Here's a preview of the new, Hi Res Southern Sky Star Mats.

IPB Image

The more observant among you will notuice there has been some change to the line up.

Southern Cross is out and a new two-part Milky Way Galaxy is in.

Why? Since these are actual pictures taken through our atmosphere by the good folk at Macarthur Astronomical Society, their is an inherent degree of noise. The further the object the greater this is. The next factor is, the Universe has a lot of stars in it. As Carl Sagan was fond of saying, billions & billions. This means that the more that you zoom in on something, the more faint objects that you will also see.

The Southern Cross image is a good example of this.

The other motivation was to satisfy the demand for big games of X-Wing.

The two images that I have cunningly named Milky Way 1 & Milky Way 2 match together to form one large 6ft x3ft play area. The newly tweaked images used give some nice colurs of the various emission spectra up in our sky.

Eta Carina is also from a whole new image, so looks pretty amazing.

Your old favourites Tarantula Nebula and Small Magellanic Cloud have also had some pre-press tweaks

They are with the printer now!!!

I should be able to give a definitive delivery date tomorrow night!
