Im thinking of running Lysander as the commander of my Gun Line type Red Scorpions. From my understanding of his Bolter Drill special rule, is that it only applies to the unit he is with (I dont have my Codex with me so I cant double check). Is this correct?
Wondering how you guys work with him? With a unit of Terminators? A unit of Tactical marines with Heavy Bolter to get more use out of his special rules? Something crazy and wacky a nub like me could not even think of? Or am I looking at this completely wrong? Cheers CD |

Lol forgot about those guys, just take them stock standard to make the most of his rule? Does Lysander give the Sternies a little dont charge this unit or its cobbering time? Or is he just an idiot at the back with a hammer? Well Cpt.Lysander cost 200pts and 10 man sternguard will be 250pts (base), there is no two way's about it that unit is gonna be shot all to hell in the opponents shooting phase. But there are several tactic's you can use to increase their chance of survival. As for 'fear factor' they would pose no more threat than a (Space Wolves) long fang unit with Logan. R. |

I'd say either in a terminator unit or hopping around between some Tactical Squads is the way to go, depends on your list really. He makes a great assault deterrent.

At first I was planning for him to go into a Terminator unit with an Assault Cannon. Then I thought the 10 man unit of Tactical Marines with a heavy Bolter might work better.
The 10 man Sternguard does sound rather tasty tho. Would a 5 man unit back with Lysander and a 5 man Vanguard Vets behind it work? Kinda a heavy point sink for a counter charge unit tho? Im still yet to have a full game of 40k so kinda more theoryhammering it. This post has been edited by CursedDice: Apr 21 2011, 12:47 PM |

I used him with Terminators in a LRC. Bolter Drill, Bolstaer Defences (for scouts) plus the fact that Sanders can abosrb AP1/2 almost made it woth not having assault terminators instead.

Can you explain what you mean by the almost. Still trying to work out the ins and outs of things. If hes attached to a unit that is prodominately firing is he being fully utilised? Or am I hoping that Bolter Drill will be too good for a gun line army? Guess after that musing probably should stick him in a unit that is going to do the most shooting with bolters or their ilk? |

I keep him with my tactical squads. The re-rolls on bolters is ok, but he makes them unchargeable if you want to live. Keep him back as a threat in the centre of you rgunline, then run out and engage anything scary that comes near it.

Lysander is extremely good for what you pay for.
He goes well anywhere, the suicide sternguard drop pod is awsome and guaranteed to kill something big (ctan, carnfex's etc etc) but they do get shot up the following turn.. thats not to say thats bad, cause lysander will survive and battering ram his way (slowly) thru anything. He can be used well both offensively and defensively there isnt much one on one thatll best him, just throw him into the biggest badest MC/elite unit you can find and let him munch away at it. |

Just not Pariahs (in the exceptionally rare event someone takes them). You shoot those with the AP3 rounds (or anything else in your army really).

Cool cheers for everyones opinions and views on how they use and abuse him.
Looks like I will have to play around with some lists. Also looks like i might convert my Commander Cullin into Lysander. Except I will make a Scorpion shield for him. Thanks all CD |

I'd use him offensively as it will at the minimum draw a massive amount of fire power off of your approaching marines.

Just not Pariahs (in the exceptionally rare event someone takes them). You shoot those with the AP3 rounds (or anything else in your army really). 2+ to wound still works out better, T5, cover if cron player is not a retard see's 5's to wound get watered down a fair bit. lysander should never find himself within 12" of pariahs anyway unless everything in your army is positioned to shoot them. only retards take pariahs anyway so it's not really that much of an issue. as far as it goes if you want to create a big bugger off unit then 10 termies with storm bolters and powerfists with either cyclones or assault cannons and lysander attached is about as good as it gets. kill anything with shooting that may pose a problem in assault and make use of cover to water down any incoming shooting. lysander is a big problem for the majority armies, just be smart with how you use him. -------------------- i promise to wear a kilt to a tourney if people stop calling me Welsh, Irish or English.

take him in a 10 man 2cyclone unit. he is an obsorber for instant kill (MM. las) hits til he gets to 2 wds and then they assualt after 2-3 rounds of reroll stormbolters+frag...
I use it in an all bike army as the (telporting reserve) to scare people from assaulting crappy bikes. even good h2h has to think twice with lysander in the second row read to base one guy and put 3-5 str10 wounds on them... If there is enough cover you just move up from deployment shooting as you go. I run him with sternguard + PF and a librarian in a pod. Null zone + special ammo + re-rolls + not keen to charge makes it one of the nastiest surprises you can have coming down in turn 3 or 4. Kills any big target with invuls pretty hard.
