I just signed up for a tournament this Saturday, and came up with the list this arvo (mostly just what models I had available), and am just hoping to find out what people think.
This will be my first tournament, and my 3rd game of 8th edition, so should be interesting... Advice is welcome, I may be able to change it beforehand (probably not though) 2400pts Ogre Kingdoms army- Slaughtermaster with extra magic level, Lore of the Great Maw, Talisman of Preservation, Ruby Ring of Ruin, Sceptre of Stability and additional hand weapon- 372pts Bruiser with BSB, heavy armor, Enchanted Shield, Dragonbane Gem and Crown of Command- 179pts Firebelly with additional hand weapon, Dispel Scroll and Potion of Speed- 152pts 9 Ironguts with full command and Standard of Discipline- 432pts 9 Ogres with full command and ironfists- 318pts Sabretusk- 21pts Sabretusk- 21pts Sabretusk- 21pts 8 Leadbelchers with musician- 354pts 4 Mournfang Cavalry with full command, heavy armor, ironfists and Dragonhide Banner- 360pts Ironblaster- 170pts Total- 2400pts Thanks guys |

If your bruiser has the Dragon Helm instead of the Enchanted Shield and Dragon Bane Gem they will have to buy an ironfist but will get the parry save which i would call worth it.
Just a minor point. Other than that Id be splitting up those leadbelchers into two units. -------------------- My blog on philosophy and theology...

Apart from the aforementioned changes, seems a really solid tourney list. Ogres are a very good list and can make a lot of really good competitive builds. I would also split the leagbelchers because then you can shoot at different stuff

Having tried both the 2x4 and the 8 belchers I much prefered the 8. The 4 faces panic tests very quickly and is often wanting to be away from the general or bsb. Just my experiences.

If you shave some guys of the units I think you could probably afford another unit of 6 Bulls if you have them. Otherwise it looks like a solid list except you could give the BSB a save. The number of attacks ogres can put out means they are rarely on the wrong side of a combat result, At least that is my experience to date.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I dont have any more bulls, just more ironguts and leadbelchers. I was planning on the bsb going with the bulls, run 3 wide so he's in the second rank, so not super fussed about his save/ getting a parry. It wouldnt be bad to have but not essential i dont think. I was going for running the leadbelchers in a large unit purely so I have an extra fairly decent combat unit, but i may consider splitting. With a big unit though I feel like i could add a character and theyd be quit a significant threat. Plus 4 leadbelchers may be able to cause panic checks on small units, but 8 should be able to really incapacitate them alot of the time. Ill just have to be careful of MSU armies, where 8 could be overkill sometimes |

if you're going to run the BSB in the second rank, then why bother with any magic items and go for a magic standard instead?

Yeah I considered it but the crown of command is just invaluable in the ogre unit, makes it a great anvil. I could probably drop the enchanted shield and dragonbane gem, but they may be useful against flaming attack enemies/if i feel the need to take a challenge with him.
Tournament was today, and I came second (out of 10, i think), after some ridiculous luck in the last game saw the opponents dark elf on dragon get shot down by 6 leadbelchers despite a 1+ save and inverted ward save, the dragon fail its monster reaction test, becoming frenzied. Then it failed the charge it was forced to do, rolling triple 1 for distance thereby exposing its flank to my ironguts.... So yeah, cant claim much more than dumb luck for that. Anyway from those games I ended up not using the ruby ring even once, so definately dropping that. The other ogre spells are just too useful, I never really felt much of a need for an extra first level fireball. The leadbelchers generally did well in the larger unit, except in the first game where a single tuskgor chariot charged, broke and ran them down... Everything else performed pretty much as expected, although I really have to remember to reroll those 1s on the mournfang for the dragonhide banner, I must have forgotten 3-4 times |

You could allso split the lead belchers into 3 and 5. This would require three ogres to be killed before the whole lot panics (two on the five man unit and one for the three man unit).
