This is the time of year that I like to set myself gaming goals. This year my gaming goals for 2015 are:
  1. Play at least 10 games of Flames of War. Also play at least one game of Napoleonics and one game of Ancients.
  2. Finish painting my DAK (Deutsches Afrikakorps) army
  3. Run two or three local Flames of War events. The first is already planned, Gosford Flames (LW). I hope to follow this up with a mid-war event later this year.
So what gaming goals have other players set for themselves?

Regards

Mark C

I've got a large platoon of Fallschirmjagerr on my painting shelf. If I can find the time to finish them then I want to paint-up the rest of my Panther tanks and touch-up the other ones to match.

This year I'm aiming to play alot more games under tournament conditions to generally speed up my play.

Painting wise it's a bit complex:
* I'm currently painting up some Stugs for Sunday!
* However this is a distraction from building my MW 8th Army British Armour project. I'm 3/4s thru painting the crusaders (12 with 6 to go) and then will start on the supporting infantry and 25 pdrs. Hopefully I can take these to Tumult this year.
* Then I'll be back to late late war with Tiger IIs to paint and supporting infantry.

--------------------
Playing:
(FoW) Africa Korps Panzer Kompanie (MW): 3600+ pts
(FoW) 8th Army British Armour (MW): 3200+ pts
(FoW) German Panzer Kompanie (LW): 3000+ pts
(Sword & Spear) Arabs, Byzantines, Ottoman Turks, Medieval Hungarians, Samurai, Later Crusader

I've received separate PM's from Conrad "Conman" Carlton (who played at Gosford Flames) and James "Kent Fury" about the May Flames of War tournament in Newcastle.

QUOTE(Conman @ Jan 5 2015, 10:53 AM) *

Flames of War Tourney
When: May 23-24th

Where: Gallipoli Legion Club Hamilton

What: Flames of War: Late War

Points: 1750

Players: 20-30

Format: 3 games day one. 2 games day 2. Special big bash Saturday night. 1st round Grudge matches 2nd and every other round Swiss system.
Prizes: Best Sports, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Best painted, Best Club, best table.

Army Lists can be sent to me at conradcarlton@hotmail.com remember no characters or NGFS ... at the moment we are looking at copying what Ken had running at Cancon with a Red and Blue list option (not compulsory) with the tweak of the alternate list has to be the same type as your primary (Tank, Mech or Inf)

break down of scenarios will be following soon...ish
Cost: $30
Why would I come?
Newcastle Legions knows how to organise a great event. The club has air conditioning, fully licenced and if we get enough players the bistro will be open for us.

So you get to drink beer, roll some dice and have a laugh. Newcastle Legions puts the fun in war games and we truly believe that sportsmanship is the most important factor in all our games.

For details and list of players attending check out AU BiV FoW 23-24th May Newcastle 1750 LW.

I must admit to liking the option of taking both an allies and axis list so as to avoid "blue on blue" games.

Regards

As well as BiV FoW towards the end of May, I've also just noticed that Nigel Slater is running a Flames event at HawkCon in Richmond on 9th/10th May.

EDIT: HawkCon has been cancelled as not enough numbers across the range of events being held.

Inter-Club Challenge

I see from http://www.panzerangriff.org.au/inter-club-challenge that the Inter-Club Challenge is being held at Parramatta on Sunday 3rd May. It's three rounds, and your team's best six players results are tallied and compared to the best six player tallies from the other teams. The team with the highest result is awarded the Inter-Club Shield. The team can be any group of FOW players, their is no formality as to what a team is.

I see that in the past the Northern Knights have fielded a team. We have a history of inter-club events with them (anyone recall the Blitzkrieg Commander's Club Challenge).

EDIT: following was in NSW Inter-Club Challenge
QUOTE(The Dark Angel @ Apr 6 2015, 07:50 PM) *

It's the Saturday 2nd May 2015 at The Games Cube Parramatta, Level 2, 79 – 81 Phillip St, Parramatta, 2150.

Somehow the wrong date is on the Panzer Angriff Club site.

First three years have been: Western Warriors Blacktown/Parramatta, Panzer Angriff (Penrith), Hall of Heroes (Campbelltown) and Northern Knights (Thornleigh). Last year we lost the Northern Knights but gained the Northern Sydney Storm Troopers from the Cherrybrook/Hornsyb area.

It has only ran since 2011 (western warriors have won it every year so far).

So far we have Western Warriors, Hall of Heroes, Panzer Angriff and Sydney Stormtroopers agian, hopefully we can get some more clubs too.

Mark C

In the last couple of days I have found out that I'm not being sent away for work in May so I am hoping to go to this event in Newcastle. Only thing is that I strongly prefer 1 day events (to allow family time).

If I play the Saturday is anyone interested in taking my spot on the Sunday?

Sydney Mid War Grand Tournament
6th - 7th June, 2015
Campbelltown Hall of Heroes Store, 60 Queen Street Campbelltown
1625pts Flames of War Mid War

Interesting to see them running a mid war event on the D-Day weekend. Unfortunately its a bit soon after BiV FoW for me, and Campbelltown is that bit further.

Check out http://www.thehallofheroes.com.au/event_de...?event_code=172 for details.

MOAB
3rd - 5th October, 2015
Sylvania Heights Youth and Community Club, Box Road Sylvania Heights
1650pts Flames of War Late War
8 games

The players pack for MOAB is available http://www.southernbattlegamers.org/moabsi...AB_2015_FoW.pdf

QUOTE

All missions will be drawn each round (no repeat missions)

09:00 Defensive
12:15 Mobile Battle
15:00 Fair Fight

08:30 Defensive
11:45 Mobile Battle
14:30 Fair Fight

08:30 Defensive
11:45 Mobile Battle

Each round is 2:30 hours.

Player matching is pure Swiss Chess on win/draw/loss. Country/Alliance will play no part.

Final scoring is 80% Missions, 10% painting and 10% sports (allocated after final round).

Note:
The platoon win/loss is used as a tie breaker at the end of the Tournament so winning 6-1 or 4-3 is the same for player matchup, but kicks in for final placing WITHIN your win/loss bracket.

I like the points level and the fact that the scoring is on wins with BF scoring points used as a tie breaker. The 8 game format allows an army that wins 4-3 to finish ahead of an army that wins 5 games 6-1 but then has 3 losses.

We have been playing at 1550 points in recent tournaments. This points limit may come down however to 1390 points, in line with the official North American points levels for 2015.
