JD, impressive work. The best thing I take away from that is the filters; never seen that before but the comparision shot you put up is perfect.

I've just been thinking about how far AFV modelling has come in recent decades - I found a torrent containing the old "Verlinden way" books and a few of Shep Paine's old books from the early 80's and contrasting them with the MIG productions books/DVD's from recent years. Part of it is that the quality of kits is way better now thanks to the ubiquity of resin and etched brass after-market parts, and in particular much more lifelike and natural figure sculpts. But the technique has been pushed so far and the market has so much more in terms of innovative products to support painters and make their lives easier.

I remember when I first saw this stuff in the late 80's I was dumbfounded. Nowadays it certainly looks a bit dated, although some of that is the higher quality of digital photography and printing.

Can I ask what the textured paint you used for the mud was? That mud around the tracks is fantastic.

the texture paint is done in 2 parts. The first is just plain old Valejo "dark earth" - comes in a great big pot for around $20, great stuff. The second layer, the "wet" bit is plaster of paris, black pigment, varnish and water.
