Since I'm planning on playing some Mordheim, my free time in the last few weeks has been taken up with foamcore and cardboard as I work on making a table's worth of terrain from scratch. I'm pretty out of practice, so these first few buildings are fairly simple and intact, and definitely WIP. Later I'll make some that are more ruined.
Comments and criticism is more than welcome ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking This post has been edited by Magos_Kasen: Oct 6 2010, 03:17 PM -------------------- Most Left-wing member of WAU

Daaayum, it looks so simple (in my view) but results are fantastic. You said you only used foamcore and cardboard, it looks like you have balsa wood or paddle pop sticks or something, what is it? e.g. window frames
QUOTE Wow dude, would you do commission work? I would totally let you commission me to attempt it. $500/hr. Kidding, i'm on holidays in a week we could have a day of terrain making. Hey Magos_Kasen have you heard of the new mantic zombies? they would TOTALLY suit your terrain, stick the torsos coming out of walls and floors and the ground. Mantic zombies and matic ghouls for kit bashing, its sick. -------------------- OT PREMIUM Lord of House Thrace Consistently sounding like an idiot isn't good trolling: its consistently sounding like an idiot. Thanks for the compliments everyone
@FeeT_FooD - I hadn't really thought about it. If I have the time though I'd be happy to I guess. I enjoy the work, so as long as you were happy to pay for the materials and a little bit for the time, I guess so. Daaayum, it looks so simple (in my view) but results are fantastic. You said you only used foamcore and cardboard, it looks like you have balsa wood or paddle pop sticks or something, what is it? e.g. window frames Hey Magos_Kasen have you heard of the new mantic zombies? they would TOTALLY suit your terrain, stick the torsos coming out of walls and floors and the ground. Mantic zombies and matic ghouls for kit bashing, its sick. Yes, I've used balsa wood and paddlepop sticks for the planking. I didn't mean to make it sound like I'd only used cardboard and foamcore. I'm planning of getting a heap of the mantic zombies at some stage. Partly for use in undead warbands, partly for use as generic monsters for our warbands to occasionally fight (survival style scenarios, where one or two warbands have to work together to fight hordes of zombies), and partly for use in terrain. One idea I have is for a walkway/bridge between two building with a dozen corpses hanging from it. -------------------- Most Left-wing member of WAU

That sounds like a great idea You could have like a central square style terrain piece with a gibbet and stocks and other devices in the middle. You could even model a ghoul stuck in the stocks -------------------- 'I've never seen a bloke so happy to have his units destroyed' - said of me at Inferno

Niiiice. They are super cool minis. A simple conversion for a 'zombie bursting through wall' is to have an entire window section/board magnetised between normal and the zombie burster.
I know virtually nothing about the game but random events happening like zombies bursting out sounds pretty cool and you can do this with magnetised boards are various locations. Simple is good, those materials are super cheap with the exception of balsa wood depending on where you get it. I'll be buying materials today to pool into a giant terrain making vat. Also try matchsticks. I stole a bunch off my lecturer once for something i never did. Handy things they are. -------------------- OT PREMIUM Lord of House Thrace Consistently sounding like an idiot isn't good trolling: its consistently sounding like an idiot. I like it!
Those shingles would have been hell to complete, but brings the pieces out nicely. I've also always been a fan of the scored foam board approach for Mordheim terrain Very cool! |

Yes, but IF Chorrol had been wrecked that is what it'd look like. Its the same aesthetic as Chorrol.

What tool and method did you use to create or draw the brick texture onto the foamcore?

@comrade - That's a great idea, now I'm going to check Chorrol out for any particularly cool buildings...
What tool and method did you use to create or draw the brick texture onto the foamcore? I removed one of the card backing layers to expose the foam, and then drew the pattern with a soft pencil or a ballpoint pen. -------------------- Most Left-wing member of WAU

I am really liking what I see. I can not wait to see these lovely buildings painted. I do have a couple of questions.
Q1. Are you going to cover the exposed foam before you paint it? Something like a thin layer of plaster, or are you just going to paint straight on the foam? Q2. Where do you get your inspriation for the building shapes? All I seem to come up with is rectangular towers. Q3. Do you have a scale (ie size of floors, doors etc) or do you just start building, and let the "flow" determine the buildings shape and size? Thanks - Keep up the great work. -------------------- ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-
