Ok this is a bit of an experiment and Im quite open to suggestions from players as to how this can be run. I'll start by saying that this tournament will be all about match wins. With cash involved sportsmanship, Army comp and painting can be a bit biased so it wont be included. Im hoping players can still play in a friendly manner even if sportsmanship is not included.

Ive decided to make the date the same as Conflict, not to "conflict" with this event but I feel that the players not attending Conflict will be the type of players interested in this tournament. Also there aren't many free dates in April. Happy to move if GW has a problem with it. Some early details:

1500 points, 4 rounds.
Players: Maximum 16-18
Location: Good Games, Level 1, 857 George St Sydney
Prizes: 1st Prize $100 cash, 2nd and 3rd 40k product. Best terrain prize.

We will need a minimum of 10 players to get this going. Please post with any concerns otherwise show up and win some cash!!!

Payment can be made in store or by Direct Credit to the following account:

bsb 082024 acc 798119763
Good Games PTY LTD
NAB

Please use W40k April as the reference and your name.

Wont this run into gambling laws issues if you hand out cash prices. I remember vaguely that when this idea was presented previously someone pointed out that the law would probably consider 40k a game of chance and hence if you pay money towards getting a monetary prize you may encounter some gambling issues, not that a prize of $100 should attract to much scrutiny....

I'll double check on the gambling laws aspect, as far as Im aware its fine but Ill make sure before this goes ahead. Besides theres no luck in 40k smile.gif

cost will still be $20 per head. If this is successfull then we will certainly run more.

Make the entry form's into a guessing competition. Thats how most sporting clubs get around that sort of thing.

I'm in, chance to ruin the new DA Codex smile.gif

Conflict schmonflict, I'd be surprised if we can't find at least 10 players to come along (Im not going to conflict for one).

Hmm, three weekends of gaming fun... Necro, Leviathon, then Conflict/this... will be a busy April.

Would imagine it runs undetr same laws that allow cash prizes for card game events... Gambling is when you get a monetary benefoit from every game, not a prize for the overall winner - do Sporting events or Duplicate Bridge championships need a gambling licence? Of course not!

I think that I would prefer a prize rather than cash, for several reasons.

1. GW prize support normally means that you'd get more than $100 value for the $100 outlay.

2. A model you can keep for ever, and intimidate your opponents with in future games
(eg. "this model I'm deploying now was part of a prize for winning XYZ)
Cash will disappear the next time you go to the supermarket or your wife or kids go to your wallet

3. Somehow playing for money rather than fun or fame seems wrong to me.

However, I suspect family commitments will stop me from getting there anyway so feel free to ignore the above.

Thanks for the input Mark. This type of tournament wont be something that I would run all the time but I like the idea of mixing it up a little bit. There will still be non cash prizes as well.

As far as deck lists go, anything goes from the current lists.

I would actually prefer prizes over cash as well, but I'm keen to see what happens when you have a cash prize and to pitt my skills in what I suspect will be a much tougher environment.

Besdies $20 entry fee, approx $60 petrol, $15 parking plus 3 meals, I'd be better off staying at home for the day moneywise smile.gif

You know, you could always just spend the prize money on GW stock right away, before anyone else gets their grubby little mits onto it. : biggrin.gif

Just a thought Paul,

There is no reason (prize availibility aside) why you couldn't still have best painted, best army, best sports or what ever as well, you just don't count thoes points towards overall first place.

Also just wondering/hopeing what the missions are going to be, were your planning on a striaght fight (I hope not) or haveing some challengeing missions thrown it.

Last thing we(or maybe just me) want is it being a straight who has packed the most heavy weapons into their army and wins the roll for first turn kind of deal.

Definetly want a mixture of missions and will post them up once I have made a decision. Im pretty sure I will award a best painted regardless but as you mentioned it wont effect the actual tourney.

I have to say the whole idea of a cash prize, as wella s the gaming, is the main pull fr me to this tourny. Getting ANY kind of money back from a tournament would really help my hobby. Its all going to back into another army anyway. A special figure, or award is cool and all. But I cant swap those for figures (unless you can get me some blank golden demons and a cheap inscriber)
