I'll be down for 40k, new codex!

Rumor has it that it has invalidated my entire comp army, but silver lining: I can blow the dust off the rest of my smurfs and play a space Marine army.... That has space marines in it!

My new chaos army is almost ready for prime time as well smile.gif

Bags getting beaten by Fobbah! I’ll have mostly CSM, maybe a couple of Plaguebearers.

The new codex is very nice!

Guilliman has lost his full wound reroll, but this has allowed the introduction of many other mechanics and points reducitions that have benefited the faction as a whole, and he is no longer needed as an auto-take. Ultramarines are looking as scary as ever smile.gif

I am rushing to get some new units on to the table for next week...

Your heretic astartes aren't entirely left out and also all benefit from hateful assault as of yesterday:

Yeees, and ALL Ultramarines can fall back and shoot. Yay ;-)
Hopefully CSM gets some equivalent points reductions too! Another 20pts off land raider? Basic CSM to 12 pts?

If they were to get point drops I'd only see it happen in CA19 in December?

Chaos is probably the only faction where a Land Raider could possibly be a viable option at some point.(with points/additional rules adjustments)

They are bullet magnets, hard to hide, unlikely to be in ruins, it has to make most of its saves on a 5/6+ with what it'll be shot with. Apart from being a transport its effectivly loaded with 1 & half Dev/Havocs squad worth of weapons & for the roughly same(havocs)/less(Devs) points you can get 2 squads (4xLas, 4xHB) which gives you same las shots & double the bolter shots & they can hide/be in cover easier & Havocs don't take the Hit/Move penalty canceling out the LR rule.

Marine wise, they are always going to lose out to the Primaris stuff, Primaris>Tacticals & they can't carry Primaris. They obviously didn't get much of a tweak because new Tanks for primaris need to sell & drop pods got adjusted so they had to sit idol for now. Flamestorm cannon to 12" at least means a Crusader can overwatch charge range/put people off the charge completely.

& then there is the Custodes LR, granted it gets BS 2+ armata_PDT_34.gif & a 6+ FNP (super useful? huh.gif) for about 55 more (was about 35 points), used to have an Invul in 7th.. no more. Why oh why the in your face army didn't get access to Crusader/Redmeemer I'll never know as they'd be great even clearing chaff and still worked if they'd halfed the transport like the regular LR, they could've carried a 3-5 man squad with a character.
Put FW units into the fight (granted probably undercosted in Beta mode), but for less you can get a tranport with 1 extra body slot, better HB, Slighty weaker Las replacement (but it has wound rerolls & better AP), Fly & shortens charge range. OR the Heavy that has longer range better las (with wound rerolls), better HB, Fly & shortens charge range...both for way less points.

TLDR: Land Raiders bug the hell out of me....sorry rant over armata_PDT_04.gif

lol, think I touched a nerve! Of course, you are right tho.
An Ultramarine LR can fall back and shoot now, so that's something.
I think chaos could get 5+ FNP from psy but it's still a reach.
Sadface.

13 pt CSM and 5 pt cultists also make sad. Ah well, I'll just buy another Lord Discordant.

Just a 'little' one hahahaha (& oh yeah that's right I totally forgot to mention no shooting in combat or fall back because of a 2pt? Grot)

The Models are cool IMO & they are supposed to be fantastic warmachines they are just weak on the table beyond belief. Spend 500+ points to transport 5 Terminators in a LR & watch them die before they get anywhere/do anything on turn 1 or 2. (that's 90% of their gimmick & it doesn't really work)

Custodes have a stratagem for 2 LR Within 6" to ignore Neg Hit Mods, it'll only cost 660ish to use it or I could have 12ish more Guard ...hmmm which would survive longer? laugh.gif

CSM may drop & the fact the Chaos LR was the same price as a loyalist one I can't see why it wouldn't drop in next CA (unless there is chaos shenanigans I'm unaware of) Apart from Havocs I don't know what else it'd be up against for slots but as I said priced right I think Chaos may see it used more than anyone.

Land raiders are pretty poor, as are predators. Just too many points tied up in a unit without enough durability to really work. A shame, as they are fun models.

Ultramarine vindicators look good now as budget predators now that they do d6 shots + new UM trait of moving and shooting without penalty. With a 12" move up the board t1, they are still a credible threat as tank destroyers, and with 11 T8 wounds at 125 pts, pretty hard to shift. I think I will be experimenting with them.

It is a bit of a raw deal for chaos with csm 2.0, but i expect they will get points reductions in CA, and they did get disco lords which are one of the most competive units out there right now, and all your melee bruisers are that much better with effectively +1 attack. I hear the purge is pretty good too...

I'm excited to try the new drop pods at some point as an area denial tool... Too bad primaris can't come for the ride, so they will probably be empty hahaha

Err.... don't forget about Space Wolves armata_PDT_36.gif Blood Angels armata_PDT_01.gif and I suppose Dark Angels dry.gif that didn't get combat doctrines or the Intercessor Sgt Thunder Hammers.

Space wolves and blood angels benefit more than any other chapter from shock assault though.. +1 attack on a BA smash captain is no joke, and they didn't pay extra points for the thunder hammer like everyone else either. Same deal to a lesser extent with wolf priests. Without doctrines they are also free to mix in soup at no penalty. The essentially army wide +1 attack buff is huge on these melee focused chapters

Interesting, did they not get datasheet updates in the recent faq? They got the other new units.

I think they didn't get everything, but blood angels in particular should be very very happy already. Dark angels get the short end of the straw, and plasma is looking redundant now that codex chapters intercessors are rocking AP-2 from turn 2
