They certainly have a star craft flavour to them.

Marines are GWs bread and butter. These are nice models and will drive sales for them, which is all that really matters. It's the same issue as always. They need people to be buying new models regularly.

Marines in their current form have been around since 2000. Everyone has a few lying around (except Krefey, he has none), so their value is low. It's much easier to jump into a BSS thread and get a squad then going to GW.

Can't say I'm a fan of the assault/centurion/terminator/flying magic girl/Michelin man Inceptors.

There's a picture of them from the back - I think it is just the weapons that look goofy. I'll either remove the guards, or perhaps they'll look better with the guards not painted blue. I hated them at first, but the rear view makes me look forward to seeing them in real life.

Letting them die out is disappointing though, they had such an awesome range built up over the years and cross compatability between kits was excellent.

I think it's fine. Heads, weapons and backpacks will be broadly compatible still and those are the main bits of bling that exist. I'm sure that within a few years we'll have a whole new range with excellent compatibility for you to play with. They also aren't removing the 20+ years of small marines from existence so you can still play with them all you like.

Suspect they'll be like the whfb range, still usable but not best at what they do.

I like the regular guys, Im not so sure about the jumpies.

Its like they gave design of them to the one guy who ever made seraphim work and he worked on a template of 'bigger' with 'bigger guns'

I do like the look of them (they make me think of mobile infantry) but I guess its bye bye grimdark for sure. Primaris would look weird with skulls.

Maybe new grimdark is about bells. I call the big one Bellamy.

No skull encrusting is a point in favour. Maybe the Space Wolves and Blood Angels Primaris troops wont have "HEY LOOK WOLVES/VIKINGS/VAMPIRES" sculpted all over them 😀

New toys are good. Either way by the looks of those Plague Marines the days of compatible SM/CSM kits are drifting away anyhow so might as well embrace the sweet megamans.

Why would they not? That's the whole point of having variant models, otherwise you can just paint normal dudes red.

I'm sure the non-starter guys will be interchangable, everything else in the whole GW range is interchangable.

In love with the new marines. Awesome to see the grimdark skulls bon every inch of armour is fading away. The jump jet lads are sweet! I live that their armour is designed for their utility, looks way cooler then just a marine with a jet pack slapped on their back.

You can have a theme without screaming it at the top of your lungs and encrusting every spare centimetre of space with it. The 3rd ed Wolves with the upgrade frame were awesome.

Well for those of you that don't browse Bols as well:

Index Imperium 1: Space Marines, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Grey Knights, Deathwatch, Legion of the Damned

Index Imperium 2: Astra Militarum, Adeptus Mechanicus, Imperial KNights, Imperial Agents, Talons of the Emperor

Index Chaos: Heretic Astartes, Chaos Daemons, Questor Traitoris

Index Xenos 1: Craftworlds, Drukarii, Ynnari, Harlequins, Necrons

Index Xenos 2: Orks, Tau Empire, Tyranids, Genestealer Cults

What the hell is Questor Traitoris? (Chaos AM? any Lore historians/book readers seen anything in the fluff?)
I would have put Tau in with eldar stuff and necrons in the Orks/Nids/ GSC.... But then I guess they want to sell 2 books to all the cheesemongers....

and Custodes/SoS get their own book officially...

Also can someone refresh my knowledge on where the Ynnari sit in the eldar ? I stopped buying the books before the triumvirates..

Someone mentioned on another forum about vehicles not having front/side/rear armour means that vehicles will be moving sideways across the battlefield lol.

It was a bit of a trick a few editions ago (with risks) but if there is no weaker side/rear armour than the sideways mobile bunker sounds like it works smile.gif

24 armies... Yikes.

It really has grown hasn't it.... I can remember when there was only about 11.

EDIT a quick Wiki search makes Questor= some kind of Auditors (lol) or (more probably) Chaos Titans/daemon engines.... boo Traitor Guard would have been so much better.

This. The Questor word is used in regards to Imp Knights, so odds are it will be traitor Knights.

wow missions and Orks are up:

- Holding objectives = The most models within 3" of an objective (hordes FTW....)
Measure from the centre of the objective. 3"r `~28" of area
What does that equate to in 32mm bases i wonder....
Is this why there was a specification for bases.

It looks like they did the least work on missions. Rehashing and tweaking what has come before.
The maelstrom deck has has an adjustment..... lol.

They seem to be banking a lot on these Command points balancing out slightly uneven playing fields and making things a bit more interesting. On the information so far I dont really see it...... It seems a little to gimicky. The few stratgems we have seen seem useful but i dont think they will turn the tide if a game if you have started 10-30 points worth of units behind (remembering a Rubriic Marine squad was 8 points for example)

A few rerolls or Bigger detection radius, or A redraw for a Maestrom card. are not going to make up the difference of a 2-3 unit deficit over (what was say a 1850 pt game~ 10-14 units)

Only War (basic mission)
Each player set ups 2 objective (10" >apart).
Then roll off. Highest rolls on the mission table:
- 2vp per objective +1d3 for Warlord (hoardes FTW)
- Randomise 1 of the 4 objectives (6VP) rest are removed. (Lady luck FTW....).
- Bean counter mission on objectives.... (Eldar and hordes FTW).. yerkkkkk.... bean counter.... (sure it is quirky for 1/5 missions at a tourney to maybe run it.... but 1/3 of all missions beancounter..... lists will have to be designed around it.

Narrative has: Meat Grinder, Ambush, Patrol, Blitz, Sabotage and Rescue
So maybe rehashing 3-5th ed missions.

Matched play supposedly has the mission from 6-7th edition missions with some tweaks.

The ork stuff looks pretty lack lustre. Basically a rehash of what has been with a few mitigating things to stop wounds and morale being total ###### ups like 7th....

-Meganobs 3 wds smile.gif
- Bigchoppa Str+2 AP-1 2damage, Choppa is like a chainsword +1 att.
Morale issues?
Warboss 3" can knock them into line? (d3) so hopefully that replaces the Morale fail (casualties) if the fail is huge. (eg 30 boyz gets assault by 6 Thunderwolves + IC for 18 wds.....)
Mob rule: use squad size for Ld for morale. ( No upper limit is given...) And they can even use the Ld of a nearby unit> no radius given..
Nob squads seem to give a 6+ save vs Failed morale casualties....?
Painboy 6+ save vs wounds
Mek kustom FF= 5++ (and both of these can be taken ).

Waaaarrgghh= charge even after Advancing (assumably the new Run move)
ere we go= reroll charges
Weirdboy power teleport an infantry unit to within 9" of the enemy. (no scattering in 8th ed)
Kans and Gorkanaughts supposedly better.... (one would hope so in the new T + saves + wds paradigm).
