I was always under the impression that there was never a Valhallan plasma gunner model made until JimRoss79 mentioned that he had some in his collection. He was kind enough to take a picture and I thought I'd post them up here:

It's definately based on the grenade launcher model but I have still never seen it before. Is it an actual model that made production or is it a conversion that someone did and then cast up? The hand that would normally be holding the gun looks a little akward but GW have been know to do stuff like that anyway.

I have never seen that figure before, and I was active all through the metal guard period. The quality of the slotta tab makes me think it is a casting of a conversion, or a GW prototype.

If you look at the imp guard plasma guns of that era like the catachan one they are quite thin compared with the fatter marine ones (which this one seems to be).

I think theraptor is correct, i thinkit is a cast of a conversion, esp the tag of the top pic, IIRC in '94 all of their bases were quite clear with a descriptor 'valhallan' 'catachan' etc, the top seems pretty bare of the descriptor.

It would be interesting to see a top down view to check the alignment of the weapon to the stock.

the plasma gun looks identical to the necromunda escher one, the hand socket above the left hand gives it away

That's a top model.
I have always had a soft spot for the old Valhallans but that is the coolest mini i've ever seen for them.

1) It's based on the flamer, not the grenade launcher (though they are the same model with different heads)

2) Definetly not a GW official release, there newver was a plasma gunner. It looks like a conversions someone has cast up. A giveaway is the area where the tubes connect to the canister, just above and to the right of it. The detail has been smeared out as if by the liberal application of greenstuff.

Since this is a cast, it's counterfeit, and therefore illegal.

Well i guess that solves the mystery, can't help but feel a bit like the scooby gang but without the bus.

As a bit of background this guy turned up in a big bulk lot of rough painted figured from the states, the fig in the pic is what was under the aweful harlequin style colour. He's pretty old (they had seen a lot of service) so he must have been done as a cast (if thats the case) some time ago.

So i guess no one has one more to sell me after all oh well...... to the converting machine! i have a few spare flamers.

Thanks all and particularly blue for posting this pic for my incompetent self

Jim

Yeap Assault guardsmen is correct. Just check my IG collectors guide, valhallan plasma gunner was never released. The plasma gun is from the escher plasma gunner. Not a bad casting job at all.

That particular flamer is quite handy for conversions, since he's holding his weapon so far forward. It's possible to do a weapon swap quite easy; the plasma gun is the only thing missing from the valhallan arsenal.
