Seconding the love for Steelheart's sword, that looks ace.
I can't wait to get my shadespire set to give it a crack myself!

Also loving those primaris marines, great colour scheme and that chapter master is brilliant. That pose exudes such a powerful presence, it's really well executed!

On the Stormcast? Yep, those are the bases they come with with.

Awesome work, as always!

The sword, marble hammer and gold cloak are all really well done!
Metallic coloured fabric is really hard, but you have nailed it here, any tips?

What colours went into the marble to get it looking so real?

And the sword, before I ask how you did it, was it a simple non airbrushed method, that a mere mortal (without an airbrush) could replicate, or a Magos god tier special?

The cloth is actually just my usual 'worn leather' method, although now you mention it, a little tweaking of the colours would work well as a metallic cloth.
Essentially, just paint the leather as normal, then use an old brush to stipple a variety of colours onto the leather unevenly followed by a couple of brown glazes to tie it all together. I generally use lighter yellow-brown colours, as well as dark reds or blue-blacks to add extra texture.

Also a pretty simple technique. I paint a couple thin layers of bone over black, then wash the whole piece brown. After that dries, I go back with more brown glazes and basically follow the blotchy marks left from the black showing through and wherever the first wash dried - these become the cracks in the marble. Once that are established I go back over the solid areas with an off white mix to neaten it all up and further define the veins.

No airbrush needed, just old fashioned brushes. I own an airbrush but am too lazy to use it. There's a good guide in a recent White Dwarf on painting eldar crystal swords, and it's basically the same technique here. Crystal is something I've always struggled with so I put some extra time into this one and worked on getting it right. It's not perfect, but it'll do. The method is basically work from a mid tone and build up the shades and highlights slowly, then use a lot of glazes to further smooth the transitions and restore colour saturation.

Too long between posting...

These days I'm only really playing DnD, so I've been painting different monsters and characters for my game. Here's my just finished model for the elf noble played by my resident murder hobo...

Pretty crude work, and slightly glossy even after two layers of matte varnish (gloss varnished first). But hopefully it'll survive at least one session before breaking.
