Guys, this is getting pretty off topic.

The Knight codex ruling is very straightforward.

We had ruled out Escalation because Superheavy and Lord of War units we felt was not appropriate for the event; the Knight being Superheavy, and also having D weapon traits, and special rules not available to any other army has made it fairly straightforward to not allow them along with Escalation. That is that.

At the end of the day, the ATC is NOT normal 40k. There are restrictions on the armies you can take well above that of normal 40k, and if you want to play a games of 40k with no limitations and your Knight Codex, there are plenty of avenues to do so. At this stage, the Knight codex does not align with how we want the event to run and how teams are made up, so until a further point in time where things like Knights are common and the normal type of unit, they will not be allowed. Next year we will obviously revise all restrictions once again.

Baselining the ruleset six months in advance was all well and good when codex releases tended to be six months apart. That is no longer the case and the ruleset evolves on a monthly basis. Plus the game has had some significant changes in superheavies, D weapons, etc. By locking down the ATC ruleset so far out you will end up with a unique tournament metagame that is significantly out of touch with the rest of 40k. You may as well just play 5th Ed at ATC, that's how relevant the "ATC meta" will be by July.

ATC 2014: Proving how awesome your state is at playing 2013 vintage 40k, yeah baby!

I would argue that makes it all the more important to establish the base level the event will be running with. With everything changing frequently now, it's important that people have the time to factor in the changes while developing their team.

While I understand the stance, considering;

The main intent behind the event is actually to help fund an Australian team to go to the European Team Championships.

Shouldnt the focus of the events baselining be aligned with what is happening on an international level and more specifically the European Team Championships? Does anyone know what stance these tournaments are taking overseas?

It seems a little counter intuitive to create a ruleset/restricted tournament which may be completely different to that which the ETC is using. If they are going to incorporate Knights and other such supplements then the teams which compete at the national level in preperation for the ETC should be building and playing lists with those supplements in mind?

I think that line might be a relic from a former era's player pack.

Last year we didn't get a team to ETC for 40k, and we have never managed to raise funds from the ATC to put towards it either.

Cool, fair enough then.
