Have a cheap-as, bog-standard xenos =][= (25 point HQ's FTW) but after buying a Chimera, a couple of strike squads of Grey Knights and a Psyfleman I wanted to know if a) its worth spending the 15 points on either and b) which flavour to go for.
Rads seem like a pretty simple choice (combined with hammerhand) to go after high toughness units. But with the limited attacks of my GKs, is it better to use the opponent nerfing qualities of the Psycho nades to reduce an opponents attacks on me? Thoughts? -------------------- Mike: I had to dress up as an elderly Israeli woman once.

Rads seem like a pretty simple choice (combined with hammerhand) to go after high toughness units. But with the limited attacks of my GKs, is it better to use the opponent nerfing qualities of the Psycho nades to reduce an opponents attacks on me? Thoughts? Rad are pretty good but it really isn't too different to an extra hammer hands, the difference is rad allow for easier instant deathing but only will work the firstround of combat unlike hammerhands which you canm always attempt to cast. Psychotroke on the other hand give you something your army does not already posses. essentially no matter what combat you are facing the outcome can be decided on a dice roll.psychtrokes ar random and while annoying there is an advantage to that, if an enemy charges you or ets charged by a unit with these grenades he cannot actually quantify what the result will be. This means he can never know that a combat will work out in his/her favour. Psychotrokes will generally add a good edge for you're unit in combat but sometimes they will just ryuin your opponent, and i don't mean kill a few models I mean cause devistatingly 1 sided fights. if you rol a 2 against an opponent 99% of the time whatever you are attacking will lose combat horribly. against many opponents int 1 will screw them against psychers ld2 will also winning combat when someone is ld 2 means they are running! intiative checks for the unti can be a mixed bag but if theya re low int that really hurts or if again theya re psychers that have been reduced to i1 thanks to your psykout grenades as well! Personally I would go with the psychotrokes. I like to think I am a good player and win games off skill however I ahve had victories handed to me or made much easier for by these grenades many many times. for reference i take both grenades however the psychotorke would easily be my choice if i could only pick 1. Yeah that's what i was thinking Crynn. Some of the results of the psychs are just awesome. I've already got the ability to take out high toughness units with HH and force weps.
I figured psychs are going to allow me to keep up my shooting emphasis but with the ability to punish something that charges me, or shift something from an objective when i need to. If I was running DCAs i can see rads being good, but i aint. -------------------- Mike: I had to dress up as an elderly Israeli woman once.

+1 psyckotrope. (15pts of nastiest force multiplier in the game.).
Rad is only fun on Arcoflaggellants with titans (+hammerhand back up) and an Libbi for Init10.... This post has been edited by Blackhearts Reaver: May 1 2012, 12:52 PM -------------------- Run local tourneys, Make terrain. 75,000+ pts...Play 1-3 games a week...(40K,BFG,BB,FoW).

Rad grenades are consistent and you will know what you are getting each and every time. But so will your opponent.
Psychotroke are awesome too, but depending on what is being charged / charging not all of the results are useable. So the effectiveness isn't 100%. -------------------- |

Rad=offense measure.
Psy=defensive measure. Protecting your slower moving hammer unit from faster selective enemy assaults? psy is your grenade. unloading out of a suicide raven with nasty unit+2IC and support dread... maybe rad!!!!!!!!! -------------------- Run local tourneys, Make terrain. 75,000+ pts...Play 1-3 games a week...(40K,BFG,BB,FoW).

At 750 points psy is definitely the right choice if you only get to choose one. Especially if you aren't running any unit with multiple attacks to stick the rad guy in. Psy can work just fine just hanging out with regular dudes.
I'm running both at 750 -------------------- "shirty, the slightly aggressive bear"

I'm running both at 750 you're going leaner on troops though. my army is first and foremost shooty. psychs are just there to give survivability to one squad of GKSS.
