Hi guys!

Thanks a lot for the comments, greatly appreciated!

@ korocite

Cheers! I am glad you like it!

@ D_Arquebus

I did, many times! I wrote quite detailed post on MSU Elves for Warhammer and I always wanted to do something like that for Kings of War. I think it is matter of good planning at the moment. It is not something I would be able to do in one go, I would like to provide examples from real games for instance. But if I can dedicate a bit of time here and there on regular basis, it can eventually come to fruition.

Is there anything in particular you would like me to cover?

Thanks!

@ PFIEE

Great to know you are also playing KoW now! And I am glad you enjoy mine. I can tell you that at this stage I have no less but 5 battles to write about so watch this space! smile.gif

Well done on your own battle reporting! Please share the link to it when it's ready!

Thanks!

Hey Mate,

Good to hear! smile.gif

I suppose things like:

1) What you consider makes a KoW force MSU
2) What things you consider essential and in what proportion in the list. Such as Ranged, CC punch, Durability, Magic etc
3) What are the challenges to overcome vs other types of lists? eg Death Stars, other MSU, Horde.. etc
4) The best Magic boosts or buffs for the MSU approach smile.gif

These are the sorts of things I find interesting about the approach myself. Interested to hear the thoughts of a dedicated proponent of the art-form smile.gif

@ D_Arquebus

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I will definitely incorporate these in the post. Just please be patient as is not something that I can write with the same amount of time as a battle report.

I will most likely try to focus on Elves as well. While I think MSU style can be adapted by all factions, it will also take a specific form for each one of them. The variations will also depend on the player, if not mainly on hers/his approach to the game and army list design.

If you like we can keep the discussion going in the meantime.

Thanks!

Another good report, thanks for hard work in writing it up...

So i was wondering is there any chance you can pop the abbreviation next the unit in the army list.. ?

for example: 6 War Chariots(WC)

Hi PFIEE!

Thanks a lot for your comment, I am glad you like the report!

It is a very good suggestion. I think I simply forgot that for another player it may not necessary be that clear what is what. I will add this information in the following reports.

There is an option in Battle Chronicler to add descriptions for each unit during the deployment. However, when they are so close to each other, the captions overlap and are unreadable.

If there is anything else you noticed that may be useful for you as a reader, or in fact, any feedback, I would be very grateful for that!

Cheers!

Another good report, thanks for writing it up..

Thank-you for adding the abbreviation, to the army lists. biggrin.gif

Would have loved to see close ups of each army and more in action shots in the report. I know it’s not always possible, when there’s a set time limited per game.

@ PFIEE

Thanks! I am always happy to improve the reports and any feedback I get is always considered. It was a good point about the abbreviations so I was more than happy to include it!

Taking photos during the game at a tournament is tricky. I don't want to be too invasive and I try to ask if people are ok with me taking photos before the game anyway. In particular against the player I am about to play for the first time.

Hence I try to limit it to one photo at the end of the turn. In this way I do not distract them and I also show I pay attention to our game. However, I will try to take a few close ups whenever possible.

That is why I would love to have armies presentation when they are all assembles as if for painting competition. It can be done at bigger tournaments when that is part of the competition.

It is much easier done in casual games of course. If I happen to have one with real models any time soon, I will do my best to get more close ups as well. I'd better speed up painting some units! smile.gif

Hi PFIEE,

Thanks for your comments!

In the second game my opponent was indeed reluctant to move forward. Unfortunately, it is rare to have enough time in between the games to chat about the battle that has just finished. So I can only speculate why he chose to be more conservative in his movement.

In general, it seemed like I had a bit of an advantage in speed and maneuverability. Nobody wants to have units such as Drakons behind their lines. In order to prevent that you either keep the distance, engage with these units with your own fliers (as they are fast enough to intercept) or create double line formation.

Nick had some fliers but could not intercept all my flying units. He also had fewer elements in total, which means he would need to further narrow the frontage to create double line formation. May be a problem in itself as it makes outflanking by the enemy easier.

Because the scenario was about having more combined unit strength in the center by the end of the game, being conservative may actually work. With so much regeneration across the army, Nick could afford to take some damage from shooting and still have healthy units to enter the center late in the game.

This is why I think Nick chose to wait and see how the game evolves instead of moving forward. Having said that, there is no single path to victory so I wonder myself how more aggressive approach would work. Perhaps we will find out if we have a chance for a rematch!

As to the last game I wish I had records of the dice rolls smile.gif It is not to deny that sometimes the rolls were not exactly on the average. But it often pays off to review what were the exact chances for a success in particular situation.

For example, frontal charge by Awoken Guardians can be quite powerful. However. they hit and do damage on 4+ against Forest Shamblers. As these are -/14 nerve, the odds are that they actually survive that charge, especially with the inspiring presence nearby.

On the other hand that charge of Glen's Storm Wind should have taken down the Drakon Lord. I wanted to go for an exchange like that because I could claim the objective first and then have counter attack with my own cavalry. It was unlucky that Glen did not manage to rout my Drakon Lord but I would rather question if the charge itself was the best option here for him.

While dice play an important role in this game, I found it much more beneficial to take into account the unlikely outcomes, whenever possible. This is what I learned from the best players. Somehow even if they roll a lot of double 1's on the nerve checks, they still win! smile.gif

Cheers!
