of the attrition side is I'm completely boned.

It is a sign of our local area that I have no questions when I play against Convergence casters whereas more main stray factions cause me much greater hesitancy (i.e. Skorne, Menoth, Retribution)
