Lets see what I got up to over 2014:

I hosted several X-Wing competitions; Lightspeed continues to grow in popularity and is the biggest X-Wing gaming event in SA that I know of. I also found some new players for Dust which I still hope to become bigger in the state. I became president of Group North but that is mostly by being the only one to step forth. I did well in club and competition painting results and even got to play in the Malifaux Northern Breach comp. I enjoyed a day of gaming at Little Wars and had fun showing people Song of Baldes and Heroes at the Group North Open Day.

Miniature wise I bought a lot. Some of the kickstarters started to deliver. FFG had a mad sale of Dust stuff. I discovered WargameVault and PDF rules and went nuts. A lot of the games from there I got with the plan to re-use the old Warhammer mini's with. But then I decided I needed more miniatures to plug gaps. I bought Lion Rampant to use with my old Brettonians and end up getting some Perry Miniatures Men at Arms to give me more foot options (which can double up with Kings of War so that is a plus). I was hoping to get DBA 3.0 to breath life back into my old 15mm but that would cost to much for a hard-cover book, so instead I decided to try To The Strongest (which I've yet to read). X-Wing slowed down just as the pile of other stuff built up. Finally thanks to a sale of 20 year plus RPG material I bought Deadzone and some more Hasslefree Minis to make my Seven Sisters Song of Blades and Heroes warband.

Painting was a success this year. I started my Orc army just before Christams 2013 and finished them around July. This was a 1400 point Kings of War army where nothing was painted (despite being decades old), plus I added several more elements to it. I assembled the Drake miniatures (as detailed here) and painted some though at this point I have no specific game to use with them (maybe Songs of Blades and Heroes). I painted my Marcus Malifaux crew though I've still got some alternate sculpts of Marcus and Myranda to do. I painted a miniature for my nephew to try and convert him to wargaming and painted some figures from a board game we were playing at work. I also discovered Axles and Alloys and spent some time making road warriors from Hot Wheels and Matchbox.

I really started on terrain building this year. I made a pretty awesome terrain board and lots of paper craft buildings on it. Now I plan to build lots of them. They are relaxing though time consuming.

I didn't get a lot of new board games. Elevenses from Kickstarter and MilSims delivered Puzzle Strike 3rd Edition long after I forgot about it. I played a good variety at work. I started RPG again this year with Star Wars Edge of the Empire.

So for 2015

I'm running more X-Wing competitions. I may look at running a Kings of War competition after that Kickstarter delivers. I don't plan on buying more games this year as there is so much back log to work on. Armada will really tempt me though, and I'm still interested in Attack Wing D&D.

I realised I didn't paint any Dust during the year so I'll want to finish my Allies army (most of my opponents want to use Axis). I'll finish off the Drake miniatures as I don't expect to see any more delivered from that and want to be one of the few in the world to actually to have bothered painting them. I want to get Deadzone assembled and painted. I'm also planning on getting miniatures painted for Lion Rampant.

I'll continue with more of my terrain building. I really like doing that now. I plan to do the market square and church this year. Depending on how fast I go I may do the fishing village I wanted to do for ages.

Looking through the games played for 2014 I get

(Note the above list excludes games played in 2013 but not in 2014)

As can be seen my primary games at the club are X-Wing or Malifaux, followed in total by the Dust flavours. Kings of War, Song of Blades and Heroes and Force on Force bring up the remainder with a few board game plays in there.

I predict X-Wing will continue to be high and hope Dust grows to be more games. Kings of War will probably get a few more plays in the year and Song of Blades and Heroes will remain about the same (it is great for convention games, little be less so for pick up games). Force on Force is unlikely to be played again as I was using anothers rules and pieces for that. Star Wars Armada will get a few more plays. I don't know about Robotech, I suspect a play or two but we'll have to wait to see how that plays out (or even if it comes out to backers, they're to busy selling it to retailers now).

My gaming at Group North over the coming year will be more Field of Glory Ancients in 15mm, Field of Glory Renaissance in 28mm, DBA and a new project.

I am currently painting up a large number of 28mm figures for multiplayer games set in the Great War. Starting in late April: Australians, New Zealanders, British, Indians and French versus Ottoman Turks and Germans. These will be campaign games rather than skirmish games, so lots of figures, use of cards for events and a small amount of paperwork. I will be putting out a call for Group North players in April.
