Winter War - 2012
Flames of War Competition 18th and 19th of August 2012 (9.30am start time) Auburn Bowls Club, 2B Munro Street, Hawthorn East, Melways Reference: 45 F11 9th of December 1940, Egypt: Tenente Colonnello Zanettin paced inside his command centre, recently liberated from the hands of a wealthy Egyptian. He was furious - His adjutant had just informed him that his personal stock of 1927 Chianti had just run out, and thanks to an English blockade, it was unlikely that he would be resupplied for days, maybe even a week! He slowly poured the last few precious drops out of a nearby bottle into a glass, swirling it before putting the glass to his nose and inhaling the rich aroma. It was at this moment that a monumental explosion somewhere nearby knocked him off his feet, smashing the glass and covering his immaculate uniform in what was left of the wine. Incensed beyond all reason, Tenente Colonnello Zanettin barked for his adjutant – he was not going to stand for this…this insult to his command, after all, how was any good Italian soldier supposed to fight a war under these atrocious conditions? 1750 point Early-War Army lists (see below for more info) must be provided by the 4th of August 2012 to Walter Spivak by email to winterwar@mondayknights.org.au This will be a Flames of War tournament consisting of 5 rounds, with 3 rounds played on day 1 and 2 rounds played on day 2. Each day will start at 9.30am, and rounds will be limited to a maximum of two and a half hours. Registration will start at 9.00am on Saturday the 18th of August. Painted 15mm figures accurately representing your force are to be used and games will take place on a 6’ by 4’ table. A Background for your force is not necessary but may be submitted; no more than one page is allowed. Cost of entry will be $30 for both days, or $15 if playing only on one day. Places will be limited to a maximum of 24 People. Priority will be given to players who can attend both days of the competition. The Third Edition Flames of War rules from Battlefront are to be used. All Version 3 compliant printed Intelligence Handbooks and official army list PDF downloads for the Early-War period will be allowed, except for superseded books and lists. If you are in doubt please contact the umpire. Five of the basic scenarios from the Third Edition Flames of War rules will be used during the two days, which will be chosen at random during the round draw, however no mission type (Defensive Battle, Mobile Battle or Fair Fight) shall be repeated more than twice. No scenario shall be repeated. Prizes will be awarded for Best General, Second Best General, Third Best General, Best Saturday General, and Best Painted Army. There will also be an encouragement award in place of the usual Best Sporting Player award. Generalship trophies are limited to a maximum of 1 per player. Scoring will be by a generalship score out of 30. The Best Painted Army award will be given out via a player voting system. Special Rules: Special characters are not allowed in Winter War 2012. Other Notes: Fair fight will be declared in defensive battle scenarios if Turn 8 has not been completed by both players when time is called (that is the game will be declared a draw, with players only scoring points for the amount of enemy platoons destroyed). At this point both players will be issued with a slow play warning. Should any player receive a second warning for slow play, their opponent will be automatically declared the victor and a 6-1 score will be recorded. If the umpire detects unsportsmanlike like behaviour by any player, a warning will be issued; a second warning will result in disqualification from the competition. |
