in the new lores of the rule book most of the round template spell state that put the round template somewhere within 30inch for example then roll D6 and scatter....
does this mean that everyone is hit at the original position PLUS anything in its D6 path? cheers |

Yep, the power whorls are a simple spell that works like a tornado..
If it touches you or passes over you, then you get hit.. Eugenic -------------------- |

Eugenic ok so just to clarify.... you pick a point for the template it hits everything it touches,.... then you roll the d6 random direction and the template moves hitting everything in its path and everything at its final destination??? (because i first thought you do all that... but the template just hits stuff at its final destination) This post has been edited by Gurtogg Bloodboil: Jul 14 2010, 08:28 PM |

I know a fun game! It's called "lets make rules up as we go along and pretend they're fact"!!
Looking at pit of shades as an example.. place the template, it then scatters D6... that's where the effect takes place by my reading anyways. Purple sun: "any model touched" not "passed over" Can we start giving out page refs for all these interpretations? Mouse -------------------- |

Page 9 - basic principles: Templates scatter, then are placed, and that's where the effect takes place.. (that's me paraphrasing)

Oh, the thing with spells like Purple Sun is that the template "moves", it doesn't scatter. So for example Pit of Shades, where the template lands is where the effect takes place. Purple Sun, it hits everything in the path as the template itself moves, not scatters.

You place the template's edge in contact with the caster then it moves. Read harder.

I said in another thread - some of these questions are really, really silly.
The rules are clearer than ever - and the people asking know how the mechanics of the game works. Come on fellas. You all know how to scatter a template, and read a spell. Simon - your efforts to disturb the public are really crossing that invisible line between funny and concerning... That is a shocker of a signature. -------------------- The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But its still on the list.

If people read carefully both spell descriptions you will notice a few words at the beginning of each one.
Pit of Shades is a direct damage spell. The Purple Sun is a magical vortex that uses the small round template. Taking note of the above the rules for both categories of spells are very clear on page 31 and when combined with the individual spell descriptions there seems little room for interpretation. If this sounds arrogant i honestly don't mean to be. I myself wondered about Pit of Shades when i first read this thread, which then prompted me go back and reread the BRB. That's really the only advice i can give to other people is take your time and read and reread sections cause it really does seem like GW have for the most part taken there time to spell things out pretty clearly this time around.
