As it says in the topic: what worked, what didn't work and what else would you like to see from the event in future?

Milk the cows has to go.. I'd assume it will given new missions in sixth. If you do use it again, all you have to do is tweak it a little ie., score on your opponents turn instead of yours. Scoring on yor turn gives too big an advantage to whoever goes first (especially if, like me, they have a fairly quick army). Crash land mission - I'd suggest whoever has more points gets minor win and then scale up to major (brings the win bracketing in line with the kill points mission). It was a little rough having the only troops in the zone only to score a draw (good game had though). Not gripes, just suggestions. -------------------- Hello, my name is Glenn Blair. Overall, a very awesome tournament once again.
Only problem I'm having is with the painting scores. Having opposing players judge painting wasn't a good idea in my opinion. Checking the overall scores and seeing that a friend of mine, whose army I know wasn't finished properly, get a higher paint score than mine doesn't seem right. And the fact that one opponent only scored a 3 for my painting when my entire army had been drybrushed/washed also seems a bit stupid. Now I don't want this to come across as whining (bit too late probably), but I think the paint scoring from last year was a much better idea. Still happy with finishing 11th and placing higher than all the other emerald guys. We'll be back again next year for sure. Oh yeah, and agree with Wes, milk the cows has to go. |

I enjoyed it |

Marking your own painting I thought wasn't that good, got a few of those boxes wrong (was talking to someone at the time, distracted) and the judges marked me the same, so apparently I didn't use any advanced techniques on my army.
Wouldn't have affected my placing so don't particularly care, but humility doesn't help you when you mark yourself. Still had a great time and north tournie's are some of the best on. -------------------- I am amazing, la la la

Great event as usual, disorganised a bit at the end there as I took over the talking as Wonna's voice had given up the ghost.
As for painting: There are 2 components to the painting that were different to last year: 1. Peer Paint I can take credit for the peer paint scoring from Cent - it simply stops players hiding the unpainted Rhino when you display your army. You and I both know it happens, and it pisses me right off. 2. Mark your own paint This is just so that the TO's can see what you say you have done, as you know your painting better than they do. It also means there's no arguments about squad markings and how they are done, etc etc. I personally think they both worked and were effective, and based on the scoring presented in the player pack, an organised soft score whore (like me) can make their judged painting tick all the boxes, within reason. -------------------- CENTURION

I don't like peer marked painting that much. In fact i would prefer any type of peer marked scores be restricted to sports only.
All said though i enjoyed the tourney and thought the missions were fine. Its only the second rocky tourney i have been to but have enjoyed both, thought they were both well run and have a lot of respect for the way you fellas run events. A lot of other TO,s should be looking to what you do and how you both encourage players and create a fun environment. big thanks again to all involved with running cowcon, and especially wonna for giving up the opportunity to play so that we could. -------------------- i promise to wear a kilt to a tourney if people stop calling me Welsh, Irish or English.

Second that - thanks Wonna and Co for a great tournie and prize support. Was a very enjoyable weekend and definatly will be back next year.
Milk the Cows in it's current iteration i am not really a fan of, it does heavily favour whoever goes first. And the peer based painting is susceptible to "tick and flick" - i'd rather leave it in the hands of either a formula or non playing judges. -------------------- "We are the Necrontyr. We are Legion. We claim dominion of this world. Surrender and die."
"The objective of the game is to win. The aim of playing the game is to have fun. Don't confuse the two." |

Perhaps just change the peer paint scoring to a simple "Were all models painted?" It still catches the hidden model issue but gives less opportunity for incorrect scoring.
Personal paint scoring was good but people didn't really understand what to do I think. More of a teething issue than anything else. I want to see it stay as it does make paint scoring easier. Only gripe was the lack of Pig Pen tally and enforcement of the dangerous terrain rules for it. Just because most gamers avoid having dangerous terrain on tables, doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist, even in tournaments. Otherwise great event guys, and you know that I will continue to come back each year. -------------------- |

Silly pigpen rule was always silly Tom - I played that table, and didnt bother, giant dangerous terrain area in the middle of the table can get lost I find it kind of odd though when ruins are supposed to dangerous also, and people ignore that one too. In fact the only time I've seen dangerous terrain enforced was for wrecks. People should learn to embrace some of the rules more. Also, dangerous terrain isn't bad, it just changes the way that you might use the terrain. I've used that pig pen before to dissuade people from charging my units. Had they ballsed up they would have beaten me, but the dangerous terrain put them off. -------------------- |
