Now I don't play Grey Knights, but I was reading the codex and something occurred to me.

Given the sheer number of GK players at tournaments, and well psykers in general, why don't more GK players include a witch hunter inquisitor with psyocullum? Stick him in a really shooty unit (which is basically any GK unit) and enjoy some BS 10 goodness!

Really this question is just for the sake of my own curiosity, and as a whole I am trying to understand other codex's better so I can competently go up against them.

Thanks

too much competition for the slot, and some of the wargear options are different.

They're starting to see some use, espeially to make deadly accurate blast weapons (eg plasma servitors).

The HQ slot is hotly contested in the GK dex tho.

Fair point. I just thought they seemed to bring rediculous benefits for their price. Although against DE, BT's, Tau, Necrons, Possibly a few marine lists...... ok point taken.

That being said, would taking one get you a better comp score over taking a GM or Libby (assuming those are the two popular HQ choices)

They do have some very potent uses. I havent played with it yet but a unit of 8 jokero with 4 acolites for exra wounds with a psyocculum nul rod inquisitor would make like the best anti GK unit ever. Hitting with 8 lascannons on thier land raider or on thier pallie unit is very strong and i think you can even block line of sight using rhinos and other infantry to keep them alive.
In the worst case scenario its 8 lascannons which never go astray

Null rod also grants some pretty decent protection from certain units but it has limited uses.

I wouldn't bother with a null rod, just so that you can stick him in a GK squad and still be able to benefit from psychic powers.

But yes, that unit would make Hive Tyrants cry mwahahah!

There are times when it really helps, If you have say a unit of pallies or purifiers and you come up against a multiple jaws army or multiple mind war or something like that.

That squads also over 300pts. And unable to benefit from the roll at the start of the game.

The ability is basiclly usless who cares. You buy the unit for the lascannons not the ability.

It is a 300pt + unit but that unit will kill 4 or more pallies a turn, will comfortably kill a GK vehicle a turn and has a good chance of killing mephiston in one crack. If they have a transport with a unit containing an important psyker then the unit will easily crack the transport then next turn be hitting with 8 las cannons a turn which will cause many wounds.
A lash prince becomes barely usefull with a null rod and cannot show its face or it dies.

If a big horde gets close they can jump in a rhino and nest turn unleash 8 heavy flamers on it which lets be honest will rape any horde.

im not saying its the best thing in the codex, not by a long shot but it does serve a function for an army that can otherwise weak to the things that unit is strong against.

I wouldn't advise the use of the 10x jokaero, but I think my point about the inquisitor is valid. As a cheap enhancement for an existing squad, I think it has the potential to be really useful.

Yea you can give similar power to a unit of purifiers with 4 cannons or a 10 man termi unit but dont underesitmate the 10 monkes hitting 35/36 times.
