A few more greenskins to add to the army....

The ork army is now pretty big. Though there are still a few units to add before I consider it done, I will be taking a 40k break for a bit and trying something different.

Agreed, I am looking forward to a Tau/Ork clash!

I am pretty keen to get into Dropzone Commander and really like the UCM minis. That being said, it was actually a load of Shaltari minis that I got my hands on first. The Shaltari are highly advanced but still somewhat "tribal" and painted in appropriate colours.

I recognize the Bomb Squigs smile.gif

How did you go about getting the Greatcoat bodies for the Orks (and their helmets)?

Very, very, nice brushwork

Hehehe . . . I had the idea for Borgward/Goliath "bomb squigs" few years ago and had resigned myself to scratch building them (always time consuming). When I saw these I jumped at the chance! Both the goliaths and the greatcoat bodies/arms are from Kromlech. They needed a bit of filling at the arm/shoulder joint, and occasionally elsewhere but overall are well done. Kromlech also do orc heads in appropriate helmets but the majority of this army was done more than ten years ago. I am not sure Kromlech was in existence back then, let alone doing WW2 Orks.

The helmets are from 1/35 German helmets from Jaguar models

http://www.jaguarmodels.com/135wac.htm

Although I have not looked for a a few years, they were the only place I could find that sold them.

Are you contemplating some great coated orks yourself?

@ Mono, I am getting there! I have some more Dropzone mins almost completed. Just a few more days and I will get some pics up.

Steve

The latest completed minis - three Shaltari Warspears and a medium gate. These have been all but done for the last week or two, just requiring successive gloss varnishes on the opal canopies. The bases will be done in a desert scheme once I get the paint colours sorted out. My plan is to make some terrain for this scale so will use the same colours and textures on these bases.

I ended up trading for what constituted the starter set plus a bit more. As a result I have one or two redundant minis and not quite my ideal mix. All things considered, this was a small price to pay - they are nice minis and it was a good trade for both of us. I am still keen to get the UCM starter set though!

painting looking good as always, what is the size comparison to other miniature ranges?

The aesthetic of is similar to eldar, I thought that the grav tanks would make good weapons batteries, the smaller flyers jetbikes and the walkers warwalkers. it would also mean that I had an army for another game

Hey mono, I completely missed seeing your post. The scale is 10mm. The walkers are about 50mm high. Whilst the Shaltari are definitely the space pixies of the DzC universe, I doubt they would fit into an eldar army due to the scale. Pretty much everything Shaltari has a canopy that would be hard to pass off as anything else. I realise that what I have just said is akin to a red flag to a bull. And I am happy for you to prove me wrong!

I enjoyed painting these minis. There is not much space on them for any freehand, so I had to resort to putting the patterns on the Gauss cannons.

Not much more DzC left to go.

Hi Steve

The canopies are not a problem, if I got the fliers I was planning on using them as wraith bikes, so no living rider and the canopy just becomes a really big gemstone

Greenskins just keep on popping up don't they? If you are looking to get rid of them then I will see if I can find them a suitable home.

These are the super cheap Zvezda kits. I reckon they are a good alternative to Battlefront. They are all snap fit (and largely well done too) though I did use glue in a few places. I have been assembling some of the Plastic Soldier Company tanks also (no pics yet). I like how the PSC Panzer III comes with parts for three variants. It would have been nice if Zvezda did the same with the Sdkfz 222 by including parts for the 221. That being said, it gave me the opportunity for a few quick conversions which I enjoy.
