I'm interested in making CNSG work - what you need is a regular time and regular people who are interested in going.

To that end, consider speaking to some of the veteran members who live around here:

-Tim (Mortarn)
-John (AEON)
-Chris (Goat Headed Bastard)
-Scott (Vandamas)

There are just a couple. In terms of avoiding double booking, you basically have monday, tuesday, wednesday, friday and saturday as good days - CGS runs on thursdays and ANU on Sundays.

I would suggest mondays myself - and have a look around the forums and facebook - if you guys have the time, consider a face-book group and look at advertising in WAU general discussion.

Gungahlin and the north in general are short of venues for people to play at - you guys are doing a great service.

Ok, so taking on the advice about using FB to help advertise, i have created a CNSG. The link is below. So please, if you are interested, jump in and invite those you think would be intersted as well. Lets really get this rolling.
Im on leave as of next Friday, so at least some time will be dedicated to finding a good location to play.

I'll also be keen for games in that time, please pm me if your interested.

Does anyone know what CGS pays to use the Deakin Bridge Club every week? Or what the ANU club pays? Neither of their websites mention any dues, or hall rental fees. Evidently, one can just show up.

There are several venues in North Canberra, but none of them would let us host a group gaming night free of charge.

The Belconnen Community Centre has rooms: (The /day charge is for 6 hours or more.)

$15.80/hour or $94.40/day (20 person room)
$23.00/hour or $138.00/day (40 person room)
$20.60/hour or $123.40/day (20 person room)

Gungahlin also has several community meeting facilities, but none of them are less than $28.00/hour.

Gungahlin Regional Community Services

Gungaderra Homestead Community Centre in Harrison: (Price isn't listed, but sure to be comparable.)

Gungaderra Homestead

Assuming we don't find a free venue, what, if anything, is a reasonable fee to charge people?

ANU is a bad example - they probably don't have to pay to use rooms at the uni.

$5 would be reasonable to me. You could make back some $$$ if you had an esky of cokes on sale for $1.

Other thing would be some sort of documentation of what would be done with 'profits'.

I thought about that. If the ANU club is student run, they could easily get a free room with a student ID. But is it? Do we have anything like that in north Canberra? Anyone go to U of C?

At $5/person, we'd need at least 10 people to cover 3 hours of gaming at the cheapest place I've found.

I think building a facebook page and advertising are great, but the most important thing is building a network of local north Canberra players. Not online, but with legwork and actual face time. Messaging people who have expressed interest here in the CNSG forum, meeting people, setting up individual games, and then turning that into a bigger database.

Who can host? Who needs a ride? Who has what Army? Who has enough terrain?

CNSG will likely have to exist in the aether for a while. While we search for a home, we can make progress by reaching out to people here on the forums. Invite new people for games. If you find another player, and neither has a table, come use mine! After the holidays, I'll be able to host a game almost every single day.

Thanks for digging in and doing some of the leg work Space.

For now the time being, the biggest focus is on getting regular games for everyone and, as you said, building up the face time. The more often we are getting games out here against a variety of opponents, the greater the need for a venue will become.

the idea of an esky/fridge for drinks is a good one for the long run.

End of the day, I highly doubt we will get a decent sized venue for free like the uni guys do but we WILL find somewhere to setup and make our little home, even if it means pinching a battle barge off someone :-P

I've gone the last two years. Not to play, I just sort of walked around looking at everything. This is the first year I've got an actual army, but I'm not ready for a tournament. I'm not familiar enough with the rules to bring in a game on time. I wouldn't want to be "that guy."

All that prefacing said, I'll definitely be there. I don't know if they have an area for pick up games or anything like that, but I'll come prepared just in case.

In fact, maybe it might be worth setting up a table or three so any prospective CNSG members could get together and game/meet?

Setting up a table? May have to ask the CGS if its okay as there run the show mate. But if you are there on the day come and say hello, I'll be playing 40K with a Death Korps of Krieg army.

I will definitely look into that. But if nothing else, Cancon will be a great opportunity to put faces to names and network a little.

Rob says you are the best painter in Canberra. Looking forward to seeing the Death Korps!

Hey gang,

I'm building my full size table tomorrow out here in Bonner, and I'm looking for someone to help me break it in.

Any Army! Any size!

Any takers?

Oh, by the way, for anyone who hasn't seen it, Canberra Northern Suburbs Gaming has a Facebook page!

With Cancon this weekend, how would everybody feel about a get together there on Sunday afternoon?

We can put faces to names, find out who's playing what and who's available on what days.

If Sunday's no good, we'll do it whenever is best for the most people. Several of you will be there for tournaments anyway, we'll just meet between games.

Would be great to meet up with you guys- although, I'm playing 40K at Cancon all weekend, so no idea what when where and how.

Are any of you participating in the 40K main event? If you see me (my name's Andrew Rowland) or spy my Blood Angels come say hi...

I'm going to be available for a load of gaming from February onwards (16 weeks off on Long Service Leave/Annual Leave-w00t!) and I'm in Dunlop which makes it easy to travel for a game.

Cheers,
Andrew

Bear in Mind ANU is planning to open up to gaming on a Sunday night as well as a Tuesday night (currently only Sunday Nights from 6pm to 12pm)

Might that be better without having to put money into renting a place when theres already a place availiable in the city?

Be aware that there is free parking on the w/e's and on week nights less than 30 meters from the rooms
