I'm getting damn sick of the GW paint pots. The lids never open properly, they dry out and get chunks in them which makes it a pain to put them through the airbrush and you end up with a lot of wastage. I'm starting a new force, and I'm thinking this is a good time to switch brands. I've heard good things about the Vallejo range, but my local store doesn't stock them.
So to cut to the chase, who are the best online retailers for Vallejo paints? -------------------- Why is "abbreviated" such a long word?

Depends where you're based; postage can be a bastard. If you're in NSW, go have a look at Combat Company. If you're in QLD, go to Irresistible Force. NFI on the other states, sorry.
Also, if you're airbrushing, go and look up the Vallejo Air range. They're designed to run through the airbrush so should work well. Lastly, don't lock out P3 either. They use liquid pigments, so in theory (and JUST in theory mind you as I haven't tried it) it should actually flow better through an airbrush with standard thinning. You'd have to get other opinions though. Cheers! Borzag -------------------- Mate I'll pay MONEY to sit there and watch Jose get Whupped..Never seen someone lose which such style! Vallejo aren't necesasrily the cat's pyjamas for airbrushing - the dropper is handy, but the first coupel of drops aren't necessarily perfectly mixed and uniform. You also do get some dried paint around the nozzle.
Get marine stainless ball bearings to drop in to help mix. This post has been edited by Blind Pig: Jun 11 2012, 09:26 PM -------------------- QFT of the week:

The Vellejo Air range ARE good for airbrushes as they are mixed specifically for airbrushes
give the bottle a good shake, drip straight into your brush reservoir, spray. I am using them right now, saves heaps of time and waste with not having to mix, thin etc. in general I very much like the V paints, I guess only issue with ordering online is that paint can obviously weigh a bit if you are going to buy several bottle so postage could get expensive. -------------------- Armies

I grab Vallejo Air through Phoenix Forge.
Use them for brushwork, too. I do a lot of white so Foundation White is amazing. Painting metallics straight on with a brush gives amazing silvers. -------------------- Adventures in Army Painter Soft Tone:

Didn't know that Luke was stocking paints now... yeah, this one's a good stockist too He always has? But it was only P3 and GW. As for putting P3 paints through an airbrush, them having liquid pigments do help, however I do find that require a little bit more thinning than a standard paint, and you have to make sure they are rather well mixed. So agitator is helpful, plus use a matte medium or airbrush medium to thin rather than water. -------------------- *wanders into the room with a south american quadruped* who ordered the dramallama? The model air range is the ducks guts for airbrushing, just watch the dry paint around he tip as noted. Gd they make life easy! Any of the sponsors should be good, I usually go for the Combat Company as they are close and I often get some random bitz at the same time.

Maybe it's just me, but I could not find a vallejo model air set (71170) on any of those websites;
- On Alpha Hobbies I can only see 6 individual paints, or mantic sets. - On TheCombatCompany, it seems I can only buy each model air paint individually, they don't sell the set? - Phoenix Forge only appears to have a section for P3 or Citadel paints. I've been thinking about getting a set for ages now, and probably aren't going to impulse spend $200-$300 on a set right now - rather put them on my Christmas list, but it would be nice to at least know they're readily available locally. Or at least that those stockists that are sponsors have them listed on their websites. If this thread didn't exist, and I *was* about to get a set, then I'd have gone (or if I was getting them as a present, would have directed my family) to overseas stores, because I'd assume that none of the sponsors sold them. Just saying. |

Bec, he's asking if someone sells the whole kit (with the briefcase), not just the whole range of individual paints. Having said that, if you were to ask nicely, and given the volume you're after, Combat Company or IF might do you a deal on the whole kit & caboodle. You might not get the storage box though. -------------------- Mate I'll pay MONEY to sit there and watch Jose get Whupped..Never seen someone lose which such style! Exactly. And I would like to have the case; my current paint set is still in the AusPost box it came in years upon years ago. The cardboard is getting a bit frayed around the edges. I'll check back closer to Christmas assuming I'm still thinking that way, as I'm not really down with suggesting a present for myself, then saying "oh, but to get it you'll have to either order 72 paints individually or possibly talk to the owner for a deal" especially if I know I can point them to the whole package elsewhere. |

Could be worth asking if of of these guys can get them in; I mean they already have a channel out to Vallejo. Unless they see it as repeat business though it could be exi.
Question: does Gaming Dragon still sponsor this site? I know they used to carry a while pile of paints, maybe it's worth checking. If not, Bec please feel free to edit this post and remove the reference. -------------------- Mate I'll pay MONEY to sit there and watch Jose get Whupped..Never seen someone lose which such style!
