The only one I haven't tried yet is a light mech. I've tried the atlas, dragon, awesome and hunchback as far as I can recall.

Played for a while. Tried the dragon, atlas, hunch, awesome, commando and catapult. Game just didn't keep me enthralled as much as I had hoped it would. Seemed to frenzied and FPS. Not the slow methodical tactical game I hoped for.

I found that depended a lot on the quality of the team I was on. When you're in a good team, with a good balance of mechs working together, it's a lot more mechwarriory.

So I have been a battle tech fan for years, own most of the video games and many books.
Heard about this game and got really excited, but wanted to hold off till it was more developed.

After reading some of these posts I thought I would check it out, so went to the website and clicked on the first video I came to to check out some gameplay, got a battle report from some team match in the snow from a Jenner cocit pov.

To say I am dissociated is an understatement, to say I am horrified at how bad it looks is closer.

Jerky fps that feels like a human running, not 35 tons of battle engine.

I accept the poor graphics quality and glitches, I have worked in game dev for over a decade, but this just looks like arse, I felt like I was watching a game from ten years ago.

Frankly I would have been happy with a model tweak on the WoT engine

Can't express how disappointed I am in how this is looking.

Other than being unable to stop suddenly, strafe, fire indiscrimanently due to heat and a whole lot of other stuff it JUST like an FPS. I was just commenting the other day about how much like a CoD deathmatch it was when 100 tonnes of Atlas knocked my Jenner flat on it's butt to stop me fleeing while I was target locking an enemy catapult for friendly artillery.

After a few months absence from the game (I wasn't enjoying it, and I was painting instead of gaming) I gave it a go today and found it to be much improved. Played for an hour or so, without any problems, lag seemed not to be an issue anymore and I could actually run it at my monitors native 1920x1080 which I couldn't do previously.

Anyway, just in case anyone else, like me, has put the game aside, or interested in joining in fresh for the open beta, it is a good time as it is much much closer to a finished product.

I was getting really burnt out on this (which is annoying considering how long I've waited), I fell in with a good unit which saved it for me. Joined up with a Davion Brigade, the Robinson Rangers (http://1st-rangers.com).

Really good guys, all across the world. Currently we have a full Australian Battalion and are expanding to fill out a second. If you want to drink tea and bring civilisation to the fascist heathens then check us out.

Or join another unit and see us on the field biggrin.gif

Been playing since early clossed beta, been enjoying the updates as they come am part of armd, a primarily australian/new zealand group with over 300 members. www.armd.net.au for our site...

Anyway some good changes keep on coming through and it's a different game running in a team than solo, group strategies are a big peice of the game and I can't wait for the new game types.

Trial Mechs are horrid
The Mechs which have one of each weapon are just impossible to play. The best I can come up with is to group as many of them together and use them all at whatever is the minimal range. Only the current Catapult is reasonable, (useless jumpjets and not enough heat sinks)

Is this like the old mechwarrior "simulators" that I enjoyed so much?
I know it does not really have a story. I always hated the arena idea.

If this is COD for mechs I will probably not enjoy it.

Why dose an engine upgrade cost more than the entire mech ?

Re installed, it's ok. Had shocking losses.
Wish the mechs didn't seem like they float. They need to take a page out of WOT book in regards to physics.

Gotta find a clan

ARMD is pretty good. Rarely lose a match when Ive played with those guys. Plus my best mate is now a Master Sergeant/Squad Leader.

http://armd.net.au/modules.php?name=Forums

ECM has changed the game though. Fast lights are hard to get a bead on or a lock for that matter...

Lots of changes in upcoming patch on the 21st, adds the Blackjack, a Hero Stalker with ballistics hardpoints and a new map.

The most important change is that Beagle Active Probe now nullifies ECM within 150m. This means that the dreaded ECM Raven 3L will no longer be the Hunter-Killer king, expect to see some very nasty Jenners running around. The game is still in open beta but we should finally see the metagame elements start to arrive in the next few months. Worth a look.

I'm now with a different unit, Deaths Hand Brigade, the non-canon equivalent of the Gray Death Legion. Experienced group of fellows, always looking for new Oceanic timezone Mechwarriors. Here's our latest recruitment video:

Meh. Since the State Rewind fix I've found that I'm not as troubled by ECM as I used to be. Now I can shoot that frikkin' Raven and actually damage it rather than it being protected by a ruddy lag shield because I have a 300ms+ ping. I've been seeing far fewer Ravens around the traps since then. And more Jenners.

Still, having BAP counter ECM will be nice.
