I've registered for everything. Gotta say, they've done a Sensible Thing with the shadow figures. It's exactly the sort of thing to get me off my rear end and registered to play.

I wonder why we have more for these events than we do for Arc which has the better prize support. It may be because you don't have to rego for Arc to get your shadow figure (though that might be an issue soon), or it might be because it is an all day thing, or on a bad weekend.
Either way, it gives me some hope for at least 12 for Arc. Just curious as to why the sealed event for the I Chomp NY preview. I don't think that there will be boosters available then for this set, or am I wrong there. This post has been edited by Dr Corey: Dec 24 2008, 05:30 AM |

Because Arc is for pimps and GG events are for... non pimps ?

I've registered for the first event only, to see how it goes getting there on time.
Not thrilled with the event schedules. 5:15 Wednesdays is a pretty inconvenient time for me to get to the city, especially since it involves leaving work early. Oh, to be a carefree, Carlton-living uni student again.... |

We will see how things go after the first tourney - we may have some flexibility with the time but I wanted to make sure we can complete the tourney within reasonable hours and before Good Games closes for the night. Although it states a 5:15pm start, it will most likely officially start at 5:30pm - 15 minutes to register, pay tourney fees etc - Shadow Figs will be given to pre-reg players after round one. With up to 16 players, 4 round swiss is probably the most viable option. Each round will be 50mins with a 10 minute break. Given it will be the first tourney, I may go with 60 mins per round (have not decided yet) - this will mean the tourney finishes at 5:30pm + 4*1h + 4@10mins which will mean a finishing time of 10:10pm. The last 10 minutes is for the presentation of the major prize and any required administration work.
I will call on some of the more experienced players to help with rules clarification (ie. as judges) and even assist in some admin if required. |

I would seriously have a think about whether it is worth going for 4 rounds. 3 on a week night is much more realistic, finishing at 9-9.30. There will not be an issue with prizes if you end up with 2 people with 3 wins each as there are basically two 1st place prizes, rather than a 1st and a second.

Didn't really mean to bad mouth the schedule so much. I appreciate the effort put in to run it and prize support and I hope its a success.
Just grumbling that it will be tricky for anyone not already in the city (with a job |

I guess we can try for 3 round swiss - it does mean that there is a likelihood that we get 2 people with 3 wins and 0 losses. In which case, it will have to result in count backs on live forms and possibly damage. I'll think on it some more and chat with Russ about it. With 3 rounds, we can probably start effectively at 6pm (hopefully better for working people) for a 9:30pm finish which suits me great as I have work the next day.

(sigh) I guess I'm probably in the minority demographic of players anyway I suspect you're only in the minority in the WAU posting public, other people are obviously buying stock, so there's bound to be a player base out there who can't make this kind of schedule. -------------------- |[TENABRAE]|40k|[Hive Fleet Dryad]|[Feral Angels]|infinity|[Yu Jing]|alkemy|[Aurlock Nation]|

There will be just as many problems anyway determining second place even if only one person finishes with 3 wins. The problem is that we have two prizes, and the only way this will work out nicely is if we have exactly 16 players, play swiss chess pairs for 3 rounds and we don't get any draws. I think a 9.30 finish on a weeknight is the only realistic way to go, as too many people will have to work the next day. I could do it a couple of times, but when we have 5 tournaments in a 9 week period, it will get to be too much if I am regularly getting home at midnight and waking up at 6.30. |

I could do it a couple of times, but when we have 5 tournaments in a 9 week period, it will get to be too much if I am regularly getting home at midnight and waking up at 6.30. I spoke to Russ and he's pretty flexible about how we structure the rounds so we will go with 3 rounds for a 6pm start (start registering from 5:45pm). I have updated the events to reflect this. As for the prizes, I want to hand out only one Mega per tourney as the first prize. The second Mega will used for either for unsanctioned tourneys or as rewards to those who help build the MonPoc community (which is my preference). For example, I was thinking of awarding one to the person who successfully introduces the most number of people to MonPoc ie. it must result in the new individual buying a starter so it should be easy to measure. I really don't want the Megas to go exclusively to just the most competitive players who do nothing but just turn up at tourneys and beat the snot out others to get the Mega prize. After all the second Mega in each kit was not even intended to be a competition prize anyway. Also, let me be upfront in saying that I intend to keep one Mega (of my choosing) for myself (not one from each kit, just one) as some recompense for managing all the events and tournaments for the Rise set. Russ has pretty much left the running of the MonPoc events to me which means I will be coordinating the tourneys, sending the results etc... This means I will get one Mega for organising and running tourney kits 2 to 6 (since we missed kit 1) and the pre-release for I Chomp NY. When the new set comes up, I welcome anyone willing and able to take this responsibility from me, and they will receive the same reward for their efforts. If fact, with my second child due early April, I may not even have any choice in the matter Additional: I have managed to negotiate with Russ that the $5.00 tourney MonPoc fee for the first tourney (an possibly others but not confirmed) on Jan 14th will also give each player $5.00 credit on the day to the purchase of any MonPoc product (ie. Starter, Booster or Map Pack) - the discount must be used up that night or it expires and no further discounts on the discounted item. Russ believes in supporting the gamers who support GG and is keen on growing & promoting MonPoc. This post has been edited by Zor-Raiden: Dec 26 2008, 06:55 PM |

I don't think anyone would begrudge you keeping one for your efforts or offering them for altruistic purposes.
I think the best answer is that if there are 2 players left on 3 wins then either they stay there alone to duke it out, or come back on the Thursday or Friday for the final game. hat way the bulk of people will play 3 games and be content and we will narrow it down to a final winner eventually. |
