I got both of these books a while ago, and have decided to do a new marine army but I want something different compared to the run of the mill armies not just in terms of models but background as well, so after the last couple of days going through the books I short listed the following chapters.
Mantis Warriors Executioners Minotaurs Carcharodons Star Phantoms Fire Hawks Marines Errant Fire Angels As this is going to be a modelling diary, I have decided to go with an extended detatchment from the second book minus the thunderhawks these I will replace with storm falcons what are your thoughts on this and what would you like to see in a modelling diary from a marine army. I was leaning to the following armies, minotaurs and carcharodons because of the secret nature and that there background is hidden in myth and and misdirection and gives you free reign in regards to the background and fluff for the army. I was going to order, mark 3 and 5 marine conversion sets and landraiders from FW for the army and mix and match parts with the normal marine kits and bezerker legs to get a unique feel for the army. -------------------- "As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. Cacharodons and Minotaurs also have sweet FW Special Characters.
Iirc, Fire Hawks became the Legion of the Damned after Badab due to bad fluff cliche. Either way, my bank account weeps sympathetic tears for your own as Im currently replacing stock standard with FW for my preHeresy Chapters -------------------- There are over 200,000 words in the English language. You can chose the ones you want and put them in any combination you see fit and it won't convince me to stop posting what I want. You see, *points at head* the circus is always dialed up to 11 and it never stops.

I've just started a Minotaurs Siege Assault force from Badab 2. They are great books with some really cool fluff etc.
I tossed up Star Phantoms and Mantis Warriors for a while too. Check it out. http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=130941 -------------------- Happy to play or play against IA any time (tournament or home)!! :)

If I decide to do minotaurs below is what I would use for my bases and conversions and order the FW characters and shoulder pads
Bases are going to be temple bases, from micro art studio. Spartan accessories & spartan heads I would be interested in doing carcharodons, but the lack of shoulder pads and and vehicle upgrade kits nerfed that idea the only redeeming feature is Tyberos as I really like the look of the model. -------------------- "As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. No linky worky Hey Biggy, Thanks for the link, just did not have time earlier to look at what you done with your army they look good. Is that the full breakdown, of where all your extra bits come from through your modeling diary and those scibor bases look good I think I will switch over to those cheers. -------------------- "As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. Yeah I think all the bits are accounted for. I actually meant your link didn't work. I wanted to have a look at what you were planning to use. I picked up a fair bit of FW stuff for the project too. -------------------- Happy to play or play against IA any time (tournament or home)!! :)

Any of them, they are all damn cool.
Personal preferance however is the Howling Gryphons in their night world camo that they kept for most of the campaign (Black and the Red/Yellow check on the shoulders, with vehicles it was on the doors) Between myself and 3 mates we have a Tyrant's Legion, Charcadons, Minotaurs, Executioners and Salamanders. Makes for some cool looking games :-) -------------------- "Though my guards may sleep and ships may rest at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire." Lugft Huron, Tyrant of Badab |
